Improved Modifiers

Alright, so I’ve been reading some suggestions about modifiers, and I have an idea.

So, modifiers. Modifiers are great, but they require incredible amounts of grinding to get one item that you want modified. They require you to find the correct island on a treasure chart, and then hope and pray that you get the item you want - that one glorious item out of the hundreds in game.

You shouldn’t have to grind for days to get a modifier on a single item you want.

So here’s my suggestion:

Make it so that you can take around 5 already modified items, and receive one essentia for those five. You would be able to put this essentia on anything you wanted to.

For example:

You put in five items with the “Crystalline” modifier on them. In return, you get one Crystalline Essentia. (Essentias would work exactly the same as Atlantean Essence.)

Obviously, there would need to be some balances to this:

  1. Any item can only have one modifier to it. We don’t want a Atlantean Crystalline Archaic Superheated Sunken Warrior Armor.
  2. If an item already has a modifier, and you try to apply a new one, that previous modifier world be deleted.
  3. Sunken items and boss drops would not be able to have modifiers applied to them. Modifiers would only be able to be applied to items you can get from chests. If you tried to apply a modifier to a sunken item or boss drop, a pop up would appear saying something asking the lines of, “This item is too heavily magically influenced for this modifier to be applied”. (This is because being able to modify sunken items or boss drops could quickly become overpowered and unbalanced)
  4. (I know this stuff is obvious, but I have to say it to clear up any possible misunderstandings)

Now, where would you do all this you may ask?

I think there should be a feature with a blacksmith (or maybe an enchanter) where you can click on a button, similar to upgrading items with a blacksmith, and be taken to a screen.

Once on the screen, you will see 5 empty squares. You can fill each of these squares with a modified item (same modifier, obviously) and then press “Submit”.

You will then be given the Essentia for that modifier.

I think that this should be considered as an option for reworking modifiers, and that it would definitely improve the quality of life (meaning you aren’t dying trying to get a gilded range amulet). That’s all I’ve got, and thanks for reading this block of text!

sorry, putting gilded on sunken armour or boss gear isn’t balanced. The problem with making a modifier essence is that modifiers (excluding atlantean) have zero drawbacks, and making them have an arbitrary limitation of “only items found in chests” just doesn’t feel great or intuitive.

Boss drops or Sunken items could possibly be excluded. However, you can already put Atlantean on them, so…

read my edit, sorry. Atlantean is applicable because it has a clear downside.

Modifiers as a system were created such that the weaker items in chests would be capable of being somewhat viable compared to said high-tier items like sunken armour.

Fair point. I get what you mean, this suggestion is mainly pointed towards non boss drops or sunken items, mainly to minimize the optimal gear grind. However, I understand what you’re getting at, so Sunken and boss drops would probably need to be excluded from this. The item would have to be obtainable from a chest for a Essentia to be applied. (Although I get this could be a little weird. Maybe have sunken and boss drops say something like “This item is too heavily magically influenced to apply this modifier”)?

Yeah, the more I think about it, you raise a good point. I’ll edit my suggestion.

hell yeah

This is a neat suggestion would like to add one more thing though, maybe this system could be added as part of one of the player profession passives (maybe jewelcrafting)

I considered this, but then I decided that it probably shouldn’t be locked behind additional grinding. However, good idea!

everybody keeps suggesting the same damn thing. no. stop suggesting this.
