Guys, what I meant by pirate game is that AO’s world feels special because it’s got all these different factions sailing about and fighting each other. And its cool that players can be a type of obstacle as well.
Just like players can co-operate on DS runs, boss fights, or just fish together, its also cool that players can fight each other whenever they so choose. Without this being the case, a bunch of negative rep and positive rep players fishing together wouldnt be such a cool moment as it is now.
Im sorry that little Timmy has to die once every blue moon to achieve this (despite the fact that 99% of players will leave you alone if you dont have high bounty), but thats just what it is.
Npc’s are just not a threat whatsoever, you can always avoid them easily, the only threat that keeps the game from being a boring safe pve shlog is that 1% chance that a player can stand in your way. Im sorry you lost those 5 sealed chests.

Probably to give one side of many future arguments something to back up their point
I am suprised so many mention that people say its a pirate game to steal from one another when in my eyes it be a lot more simple:
There be lots of them ships and we be using them cannons and they be loot to be plundered from them sailin’ ships then it be a pirate game ARRR 
I dont think its a PvP thing at all there are dozen of literal pirate ships on the seas at all times.
Being honest some of the game feels directly inspired from black flag and sea of thieves even if you also got magic RPG as well.

I don’t really see how it could be argued it’s not. We plunder ships (albeit typically pirate ships unless if you’re negative renown), we sail all over the place, commit literal regicide.
Are we the good guys? Yeah. Does that mean we’re not pirates? Not at all.
“ohhhh but, but, but, I’m a marine!!!” yeah so you’re anti-pirate. still a pirate game cause you’re fighting against pirates. and you still committed regicide.
so yeah, short answer: duh.
long answer: if you SOMEHOW don’t see yourself as Luffy, there’s something wrong. You CANNOT gather a wacky crew from all over the Bronze Sea, set sail, commit regicide, visit a sky island, and so much more without thinking you’re Monkey D. Luffy.
