Some “light” criticisms of Arcane Odyssey

probably because of the ludicrous amount of power they give you

what are you saying bro? When you use an attack, you stop moving. It takes like 0.3 seconds for the average attack to launch. It doesn’t have a “giant chargeup”, at least for the builds I use.

yes, also because they’re annoying to get

This is the same for nearly every fighting game. Using a special skill stuns you for a short while so you’re open to get punished if you use it willy nilly.

Got that part, lol

I don’t have issues with those three; I think LL numbed me to a completely nonexistent update schedule. I have issues with other things, though. Automatic climbing is nice, but it constantly gets in the way with terrain destruction. I want to high jump out of craters, but I feel like the game doesn’t trust me to do that. I also hate the existence of Cooking; remove it and the game would probably benefit at least a little, since the Hunger bar is just annoying, statuses could easily be worked into Potions, and it’s so easy to cook meals that restore at least 300+ Hunger that the bar is irrelevant for even longer. Same goes for Injuries, but it’s actively terrible from a design standpoint IMO.

Oh, and the fact that spirit weapons are going to be a post-release feature, but I’ve gone on about that so many times.

As for your issues themselves, the claim about no quests giving Fame or Bounty is so false, I might just censor it. Almost every quest gives you Renown correlating to your current alignment (except Neutral, which always gives Fame).

Everyone values their items differently.
This trading system isnt built on set values, its built on demand.

Thank you for pointing that out

I mean, if you try and trade with someone and you don’t give them enough items to set what you are giving a higher in game value to what you want them to give, you cannot make the trade. But I get your point, even if people tend to over value things by a crap ton.

value is always relative, so yes for you people might value things by a crap ton, but for most active traders, they would agree about values, such as getting an arcsphere for 5k gallons is a good deal

You raise very good points, especially the one about spirit weapons. An entire stat is now somewhat irrelevant because the most vital portion of it is just not implemented. You can still play those classes, but why would you? It’s just even more of a disadvantage than going savant!

I see it as a scam either way personally because the game values it at 300 galleons. I’m not gonna trade for that bullshit if I can just find it cheaper, even though I’m not going to look for it anyways because it’s completely random to find.

you said it yourself “the game values it at 300 gallons” that means the game would sell it for around that price, not players. Know the difference, or continue ignoring it.

I get the difference, but in my personal opinion, players are dumb. I understand that because it’s so annoying to get and so good for a build, people charge extra for it. But I’m not going to participate in that system when a price that is literally over 1000% higher than the og is considered a deal. Berate me all you want about “player value vs game value”, I am not going to humor trading.

Your choice. And i get why it’s frustrating, but that is how demand and supply works, you will see it in almost any game with a player to player trading system.
And also in the real world, its just more subtle there, since prices are adjusted more quickly and subtly.

“I understand that because it’s so annoying to get and so good for a build, people charge extra for it”, but thanks.

I happen to have played SSBU and B-Reverse/Wavebounce are both options that let your moves EXPAND your movement options(Completely reversing your aerial momentum), which lets my moves be used in more ways. Or you can air stall with a quick move(this does exist in AO which I’m fine with). Options are fun.

And I also played GG Strive once and you can use dash momentum with your attacks, letting you pursue people with an attack, and I have more fun when I can do stuff like this.

Stuff like this is fun for me. Like yes, you SHOULD BE VULNERABLE FOR WHIFFING, but it’s how you can USE the moves that is cool. Crash comes to mind for me here as an interesting move with interesting counter play: Intercept with projectile or let it whiff and punish.

Also why I VERY MUCH enjoy magic leap. it’s fluid and it’s cool and I love it.

Like, if I played Link in SSBU I can retreat and advance with a projectile. Sure I can’t block but I am still doing something even if it locks my momentum for a bit. Options are fun. An absolute pain to balance, but fun.

The examples I used let the player attack while moving which leads to more use-cases for said moves and a feeling of freedom.

SSBU in particular has good moves like Cloud b-air, a nigh unpunishable move on block, Palutena dash attack, a move that beats most other moves if they challenge it from straight on, that expand options. And the counterplay is different as well. Cloud b-air counterplay is about stopping the b-air before it comes out as it takes a while to come out in a way to be unpunishable or beating the option after the b-air. Palutena dash attack is about going above it to hit as it hits in front only or blocking it, as it’s not very safe. It still lets the player have access to interesting options though, since each tool has different ways to use them.

Uh basically I like SSBU(I will readily complain about it too), for those who don’t wanna read.

I personally don’t like trading because I wanna feel like I earn my stuff and I have a habit of constantly resetting my data, essentially deleting any items people gave me.

you can do the same thing with grab skills, crash attacks, and teleportation dashes.

ingame galleon values mean nothing tbf a cernyx piece is worth like 40 galleons despite being one of the best sets ingame

arcspheres are a ridiculously good item and have an exclusivity factor in being binded to a magic permanently so it makes sense people upcharge for them, theyre also pretty rare, i think ive found a single digit amount in my time playing
