I got an idea of a character thats used to add emotion to the comic, like a child who had their parents killed in Cassia Bay, leaving with her little brother and survivors to Harvest Island.
I could build a rig but it’s way too late right now
The universe is pretty bleak, first time shedding a light on how horrible war is.
yea sure, he could be recruited into the crew in the future and a member of the MC’s clan which then could let him be a defender of the HQ of the Bronze Sea which is… Cassia Bay
Oh yeah forgot to mention, the little brother dies as he was thrown overboard by Thorne soldiers
Sounds cool, but what is the ultimate goal of the MC?
well their ultimate goal depends if Vetex finishes the game, the ending of the game is the MC goal.
This sounds like a really fun collaboration! I’ll admit I’m a little worried about characterization and accurate representation since you’re working with so many different people’s OCs all at once and don’t have a lot of details to work off of… But it also sounds interesting seeing how someone else interprets my characters for their story. It could even be better, who knows? I think I could accept whatever’s done with them.
Benjamin Brooks (my main file)
Personality
He has the type 2 enneagram fixation (strongest desire is to be accepted, worthy of love). Very clingy and overdependent. Goes overboard doing extremely big and kind favors for the people he seeks companionship from. He wears himself down, completely breaking himself for others’ sake, and in his head he believes he does this because he’s a kind person, but the truth is he does it so that he won’t be abandoned.
He justifies his clinginess and obsession with getting closer to his friend Simon with the belief of “I can’t possibly survive on my own. I need to do this.” He gets his first awakening when he realizes he can be strong all on his own, dismantling the lie he tells himself, leaving the truth laid bare. His second awakening would come when he finally deals with that truth, leaving behind the overdependence and standing up for himself, asserting his own needs for once.
Benjamin is generally very irritable, kinda has a “done with everything” attitude to most things, though he will put up an overly-friendly, cheery, talkative act with people he wants to befriend.
His speech mannerisms are pretty casual. Far from the most colloquial there is, just… average person sorta speech.
After becoming one of the very few to know about the Eternal Mines, he developed a very deep hatred for the Ravenna Realm. To illustrate this point, here’s a picture of him meditating on a ruined Fort Castrum. The sight, smell, and sounds of it burning are like the sweet bliss of Elysium to him.
He will also get grossed out if he sees anyone using bronze tools like weapons or armor, since he knows it comes from the work of slaves.
Great or Superb Cooking Skill
Decent or No Brewing Skill
Brilliant Jewelcrafting Skill (it’s been a hobby of his for a long time)
Backstory
Benjamin Brooks lived his whole life as a shipwright at Rasna in Ravenna, as part of his father’s business. The root of his issues is that every single friend he made in his childhood left him. Their parents decided to move the family to another island, or they simply moved towns and fell out of touch, or slowly drifted away. I don’t know where his mother was, and his father wasn’t very affectionate, genuinely was more like his boss than his dad
Benjamin was always watching ships leave, sailing off to grand adventures with their friends, but never able to go himself. He was stuck on Ravenna, with no choice but to carry on the business he was born into.
Finally, his very last friend left. Benjamin was the one who had to build the ship he would leave in. Ben went all-out, making it as big and high-quality as possible, thinking if he did his friend a big favor then he would stay after all. It didn’t work, and they left on bad terms after a big fight.
Ben gave an awkward wave goodbye, as his hand started to glow. His family had been known for their physical strength only; they were magicless for generations. Ben thought he was the same, but here, his latent magical potential awakened for the first time. The power of Moonlight was born from his bitter sorrow. It was amazing news, but came at a time where he honestly couldn’t care less. His final friend “abandoned” him, and that was all that mattered.
Later that night, Benjamin overheard his father talking to King Calvus. The king was furious, saying the Brooks bloodline had grown weak; Benjamin was the first only child in generations, and wasn’t as physically strong as his ancestors. Their shipbuilding work was slacking, and Ravenna’s navy was starting to suffer for it.
In desperation, Ben’s father made a deal. Mr. Brooks would work twice as hard to compensate for his family’s failure, and Benjamin would be sent to the eternal mines. Terrified, Benjamin threw together a scrappy rowboat and fled Ravenna in the night, ending up at Redwake.
