My AO Backstory (High Effort) and hopefully yours?

I’m genuinely interested in reading some people’s OC backstories so lets hear em!

I’ll start with mine:

Erwen "Iron Steel" Bell

My Warlord file “Iron Steel”:

Erwen Bell, who is famously known as Iron Steel is is a 58 year-old retired explorer. Currently, he is looking for his daughter Stella Bell, known as “Stella Steel”. Stella Bell or her counterpart “Stella Steel” is decently well-known in the Agora papers as a villain. Erwen Bell is attempting to find his daughter in order to set her straight as her father.

The Backstory:

(12 Years-Old)
Erwen Bell was a small boy living on a relatively unknown island in the Dark Sea. Erwen’s father, Drew Bell, is a well-known sailor in the village they lived at who often provided fish for the whole village (very small; around 50 people at most). Erwen was fascinated by his father’s work and always sailed along with him to learn things about the surrounding world.

One night, after sneaking out of his home to look at his father’s ships, Erwen saw a glimpse of light through the dark fog barrier of the Dark Sea. Curious of the light, Erwen attempted to investigate by taking one of his father’s ships (something he was often told not to do). Erwen lowered the sail to get closer to the light, as to investigate it, however something unexpected happened. With a look of horror, Erwen turned to the sail and saw it stuck. Attempting to fix the sail, Erwen struggles in a tug-of-war against the rope to pull the sail up, but alas Erwen fails in this endeavor. With no other ideas, Erwen screamed for his father, who was fast asleep. Erwen’s father did not hear his calls and after hours of screaming, Erwen passed out.

A loud noise knocks Erwen out of his slumber, the boat had crashed into an island. This island, which eventually becomes known as Harvest Island is where Erwen would be living for the next few days. At first, Erwen attempts to look for human life, but the place seems to be barren of any living humans, only the bright smell of trees and seawater surrounded him. Erwen decided that he would harvest for food that he could find. He searched for mushrooms, apples, even pumpkins, and piled them at the crash site. Erwen stayed at Harvest Island for days, rationing out the little food he found. Eventually, two weeks after the crash, Erwen finally spots a ship.

Erwen screams and yells for the ship, which was headed directly towards him. When the ship lands, a well-known hero in the Bronze Sea, Traj, emerges. Traj, seeing the poor state Erwen is in immediately comes to his aid, giving him clean water and nutritional food before even greeting him. After Erwen accepts the food, Traj asks the obvious question of where Erwen came from. Erwen, confused, tells Traj the name of his village, of which Traj has never heard before. Erwen attempts to point to the direction he came from, however he had already completely forgotten. Traj, while confused, invites Erwen to come onto his ship with his crew, who had whole-heartedly welcomed him aboard. Traj decided the best course of action would be to bring Erwen to the Grand Navy and hope they knew where Erwen had come from. To celebrate the temporary guest, the crew begins to play various musical instruments, which intrigues Erwen, who has never heard the sound of music.

On their journey to Silverhold, the Grand Navy’s nearest headquarters, Traj pulls out a map and compass to make sure they are still on course. Erwen, rather excited, exclaims that he wishes to see the map and becomes fascinated after he is allowed to do so. Strangely, he sees that the map is rather basic and is missing many details, such as the island he crashed onto. Erwen asks Traj about the simplicity of the map, and Traj explains to Erwen about the lack of sea explorers. Traj tells Erwen that people would rather find treasure like pirates rather than pursue a “boring life of exploring”. Erwen completely disagrees with Traj’s statement and believes that exploration would be an exciting job. Traj then sees Silverhold in the distance and prepares to dock the ship.

After arriving at Silverhold, Traj brings Erwen to the informant. Traj asks the informant to help find where Erwen came from, which the informant agrees to. Erwen and the informant speak for a while, where Erwen explains his situation, the strange light in the Dark Sea, and the time when he crashed into Harvest Island. The informant comes to the shocking conclusion that Erwen was from beyond the other side of the Dark Sea, and breached through the foggy barrier due to a very rare occurrence of the barrier falling, known as a “Dark Breach”. Both Traj and Erwen were astonished by this information, and questioned that there were other places beyond the Dark Sea’s thick barrier. The informant tells Traj that he should either give Erwen to them so he can be put under protection, or that he could attempt to help Erwen get back to his home. After a lot of thought, Traj eventually decides to help Erwen himself, as he knows that the Grand Navy would only train and use him on the battlefield.

