Fishing is an objectively awful feature and is commonly used as filler to occupy the players while they wait for more actual gameplay. It rewards very little knowledge nor skill gained by playing the game, and has a very shallow learning curve. There are literally no advantages to this feature. Just think about it. Mention one thing that fishing does that cannot be covered more competently by boss drops and treasure chests. At least with those you actually have to move, and the creator has less reason to justify making absurdly small rare catch percentages.
With that being said, I hope fishing is getting removed or at least pushed to the side in AO. This is supposed to be an action-adventure game, after all.
Additionally, you can get fish, which can be used for powerful meals, and items you can’t get through chests that would only make sense to get through fishing.
Why not have it only be for fish, then? Just have it be for flexing your catches or getting neat badges. Adding the option of catching for rare items was a mistake.
In fact, why even have it at all? It’s not like it’s the only way to get food. Just have fishermen stationed near shorelines sell you their catches or point you towards where you can get said catches.
It’s not the grinding that’s my problem, since AO is probably going to be grindy regardless. It’s the fact that it’s both grindy and unengaging.
All problems caused either by bad game decisions or by the fishing feature itself. Vetex cannot reasonably make fishing for rares significantly easier than grinding for them, because that would de-incentivise the players from doing anything but fishing to get said rare gears.
Not a useful question when making a game or any project, really.
also it’s a side feature my guy. not the selling point of the game.
it wasn’t meant to be a major part of wom either, it just didn’t get many updates in general this making sunkens one of the best items. eventually they’ll be outclassed obviously
My guy is really malding over a feature that takes 2 seconds to create and add new items to, and goes on about how bad it is, WHEN YOU DONT EVEN NEED TO DO IT.
Fishing, while not an important aspect of the game, has it’s pros and cons. It is a way to get food along with all kinds of items. The price? Well aside from bait, time. Fishing isn’t an adrenaline pumping sport. Even fishing irl isn’t all that exciting but there are those who have some level of fun doing it. It is entirely avoidable too. Feature is in the game so why go through the trouble of removing it when the player can effectively remove it for themselves by just not fishing.
the only problem I have with fishing is sunken items being exclusively tied to it.
Feels like I’m being forced to do the most boring and unfun thing in the entire game just to get an item I want.
Honestly there’s only one fishing minigame I’ve ever enjoyed and its in AFR: Testing.
I feel like I should clarify what makes it unique from other fishing minigames.
In AFR: Testing, you use shiftlock and move the mouse in a certain way to cast any spell in the game, when fishing, you use shiftlock and move the mouse to match what the fish is doing.
This makes it feel connected to that gameplay mechanic, while being just challenging enough that I can’t just keep up a conversation while I’m reeling in whatever I’m catching.
In WoM… you just spam leftclick until you catch something.
not really a way to make it better, sitting there clicking the same spot is just boring as fuck when you need to do it for hours to get anything good
but its completely optional so who really cares
