Firepower
Guns. They’re the tools of war.
War. The tool of change, development and fall.
Before the Stamstani war, guns consisted mainly of flintlock muzzle loading firearms occasionally with a rifled barrel, along with heavy cannons and artillery. These weapons are still common, cheap mass produced smoothbore muskets handed out in Nishifubetu, and higher quality rifles given to each new Bounty Hunter licensed by Grandia.
During the Stamstani War though guns began to develop. This was for two reasons. One, Stamstani strategy consisted of constant bombardment, siege and targeted attacks against leadership figures to destroy morale. The Regnum couldn’t effectively use bows to counteract either their artillery or assassins, so they turned to developing quality guns. At the same time, gunsmithing as a trade exploded in Daybreak. The discovery of fulminates and the creation of percussion caps happened first in Daybreak, and then a few months later in the Regnum. This allowed the Regnum to develop caplock percussion rifles, whilst in Daybreak the pistol was more common. This was still extremely expensive and each firearm was manufactured by hand.
The next major development was the breach loading rifle and the idea of having the ignition for the gunpowder and the main charge packaged into one. The latter was experimented on earlier, with paper cartridges containing a small metal disc and an ignition primer, along with the main charge, being ignited all at once with an impact from a spring loaded hammer. This unfortunately wasn’t extremely effective as the primer was likely to go off accidentally and cause injury to the soldier carrying the rifle. Near the end of the war though, full metal cartridges containing the projectile, gunpowder and ignition found their use in breach loading rifles, although these were few in construction due to cost and could cause injury to the user. As there was no effective way of removing the metal cartridge from the gun, reloading was hard as well as expensive.
The most recent development was the idea of a revolving pistol, where multiple of these metal cartridges could be used without reloading. This is still mostly in a prototype stage with gunsmiths in Daybreak.

Teledosia
You’re travelling by horseback down a major trading route from Delpheleu, down to the coast, then across Nishifubetu. Before that, however, you must travel through a complete wasteland. Barren land devoid of people but bandits and other traders. The urban centres north of you are war torn, filled with poverty, death, dirt and regret.
This is Teledosia, a large wreck of a country. Unlike most countries it isn’t ruled by a parliament, president, monarch, council or chieftain, but instead by a Despot. The current leader, who gained control after a series of coups is one Andreas VahRellas, a former mercenary and brutal tyrant. Despite their claim over most of the eastern Rift Mountains, they only truly control a small section south of the point where the mountain range cuts across their land.
Their controlled territory is seen in the dark oranges below.
(Ignore the spelling as Teliodesia on the map, it has been changed to Teledosia)
This lack of physical power is due to three main reasons.
1 - The Rift Mountains prevent them extending northwards (Despite this they keep harsh military presence near the Grand Court Land borders.
2 - The deserts of the north prevent further development.
3 - The country is politically unstable and doesn’t have the manpower to keep a good control of territory.
Teledosia, due to its… interesting leader, is one of few countries which aren’t on good terms with the Grand Courts. They actually specifically oppose them in many cases, attempting to keep their border with the Grand Court Lands extremely well defended. The giant mountains also help.
This brings me on to my next point, the Teledosian Divide and Killsquads
The Teledosian Kill Squads, or as named by the Grand Courts, Proscriptus Interficio (Ancient Language meaning “Killing Outlaws” or “Outlaws who Kill”, it’s actual latin translation is quite funny) are mercenaries hired by VahRellas to firstly, keep rural areas of Teledosia in check, and secondly, to rob groups travelling through the major trade routes in the south of Teledosia. When the Koro Independence War broke out, despite the Grand Courts still being on friendly terms with both sides, protocol meant that Peacekeepers could not, and Bounty Hunters are advised not to travel through warring territory.
This meant that rather than using The Way - the major road that connects Rirossoia to Nishifubetu, Dawnbandia, Saltlia, Daybreak, Enarith and Heung - they had to take the Teledosia Pass, which went through the urban centres of Teledosia, up through the Rift Mountains and across the sparse plains south of the Uilikian territory, connecting back with Dawnbandia.
This led to a huge increase in attacks on Peacekeeper groups, to the point the Council of Grandia was going to declare war on Teledosia if they didn’t stop sponsoring these groups. This decision was vetoed by the newly chosen Judge Winters.
Due to the violence and poverty in the area, the west-east trade divide only grew, with only the largest countries being able to afford routing their ships through the Frostlines.
