the line that morden said when the gang leave for the nimbus sea was so good… “it was truly an arcane odyssey…”
you know how king calvus acts noble and is generally seen as a wonderful leader to the people of ravenna? imagine how much more of a betrayal it’d be for us. it’d really put it into perspective how nobody could be how they seem.
revon would have probably seen you as an actual friend, which would make calvus’s death even more impactful to him
general julian (who likely would have seen you as an actual ally) would have no idea why you’re suddenly a traitor to ravenna, which would make that.“I FINALLY FOUND YOU!!!” SO much more personal, he could even interrogate you while he’s curbstomping you or while you’re imprisoned
and i get that nobles are different from royalty and military but like…
OH MY GOD IT’D BE SO GOD DAMN COOL
i’ll polish these up a bit to make them look more professional when i get home, i don’t want my addon to be disregarded solely because of improper grammar and my screaming
I’d like to kind of add onto Warm Water and Night’s suggestions. As well as my own ideas for other parts of the story
I don’t think it would be a great idea to have the player go and meet the entire royal family all at once. But I do have ideas that will still add more impact to the order reveals themselves
- After saving Frostmill you could General Argos (along with some Legion Soldiers) come to Frostmill and meet you (either he heard about you saving Frostmill or he was sent to get rid of Iris and ended up running into you after you had already defeated.
- He congratulates, asks where you think Iris is heading next. You say you don’t know but you are heading to Palo Town to look for her because that’s the direction she was sailing (this will tie in to the Order member appearing at Palo)
- You go to Palo Town and start investigating, Order member appears and attacks you (This would basically imply Argos tipped you off but you wouldn’t know this yet)
Side note: Make Palo Town bigger please I beg
- Night’s idea continues you tell Mayor Tilly, do sidequests, etc.
- At this point in the story it might be a good time to come across Morden again (in Palo Town of course) You tell him of your experiences and he accompanies you to The Stepstones and Cirrus.
- There you talk to Ren with Morden, story goes as usual, you find Iris, etc.
- After finding out about Berringer, Morden parts ways with you to go and look for him (I don’t even remember why we were raiding Fort Talos but this would make it make more sense) while you go and search the other Sky Islands
- Story goes on as usual
Sidenote: It might be cool to make one of the Order Members on Skycliff a little boss that’s a bit harder than Iris. This could help ease players into the difficulty spike with Elius
- Story continues like normal up to after defeating Elius. Elius will tell you the usual like he’s a noble of Ravenna and such (perhaps if you spare him he’s willing to tell you a bit more) but I don’t think he should be the one to explain what Sea Curses are. That part to me honestly feels so forced. What should happen is mentions Berringer with the Cloud curse and stuff, but he doesn’t explain them to you (because why would he? You just beat his ass)
- After this you’d ask a character like Iris or Ren about sea curses and they would explain it to you
- Story commenced as usual and you head to Sailors Lodge and meet Morden again and gather information from everyone and the Privateer. This is where you could start to make a connection between Argos and the Order being involved with eachother (idk)
- Raid on Fort Talos
- You go to Ravenna, meet with Prince Revon. He should acknowledge your efforts with saving Frostmill then tell you the info and such
- It would be really cool if when you travel to Rubica you get to see a cutscene of the Kings return.
- Story commences as usual and you meet Carina. It would be cool if she had some different dialogue depending on whether or not you spared Elius or killed him.
- Add a spare or kill option for Carina (I don’t really know the impact of these choice options, but apparently you don’t kill Carina if you spared Elius anyways?? That’s just what I’ve heard. But sometimes I don’t wanna just outright kill a character. I’d like to be merciful sometimes regardless). This could change some dialogue with Ulricus
- The last parts of the story I think can remain mostly unchanged, however I do think some bits regarding your imprisonment do need to be changed. It would be a much better experience if Ravenna actually tried to get information (Maybe Julian would interrogate or even the King) out of you, because that would genuinely be more logical then just making you work to your death in the mines and doing nothing about you. Perhaps the Truth Serum thing could come back (it would be lazy to conveniently have it used on Berringer but not you?)
- Story commences as usual and you fight the king. Chapter 5 is pretty much fine
That’s all the suggestions I have for the story. Thank u
Would be interesting if we can see Iris there, iirc she said she was going to ask around there.
You actually can. And she basically tells you to go look where she asked you to look
Interesting, I took a small detour check around but I guess I didn’t check around enough.
