Alright I’m gonna start this off by prefacing it with the fact that yes, i am decent if not good at pvp. Ive beaten leaderboard players with their full ganking potion pots, ive even held my own against headless using sangdrasill (for about 2 seconds but thats not relevant). This isnt a whiny pve player complaining about the existence of people better than them at pvp.
Now that being said, what is with the weird tolerance of a forced unfair fight on somebody if its pvp? To help get my point across, I’d like to imagine a scenario. In order to make the game more Immersive™ vetex decides he wants the grand navy to have a more realistic response to seeing an emperor of the sea. The update drops, and your average leaderboard renown sweat feels like ganking some pve players, when the pve players is attacked, they send a message to “The Grand Navy” in the contacts list and they send over the equivalent of a buster call, the the PvE player is escorted out and now the pvp player is fighting an objectively unfair fight with basically no hope of surviving, after Adkins is done go/joing the emperors ass with his patented spin attack they go on the forums to complain, saying they were “Forced into an unfair fight for no good reason when they just wanted to do the part of the game they enjoy.” and the forums immediate response is interpreting them as a crybaby who should “Just learn to pve well” and “Stop whining”, now I assume you all know what im talking about here so there’s no real reason to elaborate on this further.
Now here’s the thing, you can learn to be good at pve, REALLY good. You can abuse the games ai and wreck basically anything you come across, even if this feature was added eventually people would learn how to sidestep, beat, and escape in order to keep hunting the pve player, but the same thing will not and cannot apply to pvp. It doesn’t matter how much you nolife the game, chances are there’s always someone better than you. There can only be one “Best” at pvp at a time, and event that person wont win 100% of their fights. So here’s the question, if ganking people is a game mechanic that needs to be accepted, why doesn’t the same apply to anything else?
I really don’t care about your opinion on if ganking is good but surely you can accept that engagement that you didn’t consent to and is not advertised as a main feature is forced right
this has the extra layer of what people at the top of the ladder are running though, no?
it’s not realistic to say arcane odyssey pvp is absolutely skill dependant
don’t worry bro i’m not gonna go schizo this thread
Yeah, but I assume everyone in the top 10 k:d ratios would be running around the same meta cheese build, otherwise they’d probably fall off even if more skilled
the “Best” in this scenario isnt the most skilled, its just whoever wins the most fights
i have to disagree with this - everyone still has their own preferences on what build they WANT to run - even though it may differ from the meta
this does make a very large gap between what you regard as the “best” in your reply - which meant people who win the most, and the “best” i assumed you’re discussing, meaning those who are actually the best at arcane odyssey
they’re not the best though are they? they’re just using their resources right
The player hits the Play button, they agree to play the game with all that entails. What’s next on the chopping block? Chatting with other players? After all, they can just walk up and start sending messages without your consent. How about dying? Did anyone ever ask for an NPC to kill them?
Dude this is the literal point of the scenario I just posted please read it and address the actual point instead of getting mad about me using the word forced of all things
so if vetex were to at some point create the hypothetical feature stated above and if u were to at any point become a lb player u would be fine with getting hounded by unfair npcs ??? (same logic since u pressed play and agreed to it)
(if it sounds redundant i am so high off nothing rn excuse me)
I am BEGGING you guys to actually address the point of the topic instead of turning this into another copy paste argument about whether ganking is moral istg
What’s the actual point to be addressed? “PvP is bad because this PvP strawman would be upset if they were put into a PvE encounter”? And I was talking about dying in general - after all, people fight bosses for loot, why would they want to be interrupted with death?
The POINT was not pvp is bad, I explicitly stated my point to be the fact that for some reason, pvp in a scenario where someone isn’t equipped to it is far more acceptable and tolerated then if pve, and the question is why, I did not say my opinion on if ganking is good and healthy for the game, I did not say my opinion on if pvpers are stupid or something, this topic is a question, and you are getting mad about my assumed opinions from how I worded it.
I feel like at a certain point when talking about pvp/pve people are gonna have to act the way they do around politics where they have to tiptoe around certain buzzwords to get people to listen instead of instantly shutting down their ears upon hearing “social”
