Light Magic, Is it the worst magic now? / Build Suggestions

I selected light magic in late 2023, when AO was being released and such. As light magic has been my main go-to magic for a long time before that. One of my biggest questions about light magic has been the fact that it doesn’t really work with any other magic. I tried Magma, Electric and water with it but none of them seem to work.
Light Magic is probably the fastest magic but does it even help at anything? Especially if your FPS is not constantly at 60 or a number similar to that?
How can you even make light magic useful in some way,? I haven’t tried conjurer and warlord builds, and I do not wish to do so before actually hearing the opinion of others.
( Sorry if I am using the wrong category, it has been a long time since the last time I used arcane odyssey forum. )
I don’t really want to remove my first slot as I have been using it since 2021, and making another slot is kinda too bothersome for me as I simply want to enjoy the story and interactions with NPCs / PVE.

If I have to make a summary out of all this text:
What is the best way to use light magic for PVE?
Which second magic should you use for light magic?
Should I switch to a different class if it’s more efficient with light magic?
As a note: I do not wish to engage in PvP. Killing NPCs is all I want to do. The current light magic is pretty useless against NPCs as they can like… make really fast attacks that do 200 damage or something similar to that. ( Or I just suck at it and I need some advices on how to fight NPCs )

attack speed and speed overall are very helpful, they let you throw out quick attacks without getting punished too heavily for them…

well, that’s in pvp when you’re playing against reasonable opponents. in pve when the npcs have aimbot and deal a quarter of your health by lightly tapping you on the shoulder, you just need to play like a bitch and use your ranged attacks solely.

what class does that sound like? fast mage! light mage is probably your best shot for doing pve with light.

the second magic you should use is really up to you, to be honest. crystal is the only one that has a positive synergy with light but you could probably go with any good magic and have it be fine

The issue is lag, not the magic, light is busted af if you use it right

I guessed the same answer. My stats are mainly focused on attack speed currently and it’s simply over 400.
What kind of ranged attacks do you suggest? Should I completely sacrifice attack size and go for agility + attack speed? Should I switch the spell’s shape to arrow? Do you have anything to suggest for that part?

Yeah, I know everything you said in this reply. If I use a proper technique at attacking / defending myself against NPCs, I will simply succeed. But don’t you actually have any kind of advice, saying one would simply be better than repeating the things I already know.

blast, beam, pulsar, placed explosion, javelin
and yes attack size scaling on light sucks

Thank you for these answers. I will try editing my whole playstyle / spell list again. I will try changing to crystal magic as I hardly ever use electric.

crystal magic is a slow magic so it may be harder to use

put count/duration (anything that makes the enemy take more instances of damage) to max
light synergieses with itself, so exploit that

metal, the polar opposite :melting_face:

maybe, maybe not, you decide wether you should choose strength vs fun

I was gonna say something rude but then I saw that you’re a PVE player only

then my advice is to run 400-500 attack speed using crystalline light arcmancer + arcsphere with brisk scrolls and switch from single attacks to multihits with at least 60-70 power and 400 def. With this sort of speed stat your multis will be as fast as most people’s single casts, enabling you to do ridiculous damage at low power invest.

but this only really works for mage as a warning ahead of time

even if it doesn’t work out at least it’s fun :+1:

Since light is already stupidly fast, use size

light scales really poorly with size and really well with speed so

Don’t need speed tho, it’s already 1.8
1x size ain’t that bad, plus the size boosts your attacks hitbox, making attacks easier to hit

All putting speed on light changes is going from hitting them in 0.2 seconds to 0.1, more speed doesnt do ALOT u less your trying to spam 20x attacks

light is always going to be hard to hit with, even if you go full attack size with it. the speed helps much more

Wasn’t the attack size formula changed to make smaller magics scale better the size than larger magics?

i think it was changed to stop bigger magics from gaining as much from size, but not the other way around

My main way to get extra AOE on mylight mage file is to use AOE shape such as Cube, Hammer
