All at fault here. Balance team makes questionable balance changes and vetex going “not reading allat” and implements said questionable changes to something really different or incorrectly implementing them.

The solution: Just limit the doc to one page. Makes the team focus on what is the most important and make vetex actually read allat

One page is nowhere near enough to solve most of the issues with the game, especially considering how many changes get skipped every update, and need to stay on the doc for the next update.

In the end, if the dev doesnt want to do the changes that are deemed necessary, there’s nothing the balance team can do to try and fix it.

I feel like using this video is just fucking slander.

The primary thing being shown, the weapon size bug, is just that: a bug. It’s not vetex not reading the doc, it’s just a fucking bug (one that I think was caused by a change made from the balance doc if I recall). The people at fault are the people that were testing before the release (re: the balance team included) to ensure there isn’t any maingame exclusive bugs.

Unfortunately, most of the balance team members aren’t testers, and meaning they have no way to actually test the game before updates.

While there are actually a few active testers on the balance team (about 5-10, id say), the main issue is that vet only adds the doc RIGHT before the update drops instead of as stuff is added to the doc, giving them almost no time to find bugs, or alter changes to try and fix issues.

If it were up to me, I would try to get as many active balance team members tester, since out of the over 100 actual testers, almost none of them care to/want to actually test.

the issue is that this isn’t some obscure bug, it’s EVERY weapon being fucked up size wise

Yeah, I’m not saying you’re wrong, I’m saying that it wasn’t tested properly by the people responsible for that. Chances are they tested out the base versions, and didn’t test the extremes (such as max size builds, or other ultra minmaxed builds)

That isn’t the case this time tho? Considering weapon customization was already added two weeks before the release unlike the balance changes which was only two days before release, pretty much the testers didn’t do that much testing. Can’t blame them tho since they aren’t getting paid or anything

The other issue is that none of the balance changes actually made it in either (besides size and speed nerfs), and like I said before, almost none of the testers actually test the game at all, with some of the “testers” having not ever even opened the game

yeah, it kind of sucks, tester has pretty much devolved into friend role 2.0

I think every single party is to be at fault for why AO is kind of the beautiful dumpster fire it is right now

since testers basically are 90% randoms who get a green name to stroke their ego with and 10% actual people who do their jobs (also not to mention how biased it feels when people get tester as its almost always because they just did something to make the small group of higher ups go “hurhur thats kinda funny”, example being arlyborg, no hate obviously, but I don’t think reaching 2million hunger exp is really “testing” anything)

the balance team is basically an entire new circle of hell and most likely some canonical physical form of chaos from the AU as they spew out who knows what (sometimes its helpful, admittedly, other times its… yeah)

and dare I say maybe even vetex is at fault in some areas, like not taking the time to read through balance docs (fair enough I guess but you should still try to make some more effort) or being uncommunicative and hard to talk with, something I’ve heard quite a few people complain about.

overall its a bunch of tiny things it seems instead of just 1 party that is the reason why AO is in a bit in-between a rock and a hard place rn.

Pretty much sums it up, and its pretty unfortunate that most people’s experience with the bteam is so bad. I normally try to be helpful and explain things, but at the end of the day, too much damage has been done from a combination of all the issues, that I doubt most people will regain faith in the testers, balance team, or even vetex in some cases.

Quite comedic how the people whose main job is to improve the game are also the ones slowly dragging it to its inevitable downfall
