Magic Tier List

I think you’d be better off making one entirely subjective and one entirely objective list.

Entirely objective list in this kind of a Game is really hard if not impossible to do. People have their own opinion ALWAYS and there will always be ones who wont agree on it because they kinda have their own point. Also considering the way most Magics change a lot, for example, Balance Team or new features get added, Magics become either weaker or stronger, or just stay as they were before.

doesn’t mean you can’t take a shot at attempting to remove personal bias :man_shrugging:
yes it’s hard but there’s still going to be a most agreed on list - which in turn would make the most sense to be closest to objective

Can’t we just evaluate them objectively based on all of its limited factors? It’s no like video games are as complex and detailed as reality is, we only have so few things to calculate in comparison to it.

There is no objective tier list brother.
The game is opinionated.
I can say that this magic has high power, high speed, but so what?
The reason I state this is because it makes it good, but only in my opinion.
For example, someone who mains earth would suffer on light, as they are used to more positioning-based gameplay trying to mitigate endlag and higher size, even though I put light higher than earth.
Contrarily, someone who mains speed glass mage would be bored out of their mind on ice, as they are used to more aim-based gameplay and not dealing with endlag or much travel time, even though I put ice higher than glass.
Everything has to be biased, because no magic is superior for everyone, there is no insane ultimate magic that is better in all aspects to the others that everyone will be better using than others.
The idea of a mostly agreed on list is going to be chaos, as handily represented by these many comments in this discussion with people thinking I’m an idiot, inexperienced, baiting, that this is an april fools prank, or that I’m gravely mistaken in my experience. There is never going to be a consensus, unless the balancing is so bad in the future that an “ultimate magic” exists.

If you mean a magic speed ranking or which one has the best damage potential, then you can probably make something much less / void of opinion, making an objective speed or objective dps tier list based off of statistics and stuff, but that’s not what I’m doing

I think you’re taking my comment further to heart than it should be.

Can this not be explained by someone being used to something, hence growing to prefer it without ever trying the other side of the leaf?

Thank you @Mithridatise for stating this already

Yes, that is exactly what I’m saying. People’s playstyles vary greatly in video games, and that’s a wonderful thing that I genuinely love about AO.
This does, however, mean that people have varying opinions and playstyles, making a consensus difficult and objectivity not possible due to relativity to others existing. Not everyone is going to find shadow to be the best magic, even though it’s commented often to be ‘meta’ and ‘the best magic’. It’s not how gaming works.
The entire point of this tier list is not to create an ultimate objective tier list, it’s literally just to have some fun in a forum of a roblox game on the internet. Sure, I’ll include facts and logic into my ranking, because that’s my way of explaining why I like certain things better than others. I’m just getting my opinion out there and maybe people can agree with me, convince me to try out things, disagree with me (you), and we can have a good time in a nice community chat.

I accidentally already replied to this in an edit, but yeah you definitely can but that’s not what I’m doing. That would be a ranking, not a typical tier list. If you’ve ever seen anyone make a tier list on the internet, it’s almost always based off of NO FACTS and simply what they like and dislike about it. 2 examples I can think of from memory (I don’t have much experience with tier list media) are music tier lists (entirely opinionated despite a certain small consensus typically due to quality or target audience’s genre) and fruit (typically reaching a smallll consensus based off of what is on average most appealing to most taste buds and/or popular)

If you want to continue this, first of all seek help, and second of all you can dm me

I’m pretty sure that bug was patched

now it’s just damage reduction at the cost of bigger hitbox

bit unnecessary there mate

Bigger hitbox? What? Does it like… Stretch your character so people hit you more or something

because attacks can hit the massive barriers which causes them to explode when you would’ve otherwise dodged them

'Twas a joke
please stop tho this argument is so stupid :sob:

nah I used it a while back and while it’s supposed to be fixed I found it to be even buggier than before, sometimes altering it and sometimes correctly not doing so
Overall I don’t use barriers at all, slow, big hitbox, dr that isn’t worth it considering you can block while dashing (and/or parry)

you still put the shadow magic in s tier and above metal so here’s my very cool shadow cookie
