Okay this is already a pretty obvious statement given that like 80% of the planet in the AU is uninhabitable, but even in the sea clusters things are kinda shit.
Half of the seven seas just got blown up, so they’re not having an amazing time at the moment.
The situation in the War Seas isn’t as dramatic but it is kinda depressing. The populations of the kingdoms are incredibly low. Ravenna has a total population of 14,750 including all their islands and the 30 frost brigands hanging out in Frostmill. About 30% of their population is military. Sameria is a bit better with their capital island alone having more population than all of Ravenna at 16k, but that’s still not a ton of people.
These guys genuinely cannot afford to being going to war very often if at all. At least the GN makes an except to their non-interference rule for genocides, but even then they can only really do anything after the genocide has already been committed. Not to mention even they participate in a little mass murder on occasion. Better hope the MC changes up the dynamic of the war seas a lot, otherwise I’d give the War Seas have about a century before total collapse.
None of this is even mentioning the entity of unfathomable power floating around space. Better be careful cause if anyone is too evil that thing might come down and make things 10x worse. If you’re lucky it’ll just condemn the people on one island to eternal torment slowing losing themselves trapped in the mortal plain without a body. If you’re not so lucky it’ll blow up continent’s worth of area if not more.
It definitely looks like the setting of the AU is a dying world that is almost constantly getting worse. Is there anything that makes things even worse that I missed? Any spot of hope? I guess the PK is eventually gonna start going around destroying curses which might alleviate some of the problems, but magic can be almost just as destructive so bro might need to go and take that too. Though I don’t know if he could do that before everybody kills each other first. Heck even individual non-magic users have the capability of mass destruction.
yeah it is pretty bleak at the moment but once the pk starts destroying curses and the ao mc starts doing whatever hes gonna do it might get a bit more peaceful
Didn’t really include them at first cause I was thinking that they didn’t cause too much damage, just killing like one person per contract. However, after reading this I did remember that they were trying to break the peace treaty between Ravenna, Sameria, and Keraxe.
They’re part of the general people trying to kill each other all the time so I didn’t mention them specifically
Apex predators that can kill even the strongest are very much present.
Dragons occasionally invading the sea clusters (planned).
Behemoth-tier sea monsters capable of cancelling any trip to the seas with their whims, and if they had intellect, could likely destroy whole islands (I can’t wait for a control magic user to do this).
I REFUSE to believe these are the true population numbers for the kingdoms, it has to be just a gameplay thing like how the “cities” in Ravenna/Sameria are probably only a bit bigger than my city block relative to our avatar’s size. No WAY would kingdoms be able to wage more than one big war every 50 years or so while not collapsing completely due to low population with those numbers
I don’t really see any reason for them not to be the lore numbers, at that point just don’t include it. As for how they don’t collapse my main guess is that stuff like the Winterveil genocide don’t normally happen, and stuff like magic and the occasional curse or spirit weapon as well as some particularly strong non-magic users allow for smaller groups to conduct warfare. Things are still pretty bad and war still takes a pretty decent toll but since small groups can still put up big fights it allows for their losses to be a lot less detrimental. I’m sure at a certain point a lot of kingdoms do just surrender though.
Basically what I’m getting at is with populations that low, waging war is incredibly stupid given one bad event (doesn’t have to be war) can basically completely wipe out a good chunk of your population.
One severe storm and/or tsunami (and these things are common given the state of the world) and suddenly your crops and city infrastructure are obliterated. Now there’s a famine and people are dying in the open spreading disease.
Speaking of, disease would be just as big of a threat as the wars (just like in real life) given they probably don’t have germ theory. AND they’re isolated on islands. Would healing potions even get rid of germs? I doubt healing potions are a common commodity anyway. Would be kinda based if Vetex made a kingdom be completely crippled from a plague.
All other species avoid killing specimen of same species as much as possible because it’s in their best interest survive. They will mainly seek to scare away their opponent, and they do so because, realistically, resources on Earth are sparse.
Humans, meanwhile, have proven capable adapting to most environments, create more living space, grow food efficiently to the point that every human could realistically live comfortably. Yet here we are, with poorer people slaughtering each other for the greedy people whose needs are already fully meet, but they still need more.
Now what do you think happens if you give this idiotic species magics and curses?
is nobody going to mention how literally a chunk of the earth got blasted into space, probably got into orbit and is now on its way to becoming a second moon/crashing into the original but in both cases amplifying tides to unfathomable degrees? (both because the ‘moon’ has more mass and because the earth has less now)
The worst part about the AU is how strength as a stat is absolutely useless and is canonically rubbish fodder that really has no purpose of existing since basically everything else outclasses it tenfold.
