Think up your own faction for AO

Can be whatever, anti-magic, pro-magic, wants everybody dead, wants to revive a god, or whatever with an edgy name like Blade of Night or something else. Go wild since I’m curious to see what people will brew up lmao

Sunrise Faction, bound to take over all the islands and have everyone live in peace and unity
(also bye bye sea curses)

F.R.O.S.T

a group dedicated to the collection, preservation, and trade of lost and ancient magic scrolls.

The antonym is actually the step by step process for what to do when finding and retrieving a scroll:

Figure out what type of scroll you’re looking for
Request allies to help you
Obtain the target scroll
Share your find with other members
Take the rewards from using it or trading it

In my own lore i have that faction named “Sun Forge”. Bascily SCP in Arcane universe:

  • They capture magic-mutated anomalies
  • They study legendary weapons in order to replicated them and learn ways to create new ones
  • They try to create new magics and spell
  • They contain and study anomalies they have very diviated magic from “normal” magics (for example if user can fully control gravity magic in a sense that they can manipulate direction of gravitational pull, and not only enchance it as users do with usual gravity.)

I have one but it’s more like a syndicate than a faction, and it pertains only to my AU.

It’s called the Starlight Crusaders (haha funny) because their main goal is to defeat the user of the Starlight Curse because of his immense power and plans for destruction. They basically just aid the Silverians (enemies of the Starlians) as well as the normal Arcane Odyssey stuff to get stronger so they can eventually match his power

also i’m not keen on the name either i might change it. originally it was called the Valk gang since all members wore the valkyrie helmet but i stopped doing that since it limited creativity

rename your guild to cryocult pls

I’ll make up one now:

  • Sky island alliance: The main reason for this alliance is to prevent sea people from getting access to the sky. Think about it. If you’re a nation that lives on a sky island, there might be a sea-based empire beneath you, but they’d have to leave you alone if your position makes you too difficult to attack. However, if they were able to conquer a different sky island, perhaps one that has something like the sea cannon vicinity from AA near it, they could use that island as a jumping-off point. They could begin sending their troops up and loading them onto sky ships and suddenly every sky island in the vicinity would be vulnerable. This alliance would attempt to 1. fortify sky islands that sea people have some natural way of traveling to 2. restrict the number of powerful mages (based on magic sensing) that can travel to the sky islands 3. monopolize sky products (like sky grapes in AA) 4. establish buffer states on the sea islands near/below accessible sky islands. They would refuse to join the grand navy for obvious reasons

Alchemists’ Safety Secured, or ASS, is a Union dedicated to keeping our wizards who give our weapons and armors funky functions safety. Too often are the working class of the Bronze Seas exploited for tyrant nobles, religious nutjobs, and 18 year-olds with amnesia. Alchemists are people too and so ASS strives to work out deals with towns 'n settlements so the hard working class wizards could make a nice penny while also not having to work 25 hours of the day.

While ASS is primarily devoted to protecting our alchemist brothers and sisters against exploitation, they are also really into recruiting and training new alchemists to help somewhat alleviate the load. So anyone looking to advance their alchemic career should really partner with them. Proper training from pros and protection from exploitation. It’s a dream come true. Any 18 year-olds with amnesia should really look into it.

The Hunter’s Guild: Based around the fact that there will (probably) be a Vampirism fighting style, the Hunter’s Guild is a group of individuals whose goal is to hunt down and destroy these vampires. They imbue their fists and weapons with Light magic (specifically the sunlight variant) in order to deal the most damage to them. (also have a Bloodborne hunter aesthetic)

The Mages Guild and officially the Society of Mages.

This faction is neutral, focused on the research of Magic and the history of Mages in society. The faction does not attack unless provoked.

Also, who thinks faction based side storylines would be interesting?

Thought of another one:

  • The magic-user alliance, an alliance of nations with governments run exclusively or almost exclusively by magic users. Their rules often don’t explicitly deny power to non-magic-users, but they have rules such as “must live 150 years in order to vote” or their royal families and nobles were magic users that conquered the kingdom they rule. Their ideology is that magic users are responsible for all progress in society, while non-magic-users only use resources unsustainably, and dump problems onto future generations, if left to their own devices. The goals of the alliance are 1. to keep its members in power 2. eugenics

M.M.M.

something about moonlight cult religion magic, idk

I would love to see Faction based storylines such as the ones in the Elder Scrolls series.

Nothing. I just read incorrectly.

Can we continue this please.

Posted this shit on AO Ideas Trello so might as well copy paste it here:

Massive-ass idea:

Organization: The Pendant’s Axis

Overview

The Pendant’s Axis is a organization/ cult formed around 600 years ago. To make it short, they are essentially a group believed that they are “fulfilling the will of creation” by purging the world of all non-magic users. They are hated and feared among even the most evil and chaotic of groups in the Arcane Universe due too the extreme lengths that they go to fulfill their goal of “purifying humankind”. Their current leader simply goes by the alias “One” and is rumored to wield the extremely powerful “apocalypse bringer” magic

Lore Relevance

The history of Pendant’s Axis

Y1,247

A small group consisting of around 30 people is formed somewhere on a random island in the middle of the sea, not much is known about this group besides the fact that they seemed to worship curses and the leader had and external curse. It is believed that they were formed after the group came together and massacred the population of 200 of the people living in their village, leaving only them behind.

