Now that I think about it, why does the Arcturus mythical dragon have the same title as that one pirate that died in Blackreach? Was the title so good that they had to use it again? I mean I was so fucking jealous when I heard “The Vermillion Dread” so I wouldn’t be surprised. Either that or he was based on the myth

the real real reason: the dragon turned into a human (they can just do that) and nerfed itself (they can, of course, just do that) and then got up to some light hearted mischief (killing stupid gravy scum), but they got bored after a few days so it shed its skin (they’re lizards[1], they do that) but since its in human form it also left behind the bones and it transformed back into its normal version and then flew out the top (the grate was put there afterwards)

It’s probably just that the guy was named after them because the mythical dragons aren’t actually canon. They are myths. For once it might actually have been intentional
It could also be a reference to Shakespear’s The Tempest, wherein Prospero is an usurped Duke exiled to an island along with his daughter. It should be noted that Prospero was a powerful sorcerer who used his magic to control spirits and even alter the weather (again using spirits), he even managed to raise the dead… which has interesting implications in the AU specifically, that is of course if Vetex was even thinking about The Tempest when naming him. Still, the name at the very least implies that the kingdom may have been powerful in the ways of magic, and if we take the Spirit angle a bit more literally, it may imply that King Prospero is/was a Legacy.
(It should be noted I haven’t read the Tempest, yet, but I did scan the Wikipedia article for Prospero, and watched OSP’s summary of The Tempest a few years ago.)
Now, I do think that the Red Death may actually be a better source to look at, especially since the Apples were with held specifically to help heal their friends and family. However, I do wonder if the true reference that Vetex was going for was the Garden of the Hesperides, given the overt reference to golden apples, which the GoH famously grew, though I think this has been discussed before.
Overall, I am fascinated and excited to see the Eden Empire, or its potential ruins whenever Vimir releases.
PS) A bit more on the Hesperides angle, if the apples which were usually traded were suddenly taken off the market, that may spur other nations to thievery, which parallels one of Heracles’s trials. I doubt this will have actual lore significance, and it may not even be true, still it’s a fun literary reference, which this post has mostly been.

honestly i wouldnt put it past vetex to give the kingdom inspired by the garden of eden the wisdom blessing, it just fits thematically
