Not to burst your bubble but it would be absolutely dogshit, it wouldn’t even be good against npcs and it being cool is not a reason to add a shitty spell with little to no use in any situation

Then that means hitstun which means people will abuse it by comboing it with other people and even if you made it almost like a grab(which isn’t even a bad idea tbh) it would just be a beam attack with grab functionality meaning all other magic grabs are useless

Literally everyone agrees that a continuous beam spell would be absolutely shitty in a game with combat as fast paced as this, you are asking your opponent to kill you if you use this and it wouldn’t even be useful against npcs cause they know how to dodge better than you do

a continous beam spell could work if its implemented correctly.
i’m not saying it wouldn’t work functionally, i’m saying it would be completely ass at every aspect of the game and would be completely useless.
Let’s say it works like beams in Final Stand worked: You get hit with it and it pushes you back to the end of the beam. You could hit npcs head on with it or predict player movement and have them run into it, pushing them back. Final Stand was an extremely fast paced game expecially late-game and beams never left the meta. Beams were a high risk high reward tool and it could be the same in AO
that’s just effectively a grab then, and that was my solution in the first place, so you really didn’t help at all.

how is a ranged beam the same as a grab? A grab moves your hitbox and hurtbox whereas a beam would keep your hurtbox in one place while putting out an extended hitbox. That’s like saying explosions and blasts are effectively the same thing just cause they both do damage in one place.
a ranged beam with hitstun/knockback like the way you describe it is effectively a grab because it stuns the person youre attacking in one place so you can damage them with the rest of the attack.
