Introducing Myself
When I saw the rant posted by Vetex I immediately knew that it has the potency to be aimed at people like me, who are involved in the PvP side of the community alongside previously owning a Large Clan. Despite this, I still consider myself a mix of both PvE and PvP, which may seem rather contradictory to what I’ve just informed you of, but trust me, I think my perspective will be somewhat insightful, and hopefully unique, as I tackle the topics discussed in the rant from my point of view.
I have a tendancy to group the perceived toxicity within the PvP side of the community to have a correlation with PvPers who are in Clans, despite how much I advocate for this to be merely a rumour spread by paranoid PvE Players, it’s very much the case.
If you're living under a rock, here's what Vetex said.
What AO’s PvP has done for me
I created Neptune countless fucking years ago, and I think I’ve already made a topic explaining the whole story of how that clan came to be.
From around Summer 2023, I began recruiting members who were more interested in PvP than me, and hence much better than me, two of those being blomiblomez & mschvious, whom of which both gave me drive to start PvP’ing in Arcane Odyssey, which ultimately made me gain the attention of more players in the community who would help Neptune grow, and become very good friends of mine.
I think the most important thing to take away from the end of that paragraph is that PvPing on Arcane Odyssey indirectly led me to make some really close friendships with various people, a lot of which I don’t even play AO with anymore, but they’re involved in other areas of my life. My clan peaked at ~110 Members and #1 on Leaderboard, I’m bound to find people who get along well with me, and that wouldn’t have happened if I didn’t start 1v1’ing people at Munera Garden, attending and taking part in Clan Circus gladiators, and attending events by other big EU clans (namely Apollo’s Dominion & White Lotus at the time) to befriend other people who’re better than me.
I recall saying in a post about the balance team that people hate Clans & PvP because they’re not involved in it, yeah, being ganked fucking sucks, and there’s gonna be people who’re bitchy beyond belief about it, but that isn’t the “community”, that’s someone taking out their frustration on you in a game for their own self pleasure, and is in no way shape or form a reflection of the entire of Arcane Odyssey’s PvP Community, if it was such a toxic shithole, I’m sure that people like me, and anyone else who’s in a bigger clan, or is friends with notable people within the PvP Sect would not get along with each other as well as I myself view it.
Discussing Vetex’s Rant
I think the first thing I ought to state is a thank you to Vetex for understanding that PvP, despie being something he isn’t too bothered about, is still an aspect of the game that people (like myself & various friends) play the game for.
As for his statement on the Roblox Community getting more Toxic, is it not just that it’s gotten significantly bigger, and that the amount of toxic people has increased proportionally? I can’t speak much on his previous projects, I was very young when I played Arcane Adventures (I believe I was 9?), but the threshold for a Roblox Game to be considered ‘big’ or ‘successful’ in the eyes of a game’s audience has increased tremendously, we’ve seen Roblox Games get into 6 Digit Player counts, and I believe Arcane Odyssey peaked at 5 Digits, whilst I presume AA hitting 5 Digits wouldn’t be so common, even after an update. The platform has grown, and the amount of toxic people has grown with it, and that’s without attempting to count in that toxic people are going to influence the people around them.
I think Vetex started his rant off pretty well with this, and I understand where he’s coming from entirely.
I’ve never been the biggest fan of the Balance Team anyways, yeah they have good additions every now and then, but at the end of the day, it’s Vetex’s Game, and it’s in Vetex’s vision, and people need to understand that. The closest we’re getting to a combat focused update is probably Clan Building, purely due to the fact that we can gain Infamy from hunting players, and I think that’s more than sufficient to please the PvP Community, who’s replayability has always been from making new files to test out new metas & combinations.
I haven’t watched @archrono’s Youtube Video on the AO Testers yet (and I probably should’ve before writing this), but I think a lot of the community think that being given Tester is the equivalent to some sort of Arcane Odyssey Nepotism. I think there’s close to nobody who stands out as a candidate for tester regardless, and the only potential change I could ever come to think of regarding the Tester Team is that, surely they should be responsible for Balancing? Having a foresight into bugged features & future additions could speed up balancing, and guess what? That’s already been a thing, before Surge was added, it was stated in the patch notes that it was doing too much damage in TU, so it got nerfed. Let the testers do their shit and just enjoy the updates they contributed to deliver.
Conclusion
I wanted to make a much longer post but I don’t think that would do much good, as I feel as if I’ve talked about the parts that stood out to me, and why I like PvP within Arcane Odyssey. I also had to type this pretty quickly because I’m busy later today so if my english doesn’t make sense, give me an @ and I’ll edit my post.
To conclude, vetex you’re a goat man and I’m happy that you’re not being swayed by the pushy, arrogant, toxic & bitchy side of the community I will glaze you until the end of time.