He heard about the lost treasure of Captain Harwell, supposedly hidden somewhere in the Jaws, and decided to search for it. The wealth could do him some good now that he’s a fugitive on the dangerous and unfamiliar War Seas.
He didn’t end up finding it, but he did meet Simon, who was also looking for Harwell’s treasure. Simon and Benjamin did battle, and Ben got utterly disrespected
Benjamin would be about level 65 at this point, with 100 Strength and 30 Magic. (He had gotten to level 50 just from his hard laborious work at Ravenna.) Simon, on the other hand, was probably about level 175-200.
Thrown into the War Seas without any help or guidance, Ben had zero belief in himself that he could survive on his own, and he was also desperate for a friend or a connection that would last, unlike his many childhood friends.
He learned Simon was a bounty hunter well-known in the northern Bronze Sea. The “Tourmaline Terror,” criminals called him. Simon saw potential in Ben, giving him the offer to be his bounty hunting partner… a very dangerous job with a very dangerous man. Benjamin, in all his clingy folly, accepted the deal.
Their first mission was at Frostmill. Benjamin was NOT prepared for the cold, having come from the blisteringly hot island of Ravenna. The criminals they were targeting overwhelmed him. Desperate for warmth, he reinvented Thermo Fist on the fly, completely independently from any mentor, with zero prior knowledge of the fighting style’s existence. It was a good fit for him, a fast fighting style to go with his fast magic.
Benjamin continued these missions with Simon, who was always cold and distant. Simon expected a lot out of Ben, more than he was prepared for. The job was breaking him. But he continued, thinking if he just kept going, and devoted himself wholly to Simon’s goals, he would have someone who would never leave him.
Ben also wanted to get revenge on Ravenna, but Simon’s own vengeance plot always took precedent over his. When Benjamin heard the news that the AOMC had destroyed Fort Talos and killed King Calvus, Benjamin was happy, but also distraught that he couldn’t have been there to help. He had wanted to get involved, but Simon shot down his ideas, and now Benjamin no longer has the opportunity to get all of that pent-up anger out of his system. Ravenna is already in ruins, there’s no revenge left to take. He’s just stuck with this rage boiling barely beneath the surface, and zero personal closure.
And there’s the premise of Ben’s tale. Feel free to take it where you like, or even use an entirely different backstory. Whatever you do with him is cool!
Appearance
Wore a basic black tank-top and blue jeans when he worked as a shipwright at Ravenna, as shown in the picture of him waving goodbye.
He would have two outfits for most of his story after leaving Ravenna. Leather armor for colder climates, wanderer’s robe for warmer ones.
Much, much later into the story, he would have an outfit change to this. Much fancier, more well-put together, showing how he has grown more independent and confident in his own capabilities, as well as accustomed to the harsh War Seas and bounty hunting.
He has long black hair with a branching ponytail, blue eyes, and dark skin. He’s 5’10 and in his very early 20s. With his mask on he looks babyfaced, but when it comes off you see all his messy stubble and rough caveman-like features, and you would think he’s 30-40 years older than he really is. It’s a really funny contrast.
(Art by the amazing FreddyFazguy)
Abilities
Moonlight Magic and Thermo Fist, for most of his story. Afterimage Dodge Reflex. His second magic will be Gold Metal Magic, symbolizing learning how to value himself, and also his newfound willingness to set up sturdy boundaries with the people who wish to take advantage of him.
Much, MUCH later, he would also get either Aether Magic or Gravity Magic. He would no longer have Thermo Fist but I don’t know what I’d replace it with. Maybe Radius Fist, or that vanishing-based fighting style Vetex mentioned. Imagine throwing hands with someone who can vanish at any moment, and walk on walls and the ceiling with Gravity Magic, force you to duel with him upside down, or even float. He could be literally anywhere in the room every time he vanishes
Benjamin’s way of fighting is very unrefined and improvisational. He specializes in using the environment to his advantage, like using Thermo Fist to set tree branches on fire and then launching a huge barrage of burning splinters and wood chunks at you by shattering the branch with Shockwave Smash.
