So I’d like to suggest a second solution to this problem.
When you die and have multiple respawn locations, you can, instead of being forced into the closest one, pick which one you spawn at before you respawn.
When you die, instead of immediately respawning, you stay on a dark blue screen similar to the loading screen and are given a prompt displaying your respawn options.
Clicking one will respawn you at the chosen location.
If people staying on this menu forever and going afk is somehow a problem, then it could be on a 1 minute time limit or something along those lines.
what do you think respawning is? lol
you still drop galleons on death, it ain’t free, and you’re still going to have to get your brig/camp where you want to use them each time you join a server.
naaaaaaah, not worth adding and its just gonna be abused anyway
theres literally no reason youd want to spawn further away unless its to skip having to travel there
the reason I want this change is because I don’t want to be forced back onto ravenna just because I happened to be slightly closer to it than where I actually wanted to set my respawn point.
Sounds fine to me. Players can already spawn close to where they died to a bounty hunt or something, so any issues related to this are already a thing anyways.
Also, that screenshot implies that camp spawnpoints will persist between servers and that ships (probably the brigate) will get a spawnpoint. Pretty neat.
I got persistent camps from “(story, faction, camp, or ship)”. These are most likely referring to player placed camps, but they could be referring to pre-placed camp decorations on the map (such as the 4 on shell island, I think there’s also one on Munera Garden).
EDIT: I just realized that they were referring to spawn point and not spawn location upon joining. my bad
This feature is actually implemented in Ro-Ghoul. If you die, you can pick a spawn for up to 3 seconds, and saves for your next lives but the screen still shows up. You can also pick a random spawn location
The change on the trello makes camps useless if you’re not even gonna spawn on the camp. This suggestion seems nice in way that you have more control of where and when you spawn, whether it’s the boat, the story location, or the camp. I like it.
The furthest I can see “abuse” going is using a clan bank to get under 1k galleons and
“fast traveling” for free… but you can already do that with camps so this doesn’t really change anything in that regard lol.
…yeah, a reason why people would abuse that to fast travel
the point is to respawn closer to where you died, not just let you teleport wherever you want. the only abuse with the ship is that its a camp that can be placed anywhere such as near a capturable island you dont own, but theres already countermeasures for this
then what’s a point of putting a camp on the northern end of the map if you’ll end up at ravenna the second you cross silverhold?
also you don’t get to teleport “wherever you want” and you don’t get to for free.
you get to teleport to one non-story island you’ve placed a camp on after sailing to, your ship if you spent 20k on a brig, or your current story island (ravenna) after dying.
doing so by resetting would cost 15% of your carried galleons so it wouldn’t even be worth it to use it that way.
you’re acting like this would allow people to instantly move cargo or sealed chests lol.
isnt the galleon loss capped at 300 something
anyway, it leads to more abuse than it really solves anything. the only intended benefit would be to not screw someone over if they get accidentally closer to their story spawn than camp before dying.
thats their fault for misplacing their camp that badly. obviously you have high chances to be far from your death location if you place all of your spawns at the edge of the map, as far as possible from where you wish to spawn
why are you so far from your intended spawn if your goal is to respawn there. why even bother placing one at all if its to leave it. usually the answer to this question would be walmart fast travel if its on purpose.
worst case scenario, it wasnt on purpose yet you still end up spawning closer to where you died than any other spawn (thats the entire point of the change)
compared to before, i still see the new system as a net positive and choosing any of your available spawns upon death is overkill. you are and always have been intended to sail to get around the map, and people have often used reseting to bypass that. thats not so bad as is due to how limited the spawn system is, but being able to choose your spawn among up to 4 just to solve an extremely specific issue that isnt even problematic is basically an incentive to push that even further
