Problems with AO

1. Why are we forced to wait for potions in order to reset stats? Why not just have a temporary method of reseting your stats and awakening? If I want to try out a new build, then I have to make a completely new file and redo the storyline, which will take 10+ hours to make and refine.

Why are we forced to make a new file if we want to change our primary magic? Why aren’t we able to change it?

So you’re telling me that later when the level cap is 300 — I might have to spend 30+ hours to make a new file, completely redo the storyline, level up that character, simply because I wanted to try a out new build or magic?

Am I a fucking machine or something?

2. Storyline should not have level caps, highly experienced gamers will understand this.

Also level progression is so many times cancer.

true story

Oh wow, a level cap before I get to Ravenna storyline. Shouldn’t be too hard right?

I’m going to try fishing, oh wait, after 30 minutes for some reason I’m not getting exp.

Oh well, I’ll try to complete some quests. It’ll take a while because I can only do one quest at time, because I can’t abandon my Redwake quests.

No quests available yet at Sailor’s Lodge. Fuck… the most exp is from Palo Town Banana Merchant, oh well…

For fucks sake, there aren’t enough bananas on the island and I have to wait for more to spawn. Nevermind that, instead i’ll find castaways and trade cargo.

Oh fuck, I barely have enough money for 3 crates. Atleast I’ll be able to save some castaways…

Not a single castaway for 10 minutes, oh well I’ll just turn in these crates…

Rough seas spawns directly on top of me, my boat sinks.

I haven’t leveled up ONCE in 1 hour.

3. Fast travel and Permanent Spawns — atleast between towns and kingdoms, like Cirrus Island…

No this won’t defeat the purpose of boats.

Name a single person who hasn’t wasted an total of 1 hour just trying to get to some place. No, I don’t give a shit about hunting pirates and collecting/trade cargo — I just want to get to fucking Redwake to finish a quest, because I can’t fucking delete it.

4. Boss droprates…

Atleast have a guaranteed drop the first time you kill a boss.

Nearly everyone I’ve been around was complaining about droprates, then someone from the opposite side says 1/7 chance get good. Truth is, many people are having a horrible experience getting the gear they want — sometimes killing a boss 30 times, but not a single drop.

Yeah go ahead, tell that person it’ll only take 10 minutes to get atleast 1 drop. You probably already have all the gear you need because you went no-life on AO — even worse, whenever a poor player complains about droprates, the people who’ve already no-lifed boss gear all experience a collective orgasm because having a rare virtual item over others was enough justify “1/10 chance, you’re just malding.”

5. Quests. Why am I not allowed to abandom my quests, I have 4 quests all the way at Redwake, and you’re telling me I have to spend 30 minutes just to clear out these shitty quests?

6. Enchanting. So you’re telling me that I have to spend hours wasting 5k galleons trying to get the enchant that I want? Oh wait there’s another option, but I also have to spend hours trying to get that particular enchant scroll, or just maybe never get it at all.

7. Oh boy I can finally get over 20+ fps today.

Its so fun whenever an explosion spell permanently reduces your fps by -5.

Regarding visual effects of weapon/magic abilities. It would help if the visuals of magics were changed to be less laggy. ROBLOX servers are already bad enough, I don’t need another 5 seconds added to my input lag.

8. PvE.

I’ve tried reacting and predicting. Very rarely you have a clean fight against an NPC. Due to factors like ping, buggy no cooldown NPCs, etc.

Many times whenever you use a spell against a powerful NPC you’re praying that NPC won’t use an attack that takes out 50% of your health.

A significant part to defeating powerful NPCs and bosses is the stat checking. There isn’t much rhythm to PvE most of the time, just an orgy of death.

TDLR: Many times AO just pointlessly wastes your time. There are a good number of unnecesssarily tedious things, at this point I don’t really bother anymore.

I can’t play 4+ hours like I used to, it feels like the game almost requires you to spend 2+ hours to make any decent progress.

At this point its obvious AO isn’t something to play casually. This being the case, I don’t have much reason to be playing this game. I still like this game a lot however.

6 of these can easily be dealt with, but if that doesn’t happen, so be it, I can always move on to other things.

Final Edit: I’ve completely supported AO from the beginning, and still want whats best for the game. This is also the last game I’ve ever planned on playing, and I merely wanted to see what the game was like before decided to quit games for good.

Due to my experiences within the game itself, and by observing some of the toxic feedback of the game’s community members themselves — I’ve ultimately decided completely cut myself off from AO.

Of course some of you will be happy to hear this, because obviously many of you are petty. I know since I’ve been there and done that myself.

Anyways, good luck everyone and good bye.

you get exp from fishing whenever you catch a new fish

why not just complete the quests

i’m sorry, but if you can’t level once in an hour i don’t know what else it could be other than a skill issue or actively refusing to do activities that give exp

There is a way to reset stats, every file receives a free stat reset usable before level 80. The reason stat reset potions aren’t in the game is because it’s early access and there wasn’t enough time to add them. They’re still a priority update though, and will be added in the first major update which is coming soon.

Magic reset potion, once again something that’ll be coming with potions.

