The message system is probably getting removed (also maybe even chat as a whole)

There is a new roblox update coming in the near-ish future that would require Vetex to remake the chat system to comply with the new requirements, this also means that messaging is probably going to be removed.

hooray for roblox updates!!!

also here is what vetex said about it on the devforum:

I hope theres a way to fix this, it would be awful not being able to talk in game

this update really isn’t as bad as vetex made it out to be. he should’ve read what they wrote right under lol. custom chats are not banned, you simply have to use a part of their API. get it right vetex.

simply the following:

can some people not just read english and not just immediately start hating on roblox for making, to be honest, a good update?

the message system doesn’t have to be removed. it just has to use a new api… man is tweaking out for no reason

I read it, but it’s the fact that many people are pointing out issues with the TextChatService API, which likely won’t be fixed in the timeframe for migration. If you’re going to force people to move from an old and working, but buggy system to a new and working, but more restrictive system that impacts performance, you should fix those issues before announcing the change.

I suppose it’s not the worst thing in the world, but not having issues people have with the system being moved to getting fixed is more than concerning.

Now as for the custom chats, yeah Vetex might be tweakin.

you obviously have to move to this new system, your game isn’t gonna be put under review, the engine will literally force you. the issues with the new TextChatService are bad but roblox is actually actively working on a complete rewrite of their UI library (and hopefully corescripts) called Foundation which will hopefully resolve these issues. much of this stuff isn’t really public knowledge, so it is understandable for people to be worried. for the people who know though, it won’t be that big of a deal. im quite excited actually for roblox to be able to put more work into new systems to help the future of the platform rather than sitting back and supporting old and deprecated things (which mind you they do really well at).

looks like the purpose of it is so that people who have chat disabled in parental controls aswell as xbox players wont be able to access custom chats, which is perfectly fair

fortunately for me i dont often use custom chats in anything i work on, but the rules on it are pretty vague and confusingly written, and roblox as well as twitter accounts like bloxy news painted this as FAR bigger than it is, so i dont blame any of the devs who are mad about this

I’m hella confused, could he not just use the CanUserChatWhateverAsync to enable/disable the message function? like…

Xbox and Playstation chat support is actually coming pretty soon. Sometime in the next few months at least. So it only applies to parental controls.

wait what about wom im sure it uses a messaging system similar to aos so could this be the end of wom…

It’s best to finally let that game rest

You’re misunderstanding; yes, this is a (required) solution by January 2025. However, chats have to make a FULL migration to TextChatService by April 2025
