This post was made with my own personal opinions as a PvE player and I only have context from the first few posts. Basically, I’m going to repeat some points that have already been made. Please remember that this is my opinion. You’re 100% welcome to disagree with me if you want, freedom of speech and all that.
Why I think agility should stay
This would force Vetex to take certain gear that scales with agility and then change the stat it increases to something else.
Grabs and ranged attacks exist for a reason. You’re telling people to cope when you’re not landing a grab on runners and then comboing them with another attack before finishing with a ranged attack.
One of the only reason someone would be running an agility build is because they want to avoid gankers, and you can’t switch to an agility loadout in the middle of a fight, so the fact that you’re complaining about those players probably means that you’re a toxic ganker. You shouldn’t be PvPing people who don’t want to PvP. If you’re doing that, you’re genuinely the most toxic kind of PvP player. This isn’t supposed to be a game where you go up to someone and fight them without warning, so you really can’t be complaining about people running from you when they just don’t want to fight you.
Agility can be used in combat. I’m saying this as someone who has an agility warlord slot, which is the one that I have the least difficulty with. It can be used to dodge and close distance with enemies, so most strength builds would be practically useless without it since mages and other long-range builds could just attack, run away, and avoid you. It’s not like you could catch up to them, you’re both the same speed. Agility is usually necessary to catch a ranged attacker as a melee build.
It’s fun to have lots of movement in open-world games like AO, especially on massive islands like Sameria and Mount Othrys. I don’t have much explanation for this, it’s just fun in my opinion.
Criticisms I have for your argument
You decided to solve this post. This topic isn’t a question about the game where you want to know something. There is no “correct answer” because it’s a debate, so saying that there is a correct answer is coming off as you whining about people disagreeing with you and choosing the people who do agree with you and praising them for it.
You barely explained anything in the original post. You should have given more details about your take so you didn’t have to explain all of your reasons by responding to other posts. Understanding your point of view makes it a lot easier to know where you’re coming from and gives a starting point for the discussion.
Closing off your original post by saying nothing will change your mind makes this topic feel like less of a discussion and more like a place where I’ll only get any respect if I agree with you. If the point of this post wasn’t for meaningful discussion, then you shouldn’t have made the post at all.
I just want to end this post by repeating that this is my opinion. I’m not trying to say you’re wrong at all, it’s my take, and I’m not saying that it has to be yours.
Tbh, if Vetex added outposts to some islands and made this blast in gankers’ ears again at 230 decibels, I think ganking would become less of an issue. Grand Navy spawning at sea takes much too long to mean anything on islands. Even if they don’t do much damage, they can distract enough for PvErs to escape.
I assume there is some unspoken reason, besides the setting of AO compared to WOM, why the Grand Navy doesn’t have outposts on islands (at least not yet) or simply spawn on the island itself. I don’t like the idea of removing agility though because actual melee builds (Juggernaut, Berserk, etc) almost require it
why have so many people in favor argued specifically that the game’s PvP is unbearable specifically because of agility.
Its not, its unbearable without it too.
“use potions” please kindly shut up.
The love potions you all talk about as being the perfect replacement for agility both invalidates your own argument AND is useless as a solution simultaneously.
Not only would it serve the role of the supposed perfect no-danger switch that agility potions supposedly are, but it’d be even better at it! Wow this guy literally can’t fight you ever again in this server! So, if this is in the game and you’re supporting it, what’s the issue with agility again?
However, in reality, your T5 love gel just got disabled by a T1 potion that took infinitely less effort to make. So, tell me, are ya’ll giving love gels all this praise specifically because you know its useless and want us to believe its useful, or do you all genuinely believe they’re useful lol.
Potions are even more of a part of why people dislike PvP than agility lol.
It allows people to put an even bigger gap between stats abruptly because they grinded more.
What are people going to do about nuclear size builds without agility? I ask because they’re clearly not getting patched out given that we’re nearing two years.
Sure, removing agility might solve a problem, but it’ll just open up several more.
This is a net negative.
First of all, I would like to apologize. I have never fought an agility build until now, and I was completely wrong. I hope you can forgive me for making such a rude, naive post.
agility is dumb but we should make sure any changes benefit both parties (PvE and PvP)
I mean the easiest (and most obvious) solution is just to buff the natural base speed of the players
speed potions can stay though, since they’re easier to control compared to the actual agility stat.
“but typ0 that makes gankers still have the ability to get unfair advantages against their targets” yea honestly a ganker is always going to have an unfair advantage there’s not a lot we can do to fix this
A love gel effectively ends all fights in a stalemate no matter what. You can’t come back from a love gel. There’s no, “Run away, heal up, come back”, the status effect cannot be cleared- only prevented. When someone uses a love gel, all targets are given the option to simply leave the game and find someone else to a pick a fight with. Only an idiot would actually stay in the server with someone they just love-gel’ed, especially if that idiot chose to love gel someone in the first place (Typically, people that use love gels just leave after the combat timer runs out).
On the other hand, someone with 200 agility can continuously attempt to destroy their target with no downsides. It typically goes like this:
Run to target → Attack target → Run away from target when you get low → Repeat
With agility, the fight doesn’t end in a stalemate. In fact, the fight might never end at all. The one running the most agility can treat a player like a boss NPC, running away and healing up, then coming back and attacking again before the combat timer runs out.
Winning is nearly impossible. If you were to win, it’s usually because they were dumb enough to let them get so low that you could finish them with a blast or placed explosion.
The problem isn’t that people are using agility to run from fights. The problem is that people are using agility to run from fights THEY STARTED.
That doesn’t make any sense. In that case, why do we even have a leveling system? Isn’t it unfair for a max level to be stronger than a low level because they decided to play for a little while longer?
your T5 love gel that required you spend several hours finding incredibly rare life essences through the dark sea is countered by a T1 that requires a pink apple on any island that has trees.
unless you’re fighting morons that forgot potion brewing existed, love gels do not work.
frankly, the status prevention should have never been added, or it should cost the same as the potion its countering at least.
A potion as expensive as a T5 love gel shouldn’t just get hit with nuh-uh because a guy drank a singular pink apple.
