curse users can only be damaged by magic energy sooo…
In the end, the curse users are the strongest since they can wipe entire kingdoms by themselves
One thing I don’t think has been mentioned, in terms of things that make the AU bleak, is the lack of progress. It’s 1854 years after the inception of magic and what do we have? Kingdoms and ironclads. There don’t seem to be any major democratic nations, Palo Town being a single city state, and technology seems to have stagnated.
Granted around 100 years were lost because of The Fracturing, but even so the people should be striving for better things. I wonder if the lack of new tech is less a consequence of the existence of magic and more of a consequence of a cultural nihilism caused by magic users. What’s the point of making the common man’s life easier when the value of that life is so low in the eyes of so many?
We should be seeing progress, especially in the War Seas. If they are constantly in conflict they should be trying to figure out new ways of manufacturing weapons, goods, and armor, but we don’t. The rulers of these nations are so set in the ways they’ve always done things that they can’t innovate. It reminds me of the Final Empire from Mistborn in a way. The rulers are immortal and thus so is their mindset. The worst part is this probably won’t change without something drastic happening that either removes Curse Bearers from their seats of power or gives those Curse Bearers even more power. Either way it’s not a good outcome for most people in the AU.
I may write more on this, but I’ll stop here for now.
ONCE AGAIN THE FAULT LIES WITH YOU MAGIC USERS! (cs)
The inception of magic and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race.
Definitely harder for leadership to change from monarchies to democracies when the leaders either have centuries long lifespans or are literally immortal.
True, I wonder if the Peacekeeper’s crusade will improve things. Though seeing as Magius (I know it’s not canon, but it’s still an example of Vetex’s philosophy of world building) still has kings, it may not.
Who knows though, maybe there’s a sea cluster out there that’s poor in curses, but rich with progress. Seeing as the Curse Bearers are a large reason that innovation stagnates within kingdoms.
Also this idea of widespread cultural nihilism, may give credence to my headcanon that the Sky Islands are more developed. Since they wouldn’t have the same level of anxiety that sea kingdoms do, and may put more focus in improving the lives of their citizens.
that would make sense quality of life wise because they wouldnt be killing each other all the time
To be perfectly honest I’m pretty sure within the setting kings are not inherently a bad thing thematically
Most of the world’s population now lives in peace on this new continent, with the Magic Council keeping the peace. The Magic Council is much more lenient than the Arcane Government was, and are respected and praised in most parts of Magius. It has 10 members equally in command, all of which have to vote in order for an important decision to pass, unlike the Arcane Government, where decisions were handed down from the top person in charge. The Magic Council watches over the many kingdoms and towns, and creates the laws for the people to abide by. Members of the Magic Council reside in different corners of Magius, as some are kings or leaders of their own people. When an important event needs discussing, they all meet in a place known as Citrine Town, where the Magic Council’s main building lies. Kingships and dynasties still exist, some branching all the way back to The Age of Seven Seas, however these dynasties all answer to the Magic Council, making them a shell of their former glory. Dynasties are now mainly a different style of mayorship, as they hold far less power than they used to, and are preserved by some areas of the world as part of their culture.
There actually was some progress made in Magius, since the magic council seemed to function more like a federal republic sort of similar to the US where the monarchs are like the representatives of the state governments and the magic council is the federal government. The monarchs can probably make their own laws as long as it doesn’t conflict with what the laws the MC has laid out
This would be great, the seven seas was kind of like this since they didn’t have constant wars so they focused more on innovation and created things like steamships and electricity. But it would’ve been really cool to have a sea cluster that had developed magic technology or something else along those lines
I mean, just build a fortress in order not to die. I didnt even except all kingdoms gonna have same currency but for now it seems like they do
