Thoughts on roblox changing user IDs

Just wanted to know what everyone else’s opinion(s) are on the matter?

I am honestly worried that my progress in some games are going to be potentially lost when the update rolls out.

I didn’t really know that was a thing, since I have bigger things to worry about regarding roblox right now.
Namely the fact that it just closes on its own after a few minutes and there’s nothing I can do about it

tic-tac-toe forehead man explains it pretty well here

literally no benefit whatsoever

abhorrent dogshit :-1:

They are literally making using UserId significantly more complicated, as before it was a generalized key to identify a player.

It’s genuinely a horrible change, there’s literally no benefit to it, as it will even start to break datastores for new players, existing ones keep UserId.

My theory is that User.Id can possibly overlap with UserId, causing the new user with User.Id to gain moderation abilities/data from the UserId person, if I’m right; that’s genuinely horrible.

Ah the weekly dogshit change from roblox

what the fuck did I miss

never heard of that

In case source couldn’t be found, here’s the developer forum link:

yooo ur old pfp is back!

Who actually cares? I swear people just shit on any roblox changes because it’s the popular thing to do. Unless you’re a developer, this literally doesn’t affect you.

uhh, actually it does by a LOT. more weirdos on every game. please actually think about the consequences before speaking

in simple terms: it’ll be INCREDIBLY hard to game ban someone and thus more weirdos around due to player IDs being changed for any game they haven’t played pre-update. there’s literally someone who was found to be a condo game player who said that they liked the update on the roblox forums, and you’ll have to deal with more hackers, pedos [1] and other people generally not nice to be around

Bit ironic ain’t it? You complain about people complaining about Roblox.

It doesn’t matter at face-value for the general populace, but if researched even slightly further, shows that granting permissions, banning or doing anything with newer players[1] would become incredibly difficult.

A particular case I really do not enjoy, is that publized ban lists, such as RbxRuleBreakers could no longer be updated, granted it is archived at the moment, but my point still stands that these lists would basically become useless as new players join, as they do not have Player.UserId, but rather Player.User.Id.

  1. This is due to the Returning players section of the Documentation stating; “If a player already joined your experience before the scoped user ID rollout, they keep their original global user ID in that experience. This ensures existing data store keys, leaderboards, and inventories continue to work without any changes.” ↩︎

uh yeah police? this man right here.

Everyone (nobody) wanted this amazing (horrible) change !!! It will benefit (continue the inevitable descent) of Roblox for a long time (four months until the platform collapses).

This is awesome!

Now I have something (else) to point to whenever someone “on, that’d be bad for the platform, Roblox wouldn’t do that, there would be no benefit!”

Good job, Roblox! I have even more evidence that you legitimately cannot stop making the dumbest decisions I’ve ever heard of!

this probably exists solely to get rid of ban lists

Nah there are cases of people tracking a person’s whereabouts. I’ve only seen ONE example of it though, and it was even used in a positive way to show that a developer was literally doing anything besides developing (I am referring to Essence who used to be in the Bridger: Western dev team.) This small discord group tracked his studio time (literal minutes) and then showed his hours on random slop.

I don’t know why you’d care about this “breach in privacy” unless you were doing something wrong, but it’s Roblox so this is to be expected.

how would a person’s user id be capable of getting someone’s geolocation aside from what country they live in

these same people are the ones who went batshit insane on the devforum because we were mocking their goon content avatars that we could easily look up before they added outfit privacy for some reason
