previous part: the boat
Our heroes are currently floating upon the open ocean to the next island, where they’ll look for jobs to do in order to save up for a caravel.
“Hey Hecto…” Typ said nervously, “Uh, can we turn back? I haven’t told my parents I’m leaving yet”
“Alright, but we’re losing daylight” Hecto said as he pointed at the sky, the sun was falling down and a crimson aura slowly began to creep upon the horizon. “My old man knows I’m gonna be fine so I’ll wait on the boat for you.”
As Hecto and Typ were turning the small little wooden raft they were on, they noticed something else floating in the distance in the water…
“Hey Typ, you see that?” Hecto said pointing out at sea towards the object.
“What am I supposed to be seeing?” Typ replied.
“THAT.” Hecto turned Typ’s head towards the location of the strange object floating in the distance.
“What is that…?” Typ squinted unable to make out what it was. “Hecto, you think we should check it out? It could be maybe some kind of crate with goodies in it!” He smiled as a familiar spark of excitement could be seen inside his eyes. “Hmmm… Why not.” Hecto replied, “but we should be cautious nevertheless.”
And so the two of them changed their course of direction and headed for the strange object bobbing up and down in the water. As they got closer, they were shocked at the discovery, it wasn’t just some crates, it was a makeshift raft, and on top of that, there was a person on it.
“Oh my god Hecto! a castaway!” Typ yelled frantically, “Do you think they’re okay?”
“I don’t think so Typ…” Hecto said in a grim tone. “Look, there’s a giant metal nail lookin’ thing lodged in the back of the dude’s head” He pointed at the dark metal object protruding from the castaways heads.
“Oh, poor guy” Typ said, as an awkward silence filled the area.
And then the castaway spoke.
“You guys gonna help me or keep gawking at my lucky implant…?”
“OH MY GOSH HE’S ALIVE” Typ freaked out and almost tipped over the boat, Hecto jumped a little as well, it had appeared that Hecto’s notion was incorrect, this castaway was in fact alive, sorta…? His hoodie was torn up and lazily stitched together with red thread, and his skin was a sorta pale green, there was some red liquid that seemed to ooze from his currently closed eyes, Hecto assumed it was blood.
“Uh… Yeah…” Hecto said trying to catch his breath. he brang the boat closer in to help the mysterious figure. “hop on, we’re heading back to shore on our home island.”
“Thanks.” The figure replied, Typ would stare in fascination at the large metal nail in the back of the stranger’s head, poking it a little and feeling the flat top of it.
“Don’t be too rough with that thing, last time it fell out I was looking for the damned thing for almost 2 months…” the stranger glanced back at Typ with his pupil-less pure white eyes.
“Oh, sorry! I’m just really curious about it!” Typ chirped as he examined the figure’s clothing. “How long have you been out at sea for?”
“Honestly I can’t remember.” The figure responded thinking to himself staring at the sky. “There was a storm and…” The figure went silent. “what are you two doing out here?”
“Well, we were on our way to the next island to find jobs so we could get a proper boat and explore the seas, ultimately finding mimhere island, but, my friend, the weirdo you’re stationed next to back there, Typ, forgot to say goodbye to his family.” explained hecto. “By that way, what’s your name?”
“I’m Ent.” The figure said.
“That’s a cool name!” Typ said as he fiddled with the strange non hair bangs protruding from his own head. “Say, are you a pirate?”
“Uhm… no clue actually…” Ent mumbled. “I don’t remember much besides… my name…”
“Well, we’re almost at shore, you hungry for something? When was the last time you ate! you look like a zombie!” Hecto chuckled. The island was now in view as the three were slowly getting close to shore, the sun was even lower now, it was getting darker slowly.
“I think I’d like some ginger ale…” Ent replied happily.