Both Erwen and Traj go back to the ship, still a little shocked. The crew is shocked that Traj still has Erwen, and question his sanity, however Traj states that Erwen will become his disciple, shocking not only the crew but Erwen as well. Erwen, rather surprised, asks Traj if he really meant it, as he had not gone over it with him. Traj, looking down at Erwen, states that Erwen would be training under him until Erwen is strong enough to go look for his village across the Dark Sea. Erwen accepted Traj as his mentor, however he still didn’t understand how strong Traj actually was. Erwen asked Traj on what he would teach him, and Traj told Erwen that he would be learning the fighting style of “Iron Leg”. Erwen, confused on what a fighting style was asked Traj on what it was, leading to Traj showing him. After Erwen experienced Traj’s Iron Leg, he immediately became intrigued and wanted Traj to teach him immediately.

A few years go by:

(17 Years-Old)
(Erwen has trained under Traj for 5 years now and has gotten a basic understanding of Iron Leg)

Erwen, now older and more experienced had become a slightly overconfident crew member. Erwen believes that he is both one of the strongest on the ship due to his mentor Traj, and also believes that he is one of the smartest on the ship due to his research and fascination of maps and the world. His beliefs quickly change however, when Traj tells Erwen that he will take his final test, actual battle experience. Traj tells Erwen that he will go to Munera Garden, an Island well-known for its fights and duels. The crew gets excited and starts to play music in celebration, however Erwen looks worried. Erwen felt that he was strong, but he had never fought someone before. Erwen had seen Traj beat up pirates and assassins, but Traj never told him how he did it. Traj, knowing that Erwen was nervous, attempted to calm him down by telling him it would only be a mock match and that he wouldn’t get injured. Erwen then calmed down, and they headed for Munera Garden.

When arriving at Munera Garden, they heard cheering noises and loud crashes. Apparently, two notable and well-known heroes “Frank the Giant” and “Re’anna the Wrecker” were having a duel.

I’m gonna stop writing here but the rest of the story is basically:

Erwen eventually leaves Traj, going to find out more about the world.
(Erwen still doesn’t find his father :frcryin:)
Erwen learns how to use weapons through another mentor (dunno who).
Erwen eventually becomes well-known as an explorer and goes under the alias “Iron Steel”.
Later in life after exploring most of the Bronze Sea finds Harvest Island again and meets a young Sarlovèze (Iron Leg Mentor) and teaches him about Iron Leg.
Erwen eventually meets his wife (dunno name) and has a child who they named Stella Bell.
Stella eventually leaves home and becomes a villain known as “Stella Steel” taking after her father.
Erwen, disappointed in Stella, goes on a journey to find her, promising his wife to bring her back.
Erwen joins the guild “Sailor’s Symphony” after a long time of retirement and becomes the oldest member there.

Also, this was written a few months ago but I got bored of writing lol (darn writer’s block).
If I made a dumb mistake in here please tell me so I can fix it :fr:

This is pretty darn good, I like the style. But what do you mean by ‘hopefully yours?’ in the title?

oh i meant that i hoped people would post their own backstories as well, i guess that wasn’t clarified that great lol (im a bit tired :fr:)

these people hate typing long texts unless they need to prove other person wrong (and fail mizerably because this is just a game and everything is up to vetex)
i alredy gave up on trying to teach forumers how to write essays

might as well post my two new files here in a bit, again, good stuff

That’s a pretty good backstory, I wonder if we’ll ever find out which island Erwen is from when the dark seas release?

Also really like how he ties in with Sarlovèze, maybe he also taught him how to farm pumpkins while he was there in Harvest so he can feed any one else who ends up stranded there? Feels like something Erwen would do.

Anyways, here’s my little tidbit of backstory for now:

Sadly only have 3 chapters worked out for now.

strong textOkay, sure.

Erwin Atrel, “The Killing Wind”.

Details

Erwin Atrel is a depressed bounty hunter and failed writer. He typically dislikes taking pictures, which is why the only picture you would be able to find of him is his assassination contract. It’s a good picture, which might lead you to asking a question, but I warn you not to.

The chances are, it’s the wrong one.

It wasn’t always like this. In fact, when Erwin was a child, he was rather cheerful.

Erwin was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. Among the few Frostmill Nobles, he lived in a large house on top of a small hill that overlooked the rest of the town. It was the most expensive house in Frostmill, a part of other houses which used to be called the Noble Neighborhood.

How ironic. Anywho, Erwins parents, after obtaining their title, went on a spending spree, leaving Erwin with his sister and his nanny.

You don’t need to know their names. Erwin spent a lot of time reading books, which is actually an attractive trait, and that lead him to start writing stories of his own.

It was unfortunate, because Erwin was a genuinely good writer. It was unfortunate… because not long after Erwin sold out his first patch of literature, a group of mercenaries came and burned down the Noble Neighborhood. His sister and his nanny were inside of the house, and he lost them.

Even though he read somewhere that blowing air on a fire is a bad idea, and instead it would be wise to find an authority figure to pour water on said fire, Erwin found himself trying to blow the fire away.

