Magic change cost

funny until you’re a pvper grinding rewown and get into a clan battle with a custom magic :broken_heart:
exhibits A & B

idk where this “if magic changing was easy people would just change their magic every time it gets nerfed” thing comes from like the people who play pvp or even pve seriously dont just make new slots or have been using shadow/earth/lightning since the game came out

making magic changing a pain in the cheeks only punishes people who want to keep everything consolidated on one slot and like having stuff like maxed out deckhands or titles

Ok but most people legitimately can’t even test the feature to begin with, so when you say “testers are defending a bad change” your basis isn’t the change itself it’s popular opinion.

From the perspective of someone who legitimately disagrees with the public how do you respond to this when the public opinion doesn’t even have a solid basis? Add that to the fact that negativity catches attention more than positivity so people are more likely to just hate the change by default.

This problem usually just resolves itself if you actually address the arguments themselves. If someone is making a faulty argument to defend a change then they most likely have an ulterior motive. If not then maybe they have a point?

Like if you want the rundown of actual tester opinions so you can be sure of what is and isn’t genuine:

  • Fall Damage: Mostly a nothingburger. It was more negative when it first dropped but over time the sentiment has improved.
  • Pouches: Annoying (sentiment probably changed with the new setting)
  • Energy Rework: Unpleasant
  • Magic gamepass: Some don’t care, others think the price is unfair

its moreso based on logic, we’ve been through countless updates and iterations of this game without fall damage, and its suddenly announced out of the blue (it was leaked but w/e). of course people are going to be upset and voice their opinions. are they automatically “wrong” because of this? plenty of arguments have been made and it seems you just hand them away as “faulty” arguments.

and the snarky attitude from testsers/mods/whatever of the like just reinforces the beliefs people have of you guys. “erm we tested it, we saw, its good, vetex wont change it anyway etc.”

people complained about the difficulty of changing magic (a perfectly valid concern). then out of spite, 2000 robux gamepass is planned, solely to make changing magic still inaccessible and to appease the “lore” (i can guarantee 90% of players do not care about the lore and just pvp by this point), yes people are gonna be upset.

with custom magics, most people hate them due to them being used for bounty hunting/infamy, and of course, every tester/mod/ higher up ive seen is defending it

its like people point out flaws with the game and then for whatever reason its made twice as bad just to be petty, i dont understand it. day after day, my view of certain higher ups of this game just seems like a clique rather than a team working to make the game better.

its because of these reasons and possibly more, that people dont automatically take the words of testers as gospel, no offense. im sure of some you guys are fine though

I’d lowkey just go on a journey for a Hecate Essence at that price, which is literally the point of the high price tag lol

The arguments I’m addressing right now are specifically the arguments you have made though. You’re sitting here trying to tell me that “it isn’t wrong” for people to react with hostility to these changes.

I wouldn’t even necessarily disagree because:

  1. The nature of a community is downstream from either the higher ups or the game itself, whether that be promoting these attitudes or failing to moderate them.
  2. The general community doesn’t have insider knowledge.

That’s why I’m not going to go on the fall damage poll for example and just start calling everyone stupid.

But to say that the community has a right to react that way and then get mad when testers respond??? Like is this right to share an opinion one-sided or what?

I just discussed with the other guy not too long ago that I just posted a harmless take and open the thread to people being hostile. I’m not going to spend the time trying to lower the temperature after that, sure that’s probably a good idea and ultimately what you should be doing but just personally I’m going to keep the same energy. It’s not an ideal way to handle things moreso than it is a loss of patience.

Give me paper and ink magic and I can solo, trust

Oracles do NOT deserve to be able to use a spirit weapon without developing relations and making offerings to the god, change it NOWW!!!

Stuff like this could easily be made cool if it served as actual fun content rather than some deterrence like with FS Mastery where it’s just spamming attacks against NPCs for 30 minutes

Imagine being dragged to a screen where you convene with your chosen god (meditating like the people in the sun temple) and you have to play through the conversation like a visual novel and choose different dialogue options for different effects, lol.

It’d be pretty interesting lorewise since we’ve already talked to Poseidon.

wiki guide for how to get the best outcome

yes

i think its both for AO. yes the community can be truly awful but the same behaviors persist within the higher ups

i think they should have knowledge of major gameplay changes. you claim its a nothingburger but, im sure you can see people consider fall damage (which was originally going to be gatekept from the general public, but was leaked) a big deal and many dont agree with it and have valid concerns

mainly because of the reputation they have made for themselves. ive outlined some reasons why people dont trust the opinions of testers, but im sure others have their own reasons. nobody says you dont have a right to your own opinion, but, when higher ups/tester just regurgitate the same “we tested it, its good, shut up you dont know anything” elitist type of opinion every time someone says a change sucks, yea people are gonna be hostile back

fair, we are all human anyways

i think this argument has ran its course by now so i shall disappear

Five(Infinite) Nights at Build To Survive The Cats has a pretty good prayer mechanic that manages to convey a sense of communion and mysticism at the same time, though its primary purpose is to appease the god so it doesn’t have strong effects if it even has any.

