The PVP toggle will ruin the game. Here's my idea for an alternative that will 100% please everybody

gonna be honest, and I know it’s really controversial, but I also will really miss the little tension that open world PvP gave. Sharks, sea monsters, and other pve monsters practically give no tension, (the only exception being high level Atlanteans) and getting rid of the open world PvP sort of makes the game seem even more like an endless grinding simulator.

I know that practically no one shares my views on this, but I wanted to say then anyways.

Then simply automatically enable combat when you enter the Dark Sea.

What is the point of a “Clan Server”.

Then we can find ways to implement non pvp risks in game, like those raids, dark sea bosses, random monster encounters, and things that will be a lot more thrilling than player and player combat.

People want this because it offers more convenience while you still have the ability to fight if wanted. For example, implementation of dueling systems in casual servers, where there are set boundaries which a player cannot cross until another is defeated or until combat wears off. Your arbitrary ability to attack and kill anyone you can for the sake of killing them is not a necessity for this game to survive. Its an irritation.

Ad hominem is not required, anyways, I do support this idea of realms,
REALM 1
Casual servers where people are automatically put upon starting a new file, and where combat is automatically disabled for everyone, where infamy doesn’t exist, and where you can create PVE clans (as aforementioned, you cannot gain infamy). This is also where you cant cross lets say, 20,000 renown but can still gain titles for exploration EX: Explorer, Diver, Angler, Philosopher etc. You can still of course build forts and castles within this server but with different building material and parts that aren’t as good as the ones in realm 2, finally you can also duel in this, but you have to click a player and to give them an option to duel, where there are set boundaries (pretty spacious).

REALM 2
Clan Servers, where once you get to the level of at least 100, your file can freely teleport to this server, where combat is automatically enabled (obviously permanently here), where infamy is enabled, and the only place you can create PVP clans, and create reinforced castles and buildings with much more material and efficiency than realm 1. You can get as much renown as pleased but here you can only get risky or high valued titles, such as epicenter, abolitionist, and true captain (meaning you’d have to go to another server just to get basic non dark sea related titles, but Vetex, you can change this if you’d like). Also , all Dark Sea content is ONLY enabled here to keep the risk factor and difficulty. And obviously you can attack everyone freely.

REALM 3
This is just the Elysium lol.

This very sentence, lmao

It couldn’t be more false.
Other players are an additional hurdle that randomly comes around if anything, it’s not as if a level 140 clanless player is going to get attacked by anyone who actually cares about the game. Hell, even if PvP did ‘balance’ the game (make its skinner boxes even worse), that wouldn’t be how to solve it.

I understand this is bait, but don’t you think those thousands of players don’t play AO because there’s nothing like the PvP toggle?

it may well not be bait, I’m sure there’s a few very selfish and very delusional people who genuinely believe what this guy’s spouting and that non-competitive players are worthless NPCs that exist to be a source of renown/bounty/infamy.

you do realize the active playercount has almost doubled after the pvp toggle was announced right
I also see a good chunk of players returning (atleast those on my friend’s list)
it’s actually the PvErs that bring most of the playtime and profit as well, a majority of the AO community is PvE and PvErs do stick around, if you are a sole PvPhead you wouldn’t understand it unlike someone who does both

i think it’s a mix of
A. it’s the weekend
B. PVP TOGGLE LETS GO BABY and
C. oh this game i like just pinged me i wanna go play it again

This reads like blatant entitled ragebait, but I’ll bite. Your argument accurately explains why this PvP toggle is being added. 600-1k players is hardly sustainable, and a change that’s getting 12k people interested in even considering playing this game is a good step in the right direction. Now whether it works or not is dependent on whether proper sustainable PvE content gets added or not, but its abundantly clear that the vast majority of people don’t like getting jumped randomly and just want to play the games PvE content for what it is.

Also “Baby Realm”, “blox fruits ‘players’ with 0 skill”, “real players”. the amount of entitlement over jumping fresh level 50s at sailor’s lodge is painfully obvious :skull:

Nah ion wanna

Now granted I do understand why this may feel like another kick in the teeth to PvP players, but frankly at this point what do you expect. Vetex hates PvP players and I wouldn’t be surprised if a driving factor for adding this was because he was sick of getting jumped by the very people he pissed off lmao

If you want to PvP fair enough, if anything this PvP toggle should make it easier for you to find people actually worth fighting rather than just pissing off the average joe. But what do I know, everything about this game is an enigma.

this guy in particular said

lmao this guy is literally the problem
