I do not like the level cap

Level cap is absurd. Players are capped at a low level while npcs are many levels higher than us all the way up to 260. The level cap wouldn’t be a problem if the npcs levels are capped as well but they aren’t. Vetex is expecting us players to fight bosses rather they’re found out in the open world or in main quests when the bosses levels are lightyears higher than us!

And the reason behind the level cap is absurd too. “So players don’t out level bosses!” I don’t want to out level Calvus! I want to be equally as strong as him! After all it’s been stated in the game by other characters that were extremely strong, but in gameplay we are the personal punching bags to most of the bosses and high level wanted npcs! The level cap wouldn’t get so much ire if the npcs are capped too! But they’re not! Fighting an npc that easily demolishes your health and forces you into a cycle of fight, die, respawn, repeat, it’s not challenging. It’s just annoying…

Critique extension: After fighting Calvus, I realized that Calvus while a fierce boss is more easy to combat than some of the miniboss npcs particularly in the Nimbus Sea. (ex. Wanted criminals who are level 200-260 and level 200-260 pirates/assassin captains). They’re ferocity in combat with players is above that of King Calvus and Maria, two of whom are major bosses in the story. But npcs on wanted boards and on pirate ships, who contribute nothing to the overall story and again who are mini bosses, with less health than Calvus and Maria by at least 2k health are more dangerous than them. Their able to perform attacks faster and hit harder than Calvus. The mini bosses wouldn’t be that much of an issue if they operate on the same principal as Calvus, tough but manageable, but what would really make things better in the first place is if the player level cap is somewhere higher than 140.

It doesn’t have to be 260 of course, because some of the gear worn by players would be even stronger because of such a high level causing the player to be even stronger than the level 260 enemy, if the desire is for the level 260 npc to still be a strong combatant. But player levels should at least be high enough to allow players to go toe to toe with them. Because as it stands most Nimbus Sea mini bosses more act like variants of storyline bosses but much MORE fierce, and the only players able to go up against them are those with meta builds and magics.

Edit 1: “Skill issue?” Really? Okay, then will someone tell me how to defeat some of the higher level npcs then? Also I admit I’m not that skilled at combat. I more prefer to fight my foes on equal grounds. But even if I was skilled, that doesn’t mean it wouldn’t be annoying for me or any other fellow players.

Edit 2: Well this is awkward for my first post. I was hoping things would be more peaceful, but most of the counterarguments toward my argument seem hostile rather than friendly. I like AO, but I do not agree with the level cap. I don’t see what’s wrong with not liking it. I admit, my post doesn’t all sound too friendly either and I apologize for that. I just want what’s best for this game just like everyone else. What’s wrong with that?

Edit 3: I was not expecting so much activity. Heck even Vetex is here! O_O

Personally, I think it’s just a skill issue.
I play savant with every armor stat. If you with your mage build with 150 power and 300 attack speed with 1500 defense can’t beat a level 300-500 npc but I can, that is your own fault.

As crazy as this may sound

You kind of have a skill issue

I know this is probably just bait but dude, I’m a juggernaut and I’m capable of beating (some) npcs who are above the cap

How is my stance on the level cap “bait”? I don’t like it, I would be lying if I said I did.

So either you’re really really bad, or you’ve simply never fought an NPC your level

I have fought npcs my level. I’m talking about storyline bossess later in the game and some of the npcs in the Nimbus Sea. Also I’m not really good at combat, but I’m not bad either. I don’t see why most of the feedback I’ve gotten seems or feels like they’re trying to invalidate my stance based off my combat skill in the game.

who are we talking about specifically then ?

Calvus, Maria, and wanted level 160-200 npcs in the Nimbus Sea. Players unless they are better skilled, fast, or isn’t instantly demoralized by how brutal and strong the npcs they are fighting are. They’re going to have a bad time.

Thanks Flare. That’s a cool gear build. One small issue though, it’s sunken gear, hard to find and I bet people who do have it aren’t going to be willing to give it away. But thank you though. I’ll use it as a reference.

I beat strong NPCs + bosses, highest was like level 400 wit just potions without the use of sunkens

high level NPCs/bosses are really easy to beat through trial and error, players simply just don’t take control of bosses/npcs super-charges as well (considering you can get 1 - 2 free hits and then ou can just focus on defense) PLUS npcs in the full release update are getting their AI “re-worked” in a way so that they aren’t parrying during casting or having aimbot on all their moves

Idk how any other player fights npcs, im just guessing they spam projectiles without any real timing considering with all my fights I just hit them once and I fall down/hold block and 80% of the time the NPC’s misses their shots or gets blocked

though with what others r saying on top of this comment, sadly gotta say tis is skill issue

All of these are piss easy to defeat

This is not bloxfruits and things are supposed to be challenging. You are not just supposed to overlevel a lot and then stat check the bosses. No. You’re supposed to learn them, adapt to them, and overcome them and take pride in your achievement.

I swear these are the types of people to call pilgrammed hard

this why I’m overly bragging about my achievement of killing calvus with 400 ping, 20 fps, no armour, second magic only (mage), normal projectiles only challenge whenever somebody says calvus is hard guh

this what great training and practice gets you in arcane odyssey yep…

Fyi, This is “hard” seen from the perspective of a first-timer

This shit is bait lmfao

Ah yes I want to play like God without ANY difficulty. Will SURELY drive player retention! You’re saying this like the cap will be level 140 for ETERNITY HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

ah yes i would like to see funny damage number go up completely ignoring the fact new locations, features, and attacks are reserved for higher levels, vetex is the WORST game dev lmao fuck him

You have the decency to admit you’re not good at the combat, then I suppose you should’ve had the decency to realize this post is pointless and merely just a doompost text wall. If you say you like to “outpower my foes” aka, completely trivializing every fight, then this game is not for you, period.

players when they fight this mf for the first time
