Optimization Update Patch Notes (Discussion Thread)

Honestly, was there a single tester that actually likes this new feature?

Vetex: I’m listening to my testers guys!!! !!! !!!

I have one of 0.5 and I’ve already made one of 0.1. In my experience, I’ve never been able to make a 200 defense decimal.

i think for this feature to work it should kind of be like sharpening your sword in monster hunter - you have to intentionally make yourself vulnerable, but after that you’ll deal the same amount of damage again.

for that to work, there should be three things:

  1. damage buildup should be very visible
  2. repair kits should be stronger (maybe able to fix everything with one repair at the cost of being a bit more expensive/hard to get) (or maybe they just shouldn’t be consumables?)
  3. the repair kit should be a tool in your hotbar that automatically fixes your equipped items, prioritizing the ones with the highest ep, instead of something you click in your inventory

I feel that adding a “quick-repair” feature is the best idea and choice, and I believe it will be implemented, since having to open a pop-up can really take a long time; my previous system took 3 seconds to load anything.

Perhaps the quick use, as I said, prioritizes certain stats but heals very little, so you would need to use, for example, 3 clicks to use it 3 times to heal an item 3 times until it is fully repaired.

Could there perhaps be a “heavy” variation where we use the item with a UI pop-up, but it guarantees protection. So he would use the heavy buff and wouldn’t break down in a scenario where he would actually break down.

So both the quick and heavy use . (Although most would still prefer to have 1000 quick uses)

I think so as well, but strictly in a UI sense - making it apply to the player model would be a more interesting detail, but it’d tie it to vanity even further.

I think the current implementation (need 1 for every 100 value) is better as a drachma sink, and could make the feature more convenient if you could repair early without losing value. e.g. if an item is 50% on the way to being damaged, you repair it for 50% of the value in repair kits. Making them non-consumable would remove the benefit of them being drachma sinks.

No, I only fused painites with themselves

Thats my category. I started that :frcryin:

This is just another in a long line of features people don’t like and then pick up torches about, which will ultimately, amount to nothing unfortunately. Vetex is vehement about never removing stuff he adds. Only tweaking it. Never think I’ve seen him actually remove an unpopular feature. I argued with him for like half an hour on Beast Defense before just getting shut down with a ‘its never being removed’.

Talked with an old contributor about this (not name dropping them, they wouldn’t want to be in drama from a community they basically left). AO definitley has a feature creep problem. Adding stuff purely for the sake of it instead of stopping to think about how it impacts the player.

What was wrong with just adding Dragons and then the dragonblood stuff? This side stuff is wildly unpopular, and the general consensus in the ‘inner circle’ is that no non-tester opinions matter until they play with it and ‘see that its not so bad’. A lot of us tried to tell Vetex to not even bother wasting time adding it and we all got shut down too saying that we were making a fuss over nothing.

To try and temper the overall hate, I was told that Dragons will be quite lucrative to hunt, and armor break was added to prevent people from just ‘living’ in the dark sea hunting dragons. Thats it, thats the reason.

I then complained that this is major feature bloat for one very specific type of enemy to do this, so then sea monsters/animals of a high enough tier also got it.

And this is what it all comes back to, right? What’s the purpose of it at the end of the day. If its so easy I can avoid it with a couple clicks, why even bother having it at all? If its too annoying, it ruins the player experience, but if its too easy to avoid, theres really not a point to it, and there is no perfect sweet spot for things like this.

This is especially a thing about awakenings, he has stated on multiple occasions that awakenings will NEVER get tweaked, which means that Warrior’s awakening will permanently be the least interesting.

Even for adding things that give solutions to major problems; Prometheus’ Acrimony, Hecate Essence, both of these were added to allow the player to change their playstyle, I haven’t heard how he feels about the Prometheus’ Acrimony, but I have heard that he was really annoyed at adding the Hecate Essence due to the fact he wants the players to stick with what they’ve chosen rather than considering the player’s experience.

It would be optimal to add Dragons, Dragonblood ritual and Rainspire so live players have a chance on seeing how Full Release would’ve looked if it was given more time, the extra things - at least in my opinion - are to fill the “requirement” to call it a major update, the previously mentioned three features does likely not fit the “requirement” at Vetex’s point of view.

No offense to Vetex, but he doesn’t take criticism well; especially from the people he himself sees as testers for his product, by definition he needs to listen you your feedback regardless on if its good or bad.

Do they grant more Drachma than Fleets do? I get around about 12k each 20 minutes, only spending a few thousand on repairs with a total profit of 10k.

Vetex is a fantastic developer, that’s nearly an axiom that has to be considered when speaking about his issues, however, that doesn’t mean he is awful at game design, there are far too many problems to just pile up in the “Oh, that’s just how it is.” corner, things need to change, even if it causes the creator to be a bit pissed.

realism

no like im really sure thats the only reason, we clown on him for fun a lot of he’s legit obssessed with realism and lore-accurate

Are we to blame the inventor for the crimes commited with his invention, or those who used those inventions to commit crimes?

This just in, we added the features from the popular forum thread:

“Definitley don’t add these features they would ruined the game’“

Amazing, can we also get Book that kills people from the beloved anime Nobody should be given the Book that kills people next?

sucks man, not to throw hate on vetex but i do think its a fair criticism to say he has an ego problem, he shuts criticism and genuine concern very fast from what i saw, he genuinely acts in bad faith (the name change event, yes people were toxic but lets be honest, vetex didnt come in with the idea to fix the stuff or understand or calm down the waters)

Fair enough.

he has a tendency to disregard and ignore obvious outcomes… and the people outright telling him those same obvious outcomes.

vetex logic:
“I don’t think its that bad so nobody will think its that bad when they actually experience it”

not-vetex logic:
“brother why is this guy screwing me over now I’m mad at him”

I know this isn’t your fault so please don’t take it that way.

Vetex doesn’t us to live in the dark seas…? Okay we all ready can’t. As you know the very important thing to travel in that stupid place, our boats. They can’t last forever there. Plus if repair kits are as common as he says I will flat out never believe him as he’s 100% going spam this feature like %dmg and major injuries but repair kits come from chests. What do you get a lot of from the dark seas, chests . So like I said this is st best s useless feature which means he wasted dev time to make his game objectively worse and at worse is showing he’s willing to murder his game adding content after content that no one wants which will eventually push everyone away.

Vetex should honestly just quit ngl. Nothing about what he does really says he wants to make a game. He always talks about lore, books, blah blah blah which is pretty garbage in its own right but go do it vetex! Just go write the silly AO books so I can see the bad AO writing in paper

I said it before I’ll say it again there’s literally zero reason to use any stat other than power after this. Defense means literally nothing as everything is gaining %dmg I doubt NPCs are far behind. Armor break is limited now but I know for fact it won’t be, look how he spams story injuries. Remember fighting Phoenix man with 25% of your health gone forever? I do. Then went to half after so you literally can’t do anything since you’re as durable as a piece of paper. Everyone needs to run just power as this will become who can kill who faster otherwise you risk armor breaking

ok we’ve descended into doomposting here.
story injuries are not spammed and they last a set time, they are a nonissue.
just go do something that doesn’t involve combat for a few minutes if its too debilitating for you to continue the story.

people are right to fee frustrated, crimson brought an actual problem and people have the right to complain and say how they feel about

not what i said, coming in bad faith doesnt mean coming in swearing and being mad at someone