He uses his fighting style a lot more than his magic. He would use Embodiments, but not Shapes. Maybe he would shape his Metal Magic, but probably not Light. The main way he uses his magic is to augment and improve his strength techniques, such as improving his speed or blinding his opponent to prepare for a combo.
Simon Perseus (secondary file)
Personality
Serious, formal. Rarely uses contractions in his speech, but there would be some for the sake of convenience and flow. He tries to keep his sentences short and to the point without losing formality.
Because he was raised to be an assassin, he is incredibly knowledgeable about combat and is totally ignorant to the fact that other people weren’t taught these advanced things as well, often to a comedic degree.
(Simon) “If you didn’t know how to dash thirty feet while suspended in midair, why not say so before I brought you on this mission?!”
(Benjamin) “THAT’S A THING???”“What do you mean you cannot form a magic circle faster than the firing of a bullet?”
“CAN YOU?!”“But surely you know where all the vitals are? Draw me a diagram of where each artery is found.”
“Who raised you?”
Simon is pretty socially inept. He might give a backhanded compliment without realizing it’s backhanded. He has a very “done with everything” attitude like Benjamin but even more so and more consistently.
He is willing to go to extremes for his goals, even if it requires using other people. His way of justifying this to himself is thinking, “If Benjamin is clingy and excessively eager to prove himself, then that is just the kind of person he is naturally. Who am I to deny him if he wants to break himself for my cause?” Completely denying that Ben has major issues, believing he was like that from birth, and that by feeding into his neediness, Simon is “helping” him.
Simon gets very mad at the insinuation that he’s anything like his mother. Probably also why he never got into jewelcrafting.
Superb Cooking Skill (had to make his own meals for pretty much his whole life)
Excellent or Perfect Brewing Skill (taught by assassins)
No Jewelcrafting Skill (ironic for a guy with Crystal Magic )
Backstory
Born into the Assassin Syndicate, Simon was raised on Whitesummit by his high-ranking mother, Selene Perseus.
He manifested Crystal Magic at a young age and was taught all the ins and outs of combat. He practiced by going out to hunt wild animals on the mountain with his father.
He also had a little sister, Jade Perseus. They fought sometimes but were very close.
Simon’s upbringing in the Red Corner was very traumatizing, and not just because of Architect Merlot’s ear-grating “lullabies” (seriously that guy wouldn’t know good lyricism if it punched him in the face).
Selene was not only an assassin, but also an organ trafficker. Sometimes, at a very young age, Simon and Jade would find organs lying around the house. Their father pressured Selene to hide them better, not to much avail.
The Blackwater Criminals were sort of kind to them, but, being criminals, a lot weren’t. There was this unsettling and unsafe aura surrounding them every time they went into the grotto to get groceries.
Simon’s father was once a hero who got gradually tricked/manipulated by Selene. He was a conjurer and skilled archer and huntsman. One day, when Selene’s crimes were nearly found out, she used him as a scapegoat, pinning everything on him. He was executed at Palo Town. Not completely undeserved, as he did genuinely do many evil things after his days of heroism were over. Worst of all was having two kids in the syndicate, like how stupid could you be
Still, it was a cruel betrayal and a bad way to go out. Simon has conflicted feelings about the man now. He resents his father for being so foolish, but also, his best memories were when they were together.
Many years later, when Simon was nearly an adult, Selene’s cover almost got blown again. And Simon would be the scapegoat this time. The Navy was coming to arrest him, and he barely fled to safety in time. His greatest regret is that he couldn’t take his little sister with him, leaving her to remain subject to Selene for the untold future.
Simon quickly took to bounty hunting, not just to make a living but also to clear his name to the Grand Navy after he was framed. The Navy takes no notice of his good deeds, however. Only criminals care about his name. “The Tourmaline Terror.” It wouldn’t be long before they figured out how to deal with him.
After continual failed missions, his career was falling apart, and so were his chances of ever getting revenge and rescuing Jade. It would be so easy if he could return to the Red Corner, but Selene and Jade moved out of Whitesummit long ago and went into hiding somewhere else in the War Seas.
Then, Simon met Benjamin. A vulnerable, scared and confused man. Extremely quick, perfect to make up for Simon’s own weaknesses. Willing to do anything for someone he just met. It was too good to be true. And the rest was history.
