If you’re going to be fighting the same guy throughout the entirety of the game from level 50 to 1000, maybe there should be more options available to said guy?

One solution is to give rivals a higher level cap than ordinary guys. Right now every procedural NPC caps out at 160, maybe boost rivals up to 200 or even 240. We can handle a lv300 right now as shown by literally every warrior with the commodore kai-tana

Boosting the cap for rivals exclusively brings up one problem:

What’s to prevent people from constantly favoring each others rival since they’re stronger than normal guys? Maybe when a rival spawns, the player connected to the rival receives the notification early, and for X minutes only they see the poster. After the headstart time is over, the poster goes public

This won’t hurt bounty hunting that much. People hunt others rivals because they’re level 160, and if they wanna do that just hunt that servers designated level 160 guy. Plus tons of people ignore their rival so you won’t be missing out on every stranger’s rival

Another way to make rivals more interesting is to give them access to rares or even losts at certain levels. Maybe they develop certain rare spells at certain levels, but they will only get one per magic. Also, the losts don’t randomize. If he has surge on his fire magic and Selino on his cannon fist, Everytime he generates he will have a fire surge and cannon fist Selino spell.

For weapons, if they have the same type of weapon as a rare, they might get that rare upon hitting the level range for it. Not every rare is available, like boss drops, but Vindicator, Poison Tooth Dagger, Sunken Sword aren’t unique to a person. For example, if your rival has a great hammer and hits lv80, there’s a chance he will drop it for the vindicator until he outlevels it, where he will go back to using the stock great hammer of his level.

Rivals can only use one rare at a time to prevent them from being so unique no rival is unique. My warrior rivals are really lame, one is a snow conjurer and the other does nothing but throw knives.

All im saying is it’d be more interesting to have “guy with snow javelins and a gun” and “poison tooth knife thrower” than “snow gun guy” and “knife thrower”

why would anyone do that. literally just making your life harder for no benefit
the only reason people tend to hunt other rivals is to allow their own rival to spawn

Reward. You get more money for higher level bounties, and most servers have one max level and one rival who’s probably max level

Ok but the difference is that Kai doesn’t move that much and only has 2 moves, while a Rival can be a god savant with 3k+ health with JUST 160 Cap. People already struggled with even the 130 and the current 160, 200-240 is just too much considering the stuff Rivals can use

There is a reason why people don’t fight the Notoriety Commanders or try to avoid them as much as possible

im having so many normal legal thoughts about you

I never liked the 130 level guys since at max level it was a fight between equals, and since players are smarter than bots it wasn’t that big a threat

Then again maybe I’m just weird because I seem to be the only person who actually liked the Elius fight. Perfect difficulty, not sure what went wrong with Argos, Carina, and Cernyx.

Not all criminals. Maybe have a system where rivals go up to 160, and then level a tiny bit after each rematch, so they don’t instantly jump from 160 to 190 to 240. Maybe after 160 they level to 162 and then 164, since you’ve technically hit the cap already. Maybe even one level a fight after the max

They would stop leveling eventually after all the slow levels

Yeah unfortunately not everyone is the God Warrior that can consistently cheese Kai/Merlot/160 Rivals, and even then those said God Warriors can crack to a 200-240 Rival that can potentially have 5k health with 300-400 damage Axe Throws or Aimbot Guns

I see your point. Maybe make the level max scale with something else? Maybe initially level, so he will never be above 1.3x your level. At lv 125 this would put him at a max of lv160

Then scale off of some indicator of player skill, so your rival will always be a tough fight, but never breeze past you. This could be a rival win/lose ratio, so if he beats you 3 times and you win once, he won’t level up. Only once your win/loss ratio gets to 1.5 will he begin to level above the maximum, and even still, it will be very slowly, one to three at a time

There will be a hard cap, he can never be 1.5x your level even if you beat him 10 times in a row.

It’s important to remember that your rival is part of the world, so they can spawn in various places in the bronze sea, be it limestone to shell.

This means everyone else within the game can / will fight your rival as well. Now imagine a poor level 36 soul trying to collect bananas at Limestone and getting jumped by a level 200+ rival. Just because you can handle your Rival, doesn’t mean that everyone else will be able to as well. Also NPCs with guns are just plain op. Specially dual pistol NPCs.

High level rivals will happen eventually when nimbus and further seas release, so vetex must have some plan for that happening

Maybe lv300+ rivals from the third sea will never appear in the bronze sea, maybe some rivals will ignore people who aren’t their rival that are below half their level. Obviously removing high levels from the bronze sea wouldn’t work here, so I think the idea that if you are way below a rival’s level, they won’t care since you can’t threaten them and they don’t even know you

This will only apply to rivals. If you run into a lv160 nobody on limestone key, he’s gonna kill you.

its already planned that they would eventually use rare+ spells/weapons etc, just not this early on