This was most likely done to prevent underleveled players from complaining about difficulty even though they’re underlevelled, and even with the required level’s it’s still a very prominent complaint. I understand why it may be frustrating to have the requirements but imo they’re really overexaggerated, it’s not hard to get exp or level up by doing things other than story.

you gain exp from every new fish caught

Redwake quests are tiny and take a few minutes to complete, I understand the overall point of not being able to abandon quests though

Sky islands & palo town each have a decent amount of quests, fighting style quests give a significant amount of exp, and things other than quests such as exploration tasks & treasure charts give exp as well

If something like flight was removed for eclipsing boats then fast travel definitely won’t be added, setting spawns is a reasonable one though

1 hour is crazy, are you still using a rowboat

Boss drops are fine imo, a lot more forgiving than most games I’ve played. I’m not exactly against a pity system but I also don’t think it needs one

Yeah there’s no downside to adding Abandoning quests not rlly sure why it’s not a thing, redwake quests hardly take any effort or time though

The problem of rng enchants was brought down with enchant scrolls and disenchanting. If you don’t have the enchant scroll you want, you can pretty easily trade for it with scrolls and other items

Going block by block here:

  1. I also have asked why we can’t reset primary magics- if we are getting lost magics in the future, which will let us change out to a better magic- if fightiing style users can swap out their styles, why can’t magic users do it? Everyone’s arguments boil down to ‘lore reason’ or ’ people will meta chase’, two very weak arguments, however, people say it’s gonna be a thing down the line, so just a bit of patience on that part.

  2. Storyline should have level caps- there should just be a more organic way of getting TO those levels other then grinding quests/cargo.

  3. Vetex already confirmed there just isn’t going to be fast travel, You can set your spawn with camps and reset and that’s the closest we’ll get to fast travel.

  4. I also find the boss drop-rates silly. However, you also have to realize that there is no other end game content right now other then farming bosses/the sealed chest drops. I hope these rates are greatly increased once they become irrelevant by level cap increases.

  5. Vetex said “Just finish it”

  6. Just another way to draw out late game content, don’t know what else to say. Keeps people from getting meta builds too fast/keeps em playing longer.

  7. Yeah idk what causes the fps drops, it’s mostly on older servers though. Like on an older server whenever I punch I get a biblical drop in frames.

  8. Only boss npcs really have mechanics for PVE enjoyers.

Right now the best way to level is just do cargo runs from ravenna to frostmill. It’s long, slow, boring, but if you got cash on hand it’s gonna give you way more exp then any of the other options.

Some of these complaints are valid. Performance, quest-abandoning, and spawn setting on story islands are all big ones and i’ll give you that. Everything else you said is either ridiculous (AO having unforgiving boss drop rates? What?), will never be added (fast travel), or will be addressed in the future (the ability to change your magic/stat reset potion).

Also,

No way…

1 hour is all it took for me to get from 30-40 on my first go-round. Its def a level slump, no disagreement there. But if you couldn’t level up in the span of an hour that’s a skill issue m8

then get there, you have a map, compass, and map marker to guide you

He’s not complaining about navigation, but rather time and distance. If he is still at the point where level caps are bothering him and he’s trying to level up- then you have to realize he doesn’t have the best possible ketch with max speed upgrades, he probably has a sailboat that is chipping years off his life as he crosses the map.

And it is there I can certainly see why it would bother him how long it takes to get anywhere. Sailboats are SLOW.

even with a sailboat it’d only take like 10 minutes max, tho it is annoying having the spawn at the bottom of the map if you want to go up

@sock
@SavageWind

Name any method of gaining experience. I’ll tell you why it didn’t work during that play session. You guys are judging without actually knowing what happened.

sealed chests, side quests, exploration tasks

Alright, I’ll give it a shot here:

Cargo Running & Quest Grinding

Just gonna assume cargo takes too long/you got sunk and there were other people at the quest area you were at.

  • exploration tasks
  • sealed chests
  • quests
  • treasure charts
  • fishing, unless you’ve caught majority of fish
  • cargo

Had a sailboat, not enough gear to sink pirate ships.

Literally fastest exp quest I could do was banana merchant and I had to sail to Palo town, which took a long time, because of my situation. More details could be brought up about that.

Already completed exploration tasks that I could complete. Sailing to Mount Othrys would’ve been unreasonable.

was your ship damaged?

Now there’s a problem that I have. Early game ship repairs cost an arm a leg, you mother and your dog it’s damn near impossible to keep them in tip top shape.

Exploration, I would’ve had to sail to Mount Othrys.

Sealed chests, had sail boat not enough gear.

Quests, literally no quests at Sailor’s Lodge.

Treasure Charts, I must’ve collected like 20 scroll chests not a single one.

Fishing, enough said.

Cargo, no money, my 3 crates got sunk when rough seas spawned on me.

how, it’s like a guaranteed drop, ig that’s just really unlucky

What level are you?

There are exploration tasks on every island

Server was buggy as shit I didn’t know at that time, so there were like 0 castaways I could’ve turned in. Literally anything you can think of I’ve tried it.

Scroll chests don’t give treasure charts until you are a certain level.