That’s not me so I gotta say its funny

vetex can use any excuse he want we all know the real reason he wont make it easy for mages to switch magic is because its “lore inaccurate”

i think the price should be decreased to 1999

Exactly

Maple’s essence post copy spotted, administering equally copied response:

(no, I will not be happy that a mechanic was added in a way deliberately made to make me unhappy, what kinda backwards logic is that???)

look, you want magic change so badly? fine, but you’ll have to earn it

So, everyone can’t stop rambling and rumbling about how is that gamepass has no place in AO or this one should not be here and there, price should be lowered or have completely different functionality… But I have different view on this as I kinda just love making ideas that I would personally enjoy to see even as a different person with different ideology and world view, for now I want to speak about Gamepasses (aka. In-Game Purchases) that we currently have:

/ Muscles (200 Robux) - gives you option to have muscular arms, quite underwhelming imo.
/ More Ship Colors (200 Robux) - much better Gamepass for what it has to offer, letting you customize more colors for your ship, decent and more better than Muscles Gamepass that costs the same price.
/ Durable Notes (50 Robux) - most useless out of all gamepasses, but the cheapest, extends Note duration 30 minutes and makes it visibly distinct.
/ Extra Vanity Slots (300 Robux) - gives 2 more Vanity Slots, which for Fashion Community is very sweet, but offer isnt worth 300 robux, combining it with Muscles turns the price into 500 robux and it isnt really comfortable to just be forced to have more than 400 robux or buy 800 robux for 10$, more better approach would be combining Extra Vanity Slots with Muscles Gamepass and renaming said gamepass into “Better Vanity” and having it cost at max 400 robux.
/ Inventory Loadout (600 Robux) - offers you 6 Loadout slots that instantly auto-equip you with Set of equipment you saved (both stats and vanity), price seems reasonable but still a bit overpriced, 400 robux feels more reasonable but at the same time feels like it supposed to be a Free Feature rather than paid one.
/ Animation Packs (300-400 Robux) - animation packs that offer different animations for your characters, the only problem I have with this is that: All of currently available Packs if combined cost 1700 Robux, and what I really want is for Animation Packs being actual packs and offer you 3 in 1 instead of 1 in 1 so it would cost 3 times less that it is right now. Even if it’s purely vanity thing, doesn’t change the fact it’s Digital Vanity thing and so price should not be like gucci, at least making them cost 50-100 robux less will make it

Now for Dev Products (aka. multi-time in-game purchases), where most heat starts now on:
/ Extra File (200 Robux) - has [wikis sucks so i cant get exact number] max of files, each act just like previous free 3 files, just one more. Perspectively no flaws
/ Name Change (200 Robux) - change your Character’s First Name and Last Name, wanna hear my problem with this? It’s pricing, while Vetex has shown 50 robux offers, he for some reason still havent provided the said value to some offers, Name Change will have perfect value if it would be not more than 50 robux if not free at all, considering that player might want to change their name because they don’t like current one. If Product would not be used often, it doesn’t mean it has to have higher price, it should be rather opposite
(Not released to the main game gamepasses):
/ Magic Circle Packs (150 Robux) - lets you choose to change Magic Circle Design, it has same conflict like Animation Packs, price of buying All Packs will be costly, and alongside that: Magic Circles aren’t really that important of detail and pricing seems higher than it should be, inserting 3 different Magic Circle Designs in one Pack for around 50-100 robux would be enough
/ Magic Change (2,000 Robux) - star of the show, the grand discussion of mages, costing 2,000 robux everytime you want to change your base magic, problem lies in absolutely everything it relates to:
first of all, pricing - costing a whole meal if not two, to just change your base magic, and despite this reasoning behing this cost isn’t quite calming
second of all, hecate essence - really annoying as rumored, hard to spot and hard to reach, located in Far Reaches of Dark Sea located on random islands with chance of not spawning at all
and finally, most important of them all: CLASSES - all other classes has its way to change their main tool for fighting, may it weapons or martial arts, for Oracles and Warriors it’s just finding a weapon of their liking, for Berserkers it’s finding a Mentor that offer a quest and small bit of fee for in-game currency, and Mages? To change THEIR TOOL of FIGHTING they have NO EASY WAY of doing so, Hecate Essence is in Far Reaches of Dark Sea where only a prepared ship can get and its not easy to spot it, and even the offer for 2,000 robux feels like mockery for choosing to be mage.
Poor Design Choice, overpriced value, done for “lore accuracy”
and that’s leaves me to make a breakdown for why Magic Change’ pricing does not make sense (alongside other products)