Simon is not exactly a villain. He’s certainly far from a good person, but that’s due to social immorality. He’s pretty moral as far as the law goes. He left Whitesummit before he could become a full-fledged assassin, so he has never killed a good person. He could be left behind by Benjamin for his manipulation and abuse, or he could be redeemed, or something else! Do with him what you like
Appearance
6’0. He is unhealthily skinny, but this is hidden by his bulky gear. Hair is naturally brown, but dyed white to hide his identity. Grew out a ponytail in memory of his sister.
This is his main look, for cold climates especially (where he mostly hangs out). The wolf pelt is very important to him, as it relates to his father. You could remove the eye bandage for most of the story, as he doesn’t lose an eye until later.
Alternative outfits. Idk why he took the wolf pelt off, maybe he didn’t want it getting ruined. (The real reason is this was made before I thought of that lore.)
Abilities
Crystal Magic (tourmaline variant), and later on Shadow as his second. Crystal Barriers Dodge Reflex. The only weapons he uses are arcanium guns. A literal sharpshooter. Much more powerful than Benjamin.
He casts his magic exclusively with his feet and legs, since his hands are always busy holding his guns. This strange manner of fighting is actually quite advantageous sometimes, since most people aren’t used to guarding at such low levels. He can fire his guns and cast magic at the same time, making it hard to keep track of what he’s doing.
Instead of using the preexisting environment to his advantage like Benjamin does, Simon makes the environment. Forces you to fight on his terms, spreading crystal chunks everywhere and shrouding stuff in shadows. Very much a control freak.
Adding on to the theme of “being in control,” he can fight extremely well at any distance, whether long, medium, or close. Sometimes he even prefers close range, which is extremely unusual for a gun wielder. You never know what to expect with him.
He particularly excels at shaping his Crystal Magic. Chains to wrap, spikes to stab, birds to go a longer distance, or hands to grab, you name it. When right up close and personal, and you’re watching his hands rather than the feet, he’ll sneakily hide crystalline piranhas on your clothes or skin, and make them bite down at the worst moment. Genuinely a super annoying guy to fight.
(He is a certified Snare spammer btw)
Very adept with his guns, using them well be it from afar or up close, though he is more talented with his magic.
He can use some bladed skills even though he’s guns-only, because his rifle has a bayonet attached to the end, crafted from several teeth of a Poison Jaws shark he hunted.
(no bayonets in-game sadly, but here’s a picture of PTD shining cycle)
His strategy is to overwhelm you with way too much way too quickly, opting for decisive battles. He attacks fast, but he himself is very slow-moving. This is because he has bulky gear, is not very physically strong, and his Barriers Dodge Reflex isn’t the best at going far distances either. That’s his big weakness.
If you run away he can still snipe you with his guns and good aim, but the moment you take cover, it’s over. He seems like a scary guy but is worthless against running. That’s why he needs Ben, whose whole thing is attacking fast and moving fast to catch any fleeing stragglers.
Also, Simon might struggle against someone who’s all-in on a particular thing. Like someone with overwhelming power who can just tear through all his crystals like it’s nothing. Or someone with giant-sized attacks, which he obviously would not be able to avoid. Or someone who manages to blitz him faster than he can blitz back.
I’m not sure what lost or ancient he’d get. He will probably mutate Shadow into Sacrifice after learning to be the one who gives rather than just taking and taking and taking. Hooray for character development, and people not being total jerks anymore!
A lot of this lore is very subject to change and may be overhauled.
Best of luck on your comic. Whether my characters get used or not I can’t wait to see it
Why are his shoulders so big
so I have a file who might be fun to mess with: “Wings” as goopman calls them
they’re this kid that is ungodly fast, like, jump between sky islands fast
use them or something there’s a fair bit more nuance to them like them acting dumb and also some order related trauma related to their speed, idk you don’t need allat to use em
ok ig if you want it: they had a buncha order experiments on them, which hurt (a lot), this gave them the speed, they merk’d the order members and left vowing to kill all of the order. They had a friend there who helped them not go insane, they dunno whats been happening with em. Again I should reiterate this is like a child as in like 16 at the oldest and they normally play dumb cause its easier