If this is added to fighting styles tbh i think it would be cool if information was hidden depending on your mastery level, for example amateur has everything hidden, and by the time you have adept or master mastery you can see everything about the fighting style stats. Just a neat little touch i think
now that u point that out it is and would be odd to just have that be a 1 time plot convenience mention with a lot of implication on the war seas’ alchemical and medicinal prowess. that something like a truth serum can exist but seemingly used sparingly and rarely obtainable to balance things out. as every kingdom and their ancestors would’ve been using it since the dawn of time if it was fairly obtainable
another point of it being weird to not have Calvus or Julian come to you personally after killing his prized general whom could’ve trained him when he was younger and be a pseudo minor father figure of sorts. assuming the order didnt provide individuals to that role individually, or collectively as it’s implied or prevent such experience/feelings on such things to have a more malleable pawn.
he was really angry for a reason it seems, to the point it surprised a person like Carina on his mood. the brushing up on the beginning parts of the story is pog as well as not being set in stone from it being early access. i personally find it okay and fine if u retcon/ change things to benefit the story and improve it overall imo.
since i’m in that process right now with my own stories and moving backwards to get the details to the end goal and making a beginning to support the end if not add/improve it
do hope vetex considers the story changes and knows that he can change up the story to make it even better than it is currently. i’ll gladly reset/make a file to do all of it all over again (which doesn’t amount to much seeing im doing 44+ files at the minimum ;-; )
the 1000 citizens of palo town stuffed into 12 houses:
Yeah this never made sense glad it may be added, brings some depth
Aight, just now but I guess this could be QoL:
When the tool is a weapon, make it so the skills have a priority over messages and regular npcs, shop npcs have priority over all.
Probably also just me because a message blocked me from using a skill on merlot so he just used his entire barrage on me
For the story im hoping we don’t just beat king calvus right after we got freed from slavery, idk how it would work but it would be cooler if we fought king calvus(we lose miserably) then after suffering the Harriet Tubman experience, we break out and head to windrow, we get our awakening and come back to beat king calvus
Ideally this happens in the Nimbus Sea if we participate in the defense against the forces of Keraxe, we get absolutely decimated by one of Wotan’s sons , maybe the youngest and/or weakest trying to prove themselves and being overconfident. During the Keraxe war we could have Iris is barely standing up or knocked out, Morden is somewhere else, out of commission, or about to get stabbed by a devourer by one of Wotan’s sons. During this cutscene we could receive an awakening and gain a temporary story boost to chase off one of Wotan’s sons by surprising him with our sudden increase in power before we fall into a coma or something. This would emphasize that even the weakest of Wotan’s sons is a force to be reckoned with.
With this next bit, let’s assume we see Morden about to be stabbed by a devourer:
With the awakening, it could be shown by a release of our aura (kinda like when we fully charge) before we attack one of Wotan’s sons with a class specific cutscene.
Strength users dash and perform an (imbued) punch Wotan’s son away from Morden.
Mages fire a concentrated by potent blast at Wotan’s son.
Conjurers/Warriors perform an attack based on their 1st weapon slots type
For example: Blunt/Sharp
Vitality users, we gotta see spirit weapons first.
Regardless of the cutscene, we draw blood from Wotan’s son.
Winning the War route (alt):
Alternatively, we continue to fight and destroy a portion of the naval forces that could’ve made landfall before taking our allies and heading back into the kingdom to recoup. From there we could lose consciousness and find out later that the naval forces of Keraxe backed off for the time being thanks to Morden recovering and unleashing the full might of the death curse on the army. From here it can be further emphasized that we only pushed back against Wotan’s son because we caught him off guard.
Losing the War (most likely if Wotan’s son was to beat Morden):
Despite our best efforts, all we managed to do was push back Wotan’s son. With the situation being dire, it has reached a point where the kingdom has begun evacuation of the citizens, we fight through the battlefield with an injured Iris and an battle damaged Morden. From here we sneak onto the ship and escape from the battlefield, from here a cutscene plays with the title screen ost or something of a similar tone as we see the kingdom being ravaged by the naval army in the background. The forces of Keraxe too consumed by their desire for conquest to notice the fleeing vessels.
Anyways that’s all for my short Ted talk.
If the story gets expanded I’d like to see the level cap increased to 150 and have the recommended level for Calvus to be increased to be relative. Likewise, Calvus seems a bit too much like a wimp to me from my times fighting him. So if the level cap does increase give him like 500 more health or something (get it up to an even 5000, although I’d personally wouldn’t mind if I have to fight a 5000 health Calvus that hits 1.5x harder but maybe make a hard mode with boosted rates or something).
Although, if the level cap was to be increased I’d prefer it happen when the 3rd and 4th set of weapon skills are released, and for it to happen after more rare spells are added. Although with the talk about redoing parts of the story, and it’d probably take a while and Vetex wants to work on Nimbus sea.
this gripe is small, but could you change the sound effect of killing bosses depending on your build? if you use fighting styles it could be a crunch or something or a snap and if you use magic idk, just the sound effect of your magic?
Imma be real I didn’t know this existed
I would be 100% down for some story stuff between killing the king and heading to wind row where we travel with Neviro to Akursius keep where he explains that this was once the home of his people and him seeing what his old home has been turned into.
I feel like its the perfect place for some chaos (figurative and literal) and character development for Neviro since he really doesn’t get much compared to Iris and Morden.
With it being story content, cutscenes for added insanity (figurative and literal) would probably be fun.
