it’s perma death, you have 3 lives overall, 2 are on the overworld, if you are on your second life and you level up you get all 3 lives back. so maybe keep levels in check if you wanna do smth risky.
if you are on your last life you go to the depths, there’s stuff to do here but generally you just want to escape, which will give you all lives back
if you die in the depths you are dead, your character is gone, you can pay robux for a ONE time revive of your character, if you think you really like that character, but still only once.
but not all is lost, you can bring some items like weapons or armor over to the next character, and when you fully reset the character you get points that you can use to do some upgrades to your character (like doing more damage to PvE stuff, but no upgrades outright do anything for pvp) how many points you get depends on what you did in the live.
i personally didn’t really have trouble with random killing, but i haven’t played since a bit so idk what it looks like rn. but do be wary of the “assassin’s” (i forgot their names lol) they are players that unlocked a spawn point that is moreso based on pvp to progress, they can get bounties and then teleport to the general area of a person to hunt them down. you can get rid of your bounty for them if you do a specific event. you can look that up ig.
otherwise i would say the game is very worth it, especially if you go in with the mind set of always trying out new characters. that when you die, you just get a new chance to try out a new build or make the build you had last time better.
If you like it when your games have two self-contradictory game design decisions, go for it!
Before Mr_Hyperspace replies to this post to shit on me
The only way that you may learn how to fight enemies is through trial&error, trial&error that gets interrupted with permanent savefile erasure if you fail too many times.
There is no goal but to make a character that will eventually be lost to permadeath, no incentive to continue playing but peer pressure, toxicity, etc.
If you’re fine with a Sandbox game arbritrarily deleting what you’ve made, you wouldn’t mind playing Deepwoken.
If you’re fine with a knowledge-based game that punishes you for not having knowledge that it doesn’t give you, you wouldn’t mind playing Deepwoken
As for whether or not it’s similar to Arcane Odyssey: The two aren’t comparable, one is an aimless multiplayer permadeath non-RPG with player looting, the other is a story-driven multiplayer wanna-be MMORPG.
it’s fun but the new player experience is very…eh
If you have friends that already play deepwoken then I highly recommend you have them help you grasp the ropes of the game
Personally, I think deepwoken is not worth buying.
The only reason that they have so many players is because everybody’s working their way back to the top after they got hit with a permadeath.
They get you to replay multiple times to make up for the lack of actual content, amd it comes off as very exploitative to me. Replayability is good in most cases, but not when you force it to rack up premium payouts.
The game also tells you absolutely nothing about anything. You’ll desperately need an experienced player to help you.
To make that matter worse, the wiki is laughably bad, and the game’s description calls the lack of telling you things, “no handholding” to ease the complaints.
The combat system is fine, but trash and overused compared to something like AO.
If your bored and have nothing else to really play on this platform, (which there are some good hidden gems you can find I’m sure)
then maybe
But do consider:
Overwhelmingly toxic ingame community which will gank you whenever possible most of the time
lazy devs who take years to deliver a update that would take any other dev team a few months. They make up for their lack of content by just trying to appeal to the PvP community as much as possible
Decent lore on the surface that gets you interested, but then you learn the devs aren’t too good at writing it since they constantly just throw random things in there of no significance (wide as a ocean, deep as a puddle)
No proper sea content despite the seas being most of the game map (seriously why are there no npc ships)
Incredibly unbalanced builds for PvP.
A stupid and redundant permadeath system that is just there to make you play the game more, and really doesn’t contribute to difficulty and just makes the game more tedious after you learn how to progress properly.
Other than that it’s not a bad game at all, the PvE is fun, the world and exploration has some charm, and the combat is definitely well made. And even though it’s shallow the lore is enough to get you hooked + most character dialogue is well done. The community is definitely toxic but there are a lot of good people in it too.
The bosses are also pretty decent for Roblox standards, their only problem is that every last one of them is a complete damage sponge.
It has better writing than AO in some areas, and has cooler island exploration imo, and it overall has more engaging PvP despite it being a bit unbalanced and spammy.
imo dying in the depths should have something like ds1 hollowing where you lose humanity instead of straight up wiping, the wipe chance should go up every hollow
At this point I less care about your actual opinion on deepwoken and replies to people asking about it and more complaining in topics that are for people who already play it
