So, notes. You’ve probably seen them around, unless you have notes toggled off. You’ve also probably forgotten that placing them is a feature. And if you’re here, you’ve probably seen a photo like one of these:
So, you want to know how to make bank. You want to know how to maybe snag a title or two.
You want to learn How To NOTE!
Luckily for you, you’re in the right place.
So, you want to know how to do this:
Well, a quick summary is that you need to be funny. Yes, I know, I’m sorry, it’s a huge ask for anyone on this forum, but you’re gonna have to try to be a bit funny.
Right, well, we got that out of the way. Ready to place a note?
WRONG! YOU'RE NOT!
There is a LOT that goes into making your note successful, and your pockets heavy. Lesson 1, possibly the simplest, most effective, but least likely thing you can take advantage of, is Timing. What do I mean by this? Basically, if you really want to make a quick few hundred galleons, you’ll want to place your note right after an update. There are a TON of players moving about in lots of areas during these times, especially the new islands, and so you’ll be bound to get a lot of traction, if your note isn’t utter garbage, and it’s not in a bad place.
But what IS a bad place? That’s Lesson 2, and possibly just as influential as Lesson 1: positioning. As they say in Real Estate: The three most important things are Location, Location, Location. It doesn’t matter if your note was written by you selling your soul to the devil for the perfect note, if it’s not PLACED CORRECTLY. If you place it in a cave in some random wilderness island, you’re not getting more than 4 appraisals. The best places to place a note are in High-Traction Areas, like commonly visited NPCs, or generally in High-Visibility Areas. You want people to appraise your note? You need people to SEE your note first. Examples of High-Traction Areas include new islands (tying back into the first Lesson about Timing), peaks of various islands people tend to visit (such as New Islands), and as previously mentioned, NPCs people are likely to visit. Location is key to appraisal.
Lesson 3, and the final Lesson of this guide for now, is Insistence. You think you’ll just place a note immediately and get it right on the first go? Even the perfect note might be placed at an unfortunate time, right before people start revisiting an area, and it’ll expire quickly. What do you do in that case? Place it again! Keep it up! Don’t stop until you win! Unless it’s just an awful spot, eventually you’ll likely get quite a few appraisals (provided you’ve listened to the previous Lesson). You think this happened the first time around?
Of course not! This was the second time I placed the note! The first time, it only got to around 79 appraisals before dying the next day. Keep it up, and you’ll make it eventually.
So, those were the main 3 Lessons on How To NOTE, But they’re not all you can do to go down as a famous face. There’s a few harder-to-use techniques that might help you get a nice few appraisals, though not nearly as much as the Lessons.
The first would be Teamwork. Let’s say you place a note like “Try Climbing”. That’ll probably get 4 appraisals, but what if at the top you place “Good Job”? Now you’ll get quite a few more, as people read both notes and like how the notes led to each other. This isn’t likely to get you too many appraisals, but it’s a start.
The next one is one that disregards Lesson 2: Placing a note by a secret. It’s not the easiest, as many people have the same idea, and may take the space, but it can definitely let you get a good amount of appraisals, provided you heed Lesson 1: hint at a New Island’s secret. This’ll be bound to garner you a hundred or more appraisals before the hype dies down.
And with that,
Good Job
You’ve learned How To NOTE! and can now hopefully contribute to the Notable Note Museum after a few years, once you’ve learned how to be funny.
And don’t you dare steal other people’s notes.