Being “lore accurate” pricing of Magic Change is odderly unaccurate for whatever Vetex tries to state for “lore accuratines”, making Magic Change technically cost real life money pretty much makes plot holes in lore and making questions towards said lore: “How exactly we get it then?”, “How do my irl money solve my in-game problem?”, “Is it really lore accurate?” thus until answered does not make sense to existing lore. Now for Hecate Essence and Classes:
For whatever reason, other classes (Warrior, Berserk even Oracle) have their own ways to change Tools they are Fighting with barely any trouble, if for example: Warrior wants to get cool fancy sword they can just buy it for 10,000 IN-GAME CURRENCY (Oracles are the same), while Berserk can just find Fighting Style they enjoy and do Mentor’s Quest, pay small IN-GAME CURRENCY fee… And change Fighting Style to said one for same fee! See the pattern here? Everyone except for Mages (and mage hybrids) can easily change their Battle Tools without doing overly long grinds or having to pay it with robux/irl money, which IS A PROBLEMO, while other classes are basically enjoying their possibilities, mages have to suffer the most for “lore accuracy” while our character is like - basically MC of some story having “Golden Blood” or smth and having it “lore accurate” doesn’t help the Gameplay, AT THIS POINT JUST TURN GAME INTO PERMA-DEATH ONE FOR BETTER LORE ACCURACY AM I RIGHT? AM I??? IT HELPS YOU SO MUCH WITH LORE ACCURACY AND YOU ALSO CAN MAKE IT MORE IMMERSIVE AND REALISTIC FOR THE FUCKING GODS’ SAKE SO GENIUS I AM, WHY WONT YOU DO IT? YOU CANT BECAUSE IT WILL MAKE GAMEPLAY MORE UNACCEPTABLE? That’s right, there IS things that make “lore accurate gameplay” unacceptable, including a way Magic Change have been implemented, if given enough time and if you’ll listen to people you might as well make something that people will not get mad at
So is Current Magic Change stuff should exist? Well, I am pretty much want to make it clear: Hecate Essence was released far too early and needed more polishing and changes such as: making Hecate Essence permamently give you ability to Freely Change Magic, such opportunity should’ve existed, at least let Change of Magic to certain Magics that you have picked and gotten from Hecate Essence and/or Awakening, other way is Magic Change Quest similarly to Mentors, although it might conflict with lore but does it really matter when there’s “nah i’d win” quote in yuletide event? And unexplained Chaos and Hades related stuff? Our own character’s powers? THE Magic? Anything and everything can be better if you put a bit of thought into it

Testers and Contributers, Co-devs dont help the situation, especially Vetex’ personality, holding a game that has potential to be one of the games it it inspired by, while offering unacceptable monetization managment while looking at other roblox games rather than into games it was originally inspired by, I know Vetex loves (probably) his game and wants to make it into one of best games on Roblox (PROBABLY).. But what I seen so far, is that: he doesn’t even looks at his game in Average Normal Player’s perspective, making mistakes through out the way while missing opportunities of fixing said mistakes or even making game more engaging while also player to invest into story with it’s characters and world building, it might would slow down game’s production but does it really matter? If said problems would not be addressed, they will build up a pile which will take even more time to solve, no one wants it right? So why not just let more suggestions be made? I already given some ideas so why not try to note them somewhere and actually care about gameplay’s quality as much as lore’s quality?
As I seen, the only current gameplay problem right now is:
Difficulty Spike (currently only a single one) in Nimbus Sea
Magic Change - Hecate Essence and Gamepass (also main topic)
and Lack of Content (or at least, poor quality of current replayability content)
So for now, we have at least more good things than bad ones, but you know what they say
never put a bad apple along with many good ones
let the time go as it goes, and hope that our desires get answered and granted as intended
personally i have little to have care to the game than i had before, but i still in the community despite the fact that i dont even play the game as often, i barely even play it, yet still i from time to time replay it from very beginning to very latest end of storyline or to max level if i really feel like it.

Now for conclusion:
Does Magic Change Gamepass needs to exist? No, nor lowering the price will make it better
as other classes have way better way to Change their Tools of Fighting, like Berserk who can just switch Fighting Styles for a quest (if it wasnt done before) and small in-game currency fee
Hecate Essence can get more tweaks for it’s gameplay design like: giving you permament feature to switch between unlocked Magics gotten through Awakening or Hecate Essence itself (for free)
And most importantly, use loopholes in lore to make more satisfying/acceptable gameplay rather than making even more loopholes :stuck_out_tongue:
and also dont add things from spite and anger

Can someone make tl;dr? I forgot what i wrote
