A place to call your own.

Ever came back from a hard day at the sea? The thundering storms and pirate encounters making what was to be a simple trip a Heraclean Labor. You know… Sometimes you just need some time away from the sea to regain your footing.

Even pirates need some time off ever so often, right?

Here, i present to you:

The Housing System

First, why?
With the empires update, housing might seem a little redundant. But they do have some advantages:

  • Stability: Once you have your house, as it is protected by an island government, it cannot be taken by force! (It’s still as destructible as any other house structure, being repaired a few minutes after like any other house in ravenna)
  • Customization: You would be able to furnish it at will, provided that you have the galleons required to do so.
  • Utility: among the furniture you can find a caldron, a jewelry bench, a cooking station among other stuff.
  • Spawn point: gives you a more stable spawn point on whichever island you decide to settle in.

Second, how?
First problem you may think of is server compatibility. How will you have a player house if houses can overlap? What if two playes own the same house?

Well, it’s simple actually: Don’t!
What i’m offering is, quite frankly, much easier to deal with.

Enter: House Permits

You arrive at your desired island, head to the housing department and, after a long and arduous process of background checking and financing (2 clicks lol) you’re finally ready to own a house. Which one? All of them!! (Disclaimer, only 1 one at a time)

Housing permits work as follow:
  • You can buy a housing permit for any island that has a house. Shacks like the one founnd in Wind Row can count as housing, provided that the island is under the government of one of the leading factions of the game.
  • Islands that can be conquered cannot hold houses, as it would clash with the empire system
  • Permit prices vary depending on the island. Maybe bigger islands like Sameria and Ravenna have 2 or 3 permits depending on the area you want to live on. Ravenna for example has 3 livable areas of varying qualities.
  • Once you acquired a permit, you can pick any vacant house on the island/area.
  • Inside your house you have a similar build menu to the empire system, where you can place furniture to your heart’s content, provided that you have enough money.
  • Whenever you change servers, your previous house will be vacant. Whenever you join another server, you’ll be able to re-select a house inside that island.
  • if the newly selected house has the same layout as your old one, it’ll keep the same layout. If the layout doesn’t match, it’ll refund your furniture so you can redecorate it.

And to close it all off:

Special Features!

Houses could hold some furnitures with special funcions, such as:

  • A bed that, on rest, gives you a buff, slowing down food consumption for an in game day (resting time would be literally the time to get up and grab a glass of water, stay hydrated folks!)
  • A bathing room that can remove almost any effect (so that you can run tests and stuff, as well as get rid of unwanted effects)
  • A special oven that allows you do slot one more item (or alternatively, a couple of cooking benches, each that buff a different type of food, like the oven buffing vegetables, a skillet buff8ng fishes etc)
  • A wardrobe that can hold cosmetics loadout for quick swap (so as to not conflict with the loadout gamepass)

Among other things…

for those who have seen my other posts, this postface is meant to say that this post is not to my standard. Had i the time, were i at home, i’d garnish this post with visual references and mockups but right now i just can’t… Either way, i wanted to put this idea out because i believe it would be a great addition to the roleplay side of the game that Vetex seems to like working on

Additionally, i just want to say that the crystal orb spirit weapon falls well within the ideas i had preached about a while back. I won’t claim to have any effect on that, but i’m happy wuth the direction spirit weapons are taking so far

Not too bad of an idea, but doesn’t a brigade already serve this purpose? Additionally, if you want to live at the house you have to be stationary at one island and AO is all about exploration. Also, it doesn’t really make sense that some towns would harbor a villian and that the marines can’t confiscate your house, seeing as the marines are a lot stronger force than the local island government

Thanks for the feedback!

  • Stationary: Yeah, the idea of the house is to be stationary to some extent. It would be a place you’d come back to from time to time, like in between trips. It’s your endgame’ish outpost that doesn’t demand you to own or to be a part of a clan. There will always be this part of the gameplay where, aside from the dark seas, everything is already known. And the stationary nature of a house isn’t in any way opposing the need for exploration or adventure.
  • Villains: i forgot to mention on the post, mostly because i was afraid of making it too big without any pictures. You can’t buy a housing permit on an area you are an enemy to. That means you can’t have a house in regions that oppose your reputation (so have a shack in whitesummit for example), and you can’t buy a house in regions you’re an enemy in lore (such as ravenna main city. To some extent i think you should be able to own a house in the poor side of ravenna since it is slept on by its government).
  • marine: if you wanna have a marine player come confiscate your house feel free to advocate for it, but idk what good it would do you. The idea here is to be a base system outside of pvp competition.

I won’t talk about brigades because i’ve been out of the loop for a while so i’m not following every patch note. If you want to explain what they are i’d be happy to read!

Though by the name i’d think it has to do with boats, and my idea is to have a place to call your own that’s less remote

kid called empires update:

Ngl, i had this idea watching the arcane odyssey version of this meme by “J0KER” on youtube

its free real estate
cant wait for the inflation

I bought a property in Sameria, and what they do for you is, they giveyoutheproperty…

I think it’d be neat to collect different types of furniture or special items to decorate the house with. Like finding a unique piece of furniture in 1 island and then another type of furniture piece in the dark sea for example. Could also apply to base building when it comes to island claiming and use those furniture pieces there. Cool idea brodie.

I love the idea of collecting it by exploring. Kinda like how you’d find blueprint for ship parts on sealed chests.

I only suggested as is cause when i’m making a suggestion, one of the guidelines i set for myself is to build on top of preexisting systems whenever possible. It’s way easier to convey an idea when you use what’s already in game, and i think it sounds more appealing to the developers as well since they can reutilize assets already in place.

Thanks for the feedback btw!

Suggestion Denied
Reason: Too hard to script and breaks the idea of exploring if you’re only staying inside.

Okay, now I’m being serious. Please add this, I really want to stay in certain place to admire the view of every place

Very cool but i do still wonder, why would a city harbor a villain that is a threat to the people.
I’d say that you could be denied service in certain places because of town alignment (if this doesn’t end up being added, then uh idk, just make more criminal towns like Blackwater Grotto)

I’ve answered this on an earlier comment. Should add to the main post tbh…

You wouldn’t be able to buy a housing permit on areas you are declared an enemy. So islands with a different reputation alignment or islands you’re a fugitive in lore such as Ravenna.

Changing your reputation shouldn’t revoke your permit tho, unless you cross a threshold. (Like, you would only lose your permit if you went beyond 5k rep/bounty). Reason for this is so you can farm stuff like commodore’s saber without having to rebuy your permit. The threshold is more of a commitment thing. So you could buy a permit and then change your reputation so it wont match the island, but you wouldn’t be able to go far without having to buy another one somewhere else

And of course the moment you become a fugitive in ravenna your permit is revoked in any island allied to the bronze legion

Hmmm, alright, what about Grand Navy controlled settlements like Palo Town, are all kingdoms considered GN allied?

Simplify it
Grand navy is “good” aligned. You need to have good rep to live in palo town

When i say alignment, i’m talking about “hero/villain”.

I see, well thanks then, my mage and berserker will be homeless then

Not necessarily, there’s windrow which is not aligned as far as i recall. There’s whitesummit and other ill aligned islands both in the bronze and nimbus seas. And even if there aren’t living spaces there rn, it’s not like they couldn’t add some housing there if they were to go forward with this idea

With all due respect, i feel like you’re just nitpicking at this point… Any reason behind it?
