i mean there wasnt really a use for fishing in wom except for completionists, and that didnt have food
And arcane odyssey isnt supposed to revert back to WoM with little to no mechanics except PvE
hold on, on whose side are you
the one that thinks this suggestion is good or the one that thinks its stupid
Yes
bruh
I agree with your point that this isn’t the kind of game that should have a hunger bar, that’s for survival games, not MMORPGs
I dont know what to rate this anyway so uh nice suggestion
Didn’t read any of this but I disagree because of that one time I won a 2v5 because one of the guys in the fight starved to death and gave me a boost back to full health which let me annihilate all of his buddies
Hiding the dumb stuff to not clog the space
…
This suggestion doesn’t remove meals or food… it’s just the hunger bar, which is only a threat every 31.25 minutes.
… I don’t even know what to say. This is some textbook strawmanning.
Recovery buff? Money? Gambling for sunkens? But yeah, fishing probably just exists for premium payouts.
Where did you get this conclusion from? I don’t even think this is bait, it’s something else entirely. Probably a waste of time either way.
On a less brainrotting note, I actually think this idea has some merit. Recovery might need a change, but I never noticed that anyways.
I don’t understand? I feel like tedium is never a good addition unless you’re making a really weird experience like a myth game, easter egg, or special experience (Heatstroke as a non-roblox example). Even then I would say that the first two are questionable.
Isn’t the point of ammo in FPS games to encourage you to hit your shots? Also to push you to interact with the fun parts of the game, aka looting.
At least this is what I would assume, I only know about Fortnite from a friend who plays it a lot.
Hunger in AO doesn’t improve the gameplay loop. It’s kinda just its own thing which has basically no impact.
Extra about using elements from genre staples without thinking about whether they are necessary
Even though ammo and hunger are common in their respective genres, I would argue that they’re still not good additions.
Ammo, if not balanced correctly, is completely useless or even detrimental (since it can encourage playing in a less fun way, i.e. conserving the fun tools). If done well though, it actually pushes you to play in a fun way, such as Gungeon making you use a variety of weapons.
Same thing with hunger in Minecraft. Though I havent truly played Minecraft recently, I don’t recall getting food ever being an issue in survival. It’s just a button to heal up that happens to be themed around food.
The weird thing about hunger in AO is that it isn’t a staple of the genre nor does it add anything. It would be excusable if you could say “well, so many other MMORPG games added this mechanic so it should be in here as well” (bad reasoning btw) but that doesn’t work here.
(end of details)
you know what it does do though? turn meals into potions 2.0
i was trying to make my point morr clear, but yeah youre right lol
anyway at last, someone that points out fallacies!
[insert our battle will be legendary meme since i ran out of space]
Well you see, there is recently quite an amount of topics where people complain on features that are old and everyone was fine with
Aren’t meals already potions but lamer? There’s way less food buffs than potion buffs. The food buffs are consistently useful but also hard to notice at times. They’re also less flashy than potions and have less depth.
Hunger is not unique and not fun to interact with. Removing it wont ruin cooking or meals either.
as of now, the only redeeming quality food has is recovering hunger, why would you strip it of its main function?
Maybe you’d like my previous comment as a compromise to that?
My idea is to split potions to be the combat form and meals as the out of combat form.
Meal effects would only work if the combat tag is off.
that is going to powercreep recovery lol
for me, meals are the utility/passive buffs while potions are active/refresher buffs
Last time I checked, food also gives passive buffs, which can last for a stupid amount of time if you use the right ingredients. Hunger is completely unnecessary and does nothing good for the game, but Food can at least be useful. Hell, Recovery food is basically necessary if you want to do a group run of Fort Castrum.
Food can exist as the more passive counterpart to Potions. You never get a slow, long-winded buff from potions most of the time (with the one exception that I can think of off the top of my head being better in Jewelcrafting); you always get an immediate effect. Food is if you want a buff that will last you basically the whole way through something tedious, like fort raids or treasure charts.
tl;dr Food is the passive, more in-the-background effect, while potions are the “oh fuck oh shit” one.
Also this is 100% my unhealthy amount of spite talking, but I find it bizarre that nobody bothered to counter one of my many tirades against hunger being in the game on the forums, but here there’s people advocating for it faster than I can come out of the closet.
Hunger in Minecraft is a resource you have to pay attention to.
It determines your regeneration, speed, and other mechanics that could affect you in combat.
You need to use valuable inventory space and more importantly hotbar space for food that will let you keep going. Needing to stop for a snack in the middle of combat isn’t exactly ideal.
Every action you take slowly but surely eats away at your hunger bar until you have to stop.
Minecraft is also a survival game, so of course it has a hunger mechanic.
Hunger in AO is… annoying.
you have so much food on you at all times that it can’t even be called a resource.
like sure you lose some stamina related stuff at low hunger but why would you ever be at low hunger.
AO is… not a survival game, so hunger isn’t really even part of the genre in any meaningful way.
Warding potions
Ironskin potions
Agility potions
Knew I was forgetting some of those potions; for some reason, the only one I could think of was Energy Regen. Warding and Ironskin are fairly niche, though (Warding for Dark Sea and Ironskin if you have a death wish). Also, correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure Agility is also available as a Food Effect from something.
