The Sharkara

It’s been a week at sea, and there have been no sea monsters, at least none worth hunting… You begin to regret even coming to the event. Maybe you should have just stayed home and sparred, it would have been more entertaining.

Suddenly, a loud roar sounds from below the armada of ships known as the Three Serpents. Almost automatically your body prepares for battle, and as you find yourself standing face to face with an enormous sea monster, you remember what you came here to do.

Let’s kill some monsters.

THE SHARKARA: “First time?”

The Sharkara takes place every ingame year(or maybe every real life week/month?) and it will have a huge announcement that tells you if it’s going to start or not, so don’t worry about actually keeping track of each in game day until it’s a year.

It will last for as long as it takes for you to find the Big Bad Monster. You have one ingame day to sign up for the Sharkara in your server.

Once you get the notification on your screen or inbox, go to the Chiefs throne room.

If this is your first time, you’ll have to do a questline before you are allowed to participate in the Sharkara without any problems.

Questline: An interesting event, part 1

P: player
C: Chief
P1: option one
P2: option two

C, surprised to see you but also pleased to see a familiar face: “Ah. I remember you… you are the one who helped us drive that outsider out. The strong one. What brings you here? Do you need help with anything? After all, we do still owe you for that favour.”

P1: “I was just passing by and I heard of an upcoming event known as the Sharkara, and I would like to participate.”

P2: “No, that’s okay. I was just passing by, I’ll be leaving now.”

C, angry and somewhat offended: “What did you just say? Do you understand what the Sharkara even is? We can’t just let anyone participate, whether you helped me with one thing or not. You have to be from Redwake to participate by default.”

C, calmed down a bit: “Ahem… excuse me. I was just surprised by your question. I am debted to you after all, I can let you join just this once.”

P1: “Thank you! I didn’t count on you accepting my offer.”

P2: “Nevermind… I think I should go.”

C, pleased once again: “Mhm. You are a friend, after all. Go to the Shipwright. There, you will see three ships known as the Three Serpents. After a day, we will depart, but you still have to go as soon as you can to sign up. Oh, and have this sword as proof of my approval.”

Quest item: Shark Cutlass

Questline: An interesting event, part 2

Go to the Redwake shipwright.

RS: shipwright

RS, turning to meet you: “I remember you. [PLAYER NAME], right? What brings you here?”

P1: “I’ve been given permission by the Chief to participate in the Sharkara. I’m here to sign up.”

P2: “Don’t worry about it, I’m out of here.”

RS, bringing out a sheet of paper and a pencil: “…I see. Do you have any proof? I’ll have to ask the Chief myself. It’s not that I don’t trust you…”

P1: “I have proof.”(show shark cutlass)

P2: “Yeesh, tight security, huh? I’ll be on my way then.”

RS, surprised, writing down your name on paper: “Oh, the chief’s sword! I’ll sign you right now.”

Questline: Boarding the ship, part 1

You will be teleported to a different server, one with a special “Hunting Area” map for redwake. Don’t worry about driving the ship, for the first time the NPCs will drive and you only have to worry about looking for monsters.

For the majority of the week, you will be given some sort of scavenger hunt quest to find and defeat sea monsters. Sharks will also be around, so be wary of them. You can gain a special reward if you successfully complete the mini quest(expanded on later)

After 2 in game days, the main storyline of the quest will progress. After this next quest, it’ll be over.

It’d be cool if they were unique mini sea monsters, but it also can just be shark variants.

Each time you go into combat, the ship will stop moving. You can leave the ship if you want, but you can’t spawn your own ship.

Questline: A terrifying surprise, part 1

A sea monster known as the Hydra will appear, and the Redwake warriors can’t deal with the behemoth alone.

If you don’t deal a lot of damage, the ship will suffice at least if the NPC doesn’t do too bad of a job/is lucky. The ships will automatically circle the hydra, and if the captain of the ship dies, you have to control it.

You can choose between two options: Killing the Hydra, or rescuing crewmates.

Crewmates will be in the way of the targets attacks. If you run to the crewmate and press F, you can push them out of the way, saving them. This action makes you briefly immune to the hydras attacks.

You can choose to kill the hydra with your own power while sacrificing the ship, but saving the crewmates as well, or just focus entirely on killing the Hydra. If you manage to do both, you can get a special reward.
(this only applies to YOUR ship, other ships will be exempt)

If you can’t kill the Hydra, instead wait for 5 minutes while preserving your allies lives. After that, 8 Redwake Ketches will defeat the Hydra, and the quest will move forward.

Questline: A terrifying surprise, part 2(Savior)

If you choose to save the crewmates over defeating the beast, the chief will commend you and allow you to participate in future Sharkara events. You will be given a special trophy sword, the Redwake original Tiger Shark Sword.

“Once again, I am indebted to you. These were some of my best warriors, and it would have been troublesome to lose them. Thank you.”

Questline: A terrifying surprise, part 2(Warmonger)

If you choose to kill the hydra over saving the crewmates, the Chief will be understanding but also disappointed the majority of the crew on your ship died. The NPC’s on your ship are also identical to the NPC’s on Redwake island, so if they died in the quest you won’t be seeing them again. This includes the Armourer and the Blacksmith, instead a new NPC will replace them with a backstory.
You can still participate in Sharkara… but any surviving NPC’s that were on your ship will be wary of you.