Y1,269

The unnamed group gains more followers as they go around the world claiming to be “descendants of creation”, it is said that they numbered around 400 members at the time.

Y1,301

A mysterious man believed to be a powerful curse user massacres most of the followers of the group, including the leader and original members

Y1,423

For a long time, the group remained disbanded and seemingly forgotten, until one day a man named Adrian Echo discovers ancient scrolls containing writings and the beliefs of the unnamed group. Inspired and feeling touched by the writing, he creates a group based around the beliefs of the unnamed group with one core difference: Instead of worshipping curses, he grossly misinterpreted it into where he believed that creation was the origin of all magic and that those “Chosen by Creation” were blessed with magic. Adrian would proceed to go around spreading the claims and writings to reform the group. This group would see moderate success from mainly magic users, which were the only people allowed in the group. He names this group “The Pendant’s Axis”, based on the pendant containing strong ancient magic energy that he discovered._

For a long time the group grows and gains moderate success, Adrian Echo was eventually killed in battle and a new leader took over, the group would continue to grow and loose/ gain leaders. With the growth of members and the change of leaders, the beliefs and methods of the group would also change.

Y1,804 - Y1,805

Pendant’s Axis has around 600 members, all of which are magic users. They had just been claimed a “criminal group” by the recently formed Arcane Government, causing a few to leave the group out of fear. This would lead to the two organizations becoming mortal enemies and would lead to a battle between the highest ranks of both organizations that would last about a year. Something to note is that they had three beliefs at the time:

  • One: All “beings of chaos” are considered the most impure amongst all and must be killed, this included curse users, those contaminated by magic pollution, and gods (including the undead ones).

  • Two: Those that are impure (humans without magic) must be cleansed from the world. All non-magic users would be killed on sight.

  • Three: The leader of the group, signified by the pendant that has been passed down from Adrian Echo, is a part of the “will of creation”. This makes them supreme and have complete control over any part of the group

Y1,843

One day, a mysterious man killed the leader of the group. He claimed to be “The true descendant of creation” and demonstrated his ungodly powers by destroying an entire island with a singular blast. This man claimed to be called “One” and essentially made the organization a cult. It is believed that his power level is similar to that of Averill

Y1,853 - Y1,854

The Pendant’s Axis reaches over 1000 numbers, they have purged many and are considered the strongest group in the world, having complete control in the shadows. They aren’t seen in AA as they are on the other side of the world, however it is implied they have tried to reach out to recruit Theos (to their failure). During 1,854, they attempted to go to war with durza, only to get completely obliterated, loosing over 3/4ths of their entire member count. Eventually, after Durza is defeated and basically fucks up the entire world AGAIN, The group actually GAINS a large chunk of members due to many having a fear of curses and needing something to protect them. They would possibly appear multiple times in AO to either sabotage, or attempt to recruit the player. To this day, they are feared and hated by basically everyone that isn’t them.

Ingame
Ingame, The Pendant’s Axis is a joinable group similarly to the A.S. and G.N. They are mostly prominent in the second sea of the game where their base would be and 1 optionable boss + 2 optionable mini-bosses would be fightable. You would mainly be doing tasks similarly to bounties where you could possibly pass letter to magic-user NPCs, kill players/ NPCs without magic, and climb the ranks. You would ONLY be able to join them if you are either a pure Mage or a magic-hybrid (savant does not count). They are more prominent in the third or fourth sea in the game as you would encounter “One” and depending on the players power at that stage ingame, fight them (optional boss fight) and eventually disband the group. Do note these fights wouldn’t be optional if you are IN the group and wouldn’t even be fightable.
The main building in the second sea would be on a MASSIVE island that houses several buildings and a massive church-like building where you can join. Do note that you can’t join as a magic user and everyone there will attempt to attack you. There you would be given the prompt to join the clan and once you join, you set your spawn point there and are given tasks daily to assassinate multiple non-magic NPCs each day. The second quest type would be to hand “letters” to magic-using NPCs, increasing your standing in the clan. This is actually also the second way to join the organization as randomly spawning NPCs could possibly try and recruit you if you have high renown/ fame and are a magic-user.
The Pendant’s Axis will actually NEVER attack you (unless attacked of course) if you are a magic user. They WILL attack you however if: You are in the Grand Navy or Assassin’s Syndicate, Do NOT have magic on your build, have killed multiple of the NPC’s in the organization, have fought the boss in the game’s second sea. Most of the NPC’s , or have crew members with you (assuming that they don’t have magic). Hostile or not seem to usually be quite insane/ immoral, saying absolutely crazy things; Even the higher ranks seem to have some screws loose with them.
Joining the guild instantly makes every faction/ organization in the game hate you
