The Future of Fighting Styles!

Well, this month is off to quite the start! If you’ve been following development through the patch notes and have seen Vetex’s recent sneak peeks, you’re probably aware that the recent sneaks include some of the changes made to magic as well as our first look at a new island, Fort Talos - and as usual, they’ve made me even more hype for the game. If you haven’t seen them yet, you can view those here.

However, that’s not what I want to talk about today. Vetex’s new tweet brought in a plethora of new questions from fans, and a few received answers from the man himself. Among them, there’s one interaction that piqued many people’s interest;

Thanks to this person’s input, it seems Vetex might have a new interesting idea for late game fighting styles! Personally, I’m actually pretty fond of this idea, and I’ll explain why;

As Vetex said in his tweet, he doesn’t need to worry about running out of ideas for lost/ancient fighting styles and have them end up redundant. After all, there’s only so many unique combat animations and status effects one can come up with. Also, if you’re a fan of a base fighting style, you might not find a lost or ancient fighting style that complements your play style the same way. And personally I’m just a big fan of your fighting style getting stronger as you do; a familiar example on roblox that comes to my mind is Blox Fruits, where every basic combat style has a “version 2” that you can unlock when you reach 400 mastery. I can only imagine that if Vetex did something similar he’d be able to execute it way better.

I can just imagine the possibilities with this type of progression for fighting styles. Fighting style evolution reminds me of magic mutation from Arcane Adventures, and makes me wonder if certain fighting styles would “branch out” into different later game fighting styles. For example Thermofist, which focuses on fast punches to build up heat, could branch into a lost fighting style with extremely fast attacks and another one that increases the intensity of your heat. I’m sure a lot of people reading this are wondering “what about the current lost fighting styles? I don’t wanna lose my beloved Morbius fighting style or less abusable impact fist!!” Well a simple solution would just be to make those fighting styles slightly weaker and make them base styles, and have their evolution be what their planned lost styles are. Everything works out and everyone’s happy :nod:

Well those are my thoughts on it, what are yours? Don’t forget that this is all just speculation, and Vetex could just be thinking out loud. No matter how fighting styles turn out, I have a feeling most people won’t be disappointed.

Do you like the idea of fighting style evolutions?
  • Yes, I’d like Fighting Style evolutions to replace Lost and Ancient Fighting Styles
  • No, I’d like Lost and Ancient Fighting Styles to stay

indifferent for now, not so keen on them literally replacing lost and ancient fighting styles but its also nice since it could make base fighting styles more relevant late game

although heres my issue, i already feel like they will, because thinking about it magic wise i dont assume that base magics will be completely irrelevant late game since they still do make up 66% of your offense if you’re a full mage build, and while you might say that magics have synergies and fighting styles dont (here i’m ASSUMING they dont, but i feel like its implied they might in the descriptions with the whole “wind-like” or “water-like” effects at higher levels, its not guaranteed but anyway just for simplicities sake ill assume they dont), i still imagine that base fighting styles will still have utilities and/or combo potentials or just straight up they do plenty of damage so i feel like if the base fighting styles get to have “evolutions” its gonna make them better or as good as lost fighting styles making lost fighting styles feel less relevant and unique, so unless the entire system is changed or i guess if all fighting styles types (and magic types) get to have “evolutions” im not really for it

im still pretty confused on what “upgrading” them is supposed to mean and it could literally just be like AA mutations where its just get to a certain level and pick what mutation you want (ion really remember AA’s system but i think it was that??) which in that case im really against it cuz thats boring

although it’s not confirmed that they will, I assumed they would because we have weapons that do like sunken sword. So to keep them as viable as magic and weapons, I thought it’d only be fair to give them status effects as well

Yeah I kind of picture it like AA mutations in a way

I found the idea pretty interesting, feels like it gives each base FS the potential to branch out or specialize in something specific imo