He tried so hard that he awakened his Wind magic. However, he didn’t feel very ecstatic. Few people would be happy if they suddenly obtained magical power after finding their closest family members dead.

After this incident, his writing surprisingly didn’t take a hit in quality, instead, took a nosedive in positivity.

It became grey. Depressing. Disappointing, some would say. In fact, here are the words of an obscure but still critical critic:

“Erwin Atrels latest novel, ‘Castaway the Somber Skies’, was depressing, disappointing, grey and somber. Filled with gut wrenching plot twists and extremely saddening endings to each chapter. Why would anyone want to be reminded of the sad, depressing reality of life? Nobody would ever read such a book, not willingly. I can see his literature being used a form of torture, but not as a form of entertainment of information. I don’t think I can read another page, I may burst into tears and leap into the nearby ocean to end this monotone, monochrome life!”

  • An obscure, but still critical critic, Pierre Ketch. Despite what he said in the last sentence, he in fact did find himself reading another page, and was last seen leaping into a nearby ocean.

He did not come back.

They say murder is the best coping mechanism.

The same mercenaries that burned down Erwin’s home came back to take him away. They wanted to make Erwin one of them, and they taught him the art of killing. He showed promise, and became a bounty hunter for the mercenaries.

One day, Erwin was having a genuinely good day. He hadn’t had a mental breakdown for weeks, and that day he had realized this fact, and indulged in some writing.

However, before he finished his latest novel, he stumbled upon some extremely important top secret documents, which said something about his parents being in a secret organization and taking part in some repulsive crimes that I cannot mention at this time.

Conflicted, Erwin left the mercenary group and killed anyone that followed him. According to the document, the mercenaries thought that Erwin’s parents were inside of the home, since they were due to come back that day, but a fact they had missed was they were generally irresponsible parents.

He became a lone wolf, writing books even though they never really did exceptionally well, and bounty hunting.

After a while, he joined a clan known as the Naval Bank.

A reminder of the good times.

The Naval Bank is a fragment of what used to be a large clan known as Naval. Now, there is only one other person in the clan, Erwin, and the other, the leader of the clan, Box.

It’s a bounty hunting and banking clan, which surprisingly makes it a good money maker. Sadly, it’s potential is wasted due to it only housing two members.

Now he lives on a ship next to Munera Garden. He’s still very cynical, but at least things are looking brighter for Erwin Atrel.

it’s a backstory what did you expect bro

ya, grammatically correct, no mistakes

“Sura glad that sicko is serving his time”

I kinda feel like I could have done better, way better with this backstory. It feels kind of lazy.

The Story

Born aboard an Ironclad ship from unknown origin to a Blacksmith father and a Guard mother. After the ship was wrecked, killing all except John Booth and his father, who suffered from amnesia due to blunt force trauma in the wreck, they managed to find their way to Mount Othrys. After John Booth grew enough, he ventured to Ravenna. With what skills his father taught him, he made a business at Rubica. However, after his father died, he quit and decided on becoming a sell-sword, or rather, sell-gun. With his skills he crafted his own weapons. His musket, “Barret”, his two flintlocks, “Smith & Wesson”, and his shield, “Aegis”. With leftover Galleons he purchased his first vessel, a sailboat which he named the Maxim, and joined a mercenary company.

After a few years, he left the group and bought a Ketch, which he called the Maxim, and took contracts directly. Unfortunately, a great near-apocalyptic occurred. When it happened, Booth was at sea seeking the remains of the Ironclad he was born on as well as doing contract work far from the Bronze Sea. By the time he came back, he had a Ketch with more holes that sails and a destroyed home. He settled at Palo Town, helping rebuild. There were plenty of pirates ready to ransack the poor town. During one of these attacks on the town, John fought alongside the Grand Navy. He also used unorthodox methods like throwing light cannonballs he made specially for that purpose. He taught a castaway how to do so, in exchange for free repairs to his ship. That castaway learned how to use heavier cannonballs while still delivering devastating strikes. After all of this and the Navy regrouping, John left for work.(end)

I still don’t know if I’ll actually use cannon fist or boxing for the build, since CF doesn’t have good imbuement and Boxing is low level.

baltic fleet lore???

Ah yes, here we have Erwen, and also Erwin. :skull:

Anyways I love the story, haven’t been on the forums recently sorry lol.

We will see :eyes:

Yeah that seems like a good idea, once I feel like writing again I’ll include that once it gets to that part in the story!

Most of my characters have backstories from my own universe and are OCs I use in everything but I guess I could work on creating a backstory for one of them set into the AO Universe. MAgic Irradiation works for great plot hooks.

bumping the thread just bc