“Consider it even. I owe you nothing.”

Questline: A terrifying surprise, part 2(Legend)

If you manage to not only kill the Hydra but also come back with no causalities other than the captain of the ship, you will be allowed to participate in Sharkara as well as use your OWN ship if you like, and you will be awarded with the Lurker Shark Cutlass, which is especially tailored to killing sea monsters.

“I am thoroughly indebted to you! Here I was, thinking that we would be even after this, but you not only defeated the beast but managed to come back with everyone on my crew alive! The crew wasn’t equipped to deal with a Hydra, especially a very large one, but you pulled through. As a token of gratitude, have my sword.”

After this, you can visit the Sharkara freely with other players.

SHARKARA: Monsters and Targets

You will be given a list of targeted monsters that you’ll want to hunt, and each one will come with it’s own rewards. After writing an entire storyline, I’m sorta burned out so I won’t go through the trouble of finding cool monsters, a suitable reward for said monster, and a unique way to redeem these rewards, HOWEVER! In order to redeem a reward, you have to get a drop from the monster you killed and turn it in to the shipwright.

Sea monsters have a guaranteed drop in the Sharkara, although they can’t be used for anything but redeeming them to prevent abuse.

White eyes can be spotted in this event.

Yeah vetex is dangling this in front of us. Good job, really well done. On the sea monsters: Hydra(done), Hel’s Beacon(Anglerfish type monster), Kiir do Lein(Sea serpent type monster), Muse of Death(Fiddler crab but big), Sanguine Squid(Large vampire squid). Thanks for taking inspiration from my post, hope this actually happens.

Key, how.

I love this idea and would kill for something like this, but my main concern would be the amount of effort required for it (and if we could redo the questline to get each reward from Saving/Defeating/Both). That said, it could give more than enough reasons for players to return every week or so and it could be really fun, provided Shura doesn’t lower the pH values of the water a second time.

Hell, call me insane, but I think something like this could rival the Dark Sea in terms of replayability.

What I was thinking would be: the quest unlocks the hunting area, and then every time there’s a BIG event in Redwake/ whatever gov’t rules over Redwake(this would be good when we get to that specific sea) ) where you can hunt with ai crew like in Black Flag(could have a white whale and bring back Ahab)

Yeah, that’s the plan. It’s supposed to yield rewards that make it worth it to replay. Also, what do you mean how??

I planned for it to be a mostly player run event, with NPC’s being there in stand in for missing players. One player will be the captain of one ship, so if there are 4 players 3 of them are captains and 1 of them is a deckhand.

Being a captain just means you have to deal with the bigger enemies. Or, NPCs will be captains and players will be deckhands. The Hydra would also make a reappearance, but won’t be a major enemy.

I also forgot to make a moveset for the hydra… oh well.

this would go hard but themed

Indeed!

I meant “How” as in “how tf is this so good”

To expand:
image
the three serpents(from small to large):Fáfnir, Kiir Lein, Jörmungandr. Harpoons and nets and maybe even swords would be used to fight. Possible rewards: Hydra- Hydra whip, Hel’s Beacon- Staff of Sickly Light, Kiir do Lein-no idea, Sanguine squid- Toothed helmet
Yeah key I am stunned by this suggestion and how good it is.

Honestly all event suggestions are instant votes for me

GOATED.

Also, a bit of inspiration with the atmosphere-setting with those short stories I see!

this is super cool, but I have an issue with the quest. A one time quest that has consequences the player may not know seems unfair, especially when prioritising the crew gets you a one of a kind weapon. I’d scrap the different parts personally, or at least make it redoable

It was pretty late when I made this, so I forgot to add a few things, but I planned for there to be some sort of hint, like a message saying,

“With your current strength, you won’t be able to kill the Hydra while also saving the crew members… you’ll have to choose.”

or

“The crew members aren’t prepared to kill this sea monster, and neither are you. Buy time until the main Redwake ships arrive, and try to keep everyone on your ship safe with the captain gone.”

Of course, players can still try to kill the Hydra while saving crewmates, but the quest will be available at level 80, so I don’t expect players to be super strong.

cool

Wait since the Chief thanks you and gives you HIS sword, shouldn’t it be the Greatsword instead of a cutlass? Like “Runic Greatsword” or “Redwake Greatsword” and it could have like water effects. Just spitballing.

Does make me wonder if there are any other events in-universe that could be implemented

Very nice idea except for the rewards for the one time quest, even if it tells you that you are too weak for one of the “endings” that still has the issue of you getting different rewards. This forces players to only do the Sharkara at a high enough level for the legend ending because using your own ship is HUGE.

I feel as though you should gain nothing exclusive from each ending and they merely give different cutscenes and better rewards like galleons or sea monster parts, they should just be different ways you could beat the quest instead of being viewed as different rewards you can get from the quest when the real reason for doing the quest is permanent access to the Sharkara

How about: The questline is fully scripted so that you get the sharkfang unobtainable sword. But, if you do well at the other Sharkaras you get the Chief’s sword. And whatever you get from the monsters ofc.

The quest could just be repeated every time a monster is spotted near redwakw

Would not make sense lore wise
