can’t believe @Tr0xic’s suggestion from months back came to be lmao
personally, i don’t like the addition, i feel it pushes the hunger mechanic into energy rather than reworking the hunger gauge. the energy gauge as it is in live game currently seems more intuitive, such as by reducing spam (the more attacks you mash out, the more time you need to dedicate renewing your energy). i do understand wanting to rework hunger while still maintaining food in some way, but i prefer as it is now vs the upcoming.
obviously, this is all theoretical, it could be more fun actually playing, but i’m curious to everyone’s thoughts on it, especially testers/devs
Personally I’m not too big of a fan of the new system either but I do like some of the additional perks of the new combined gauge such as the new saturation being a temporary health booster. I like your opinion on the topic because I feel like if they keep the energy system and hunger bar separate but the new effects still stay the same, then it can work as good or even better than it is right now. This post was good and thanks for expressing your opinion!
I’m in the middle with it, on one hand it’s nice that hunger will finally serve a purpose outside of being a glorified anti-afk mechanic. But on the other hand this may make grinding enemies a bit more tedious depending on how long you plan to grind
So you would rather have a rework to how hunger depletes than simply merging it with energy?
With this system, it’ll only take a few seconds to eat several meals, and you can also eat a meal while fighting like drinking a seawater pot with sailor style. I honestly believe this system would be more beneficial as it forces people to scavenge and fish more often or simply buy ingredients from shopkeepers and mass-produce food with the new cooking revamp, therefore giving more thought into this feature rather than only surviving off coconuts.
(i have several slots of 500+ meals btw)
You can’t afk overnight with our current system unless you eat 1k+ hunger beforehand or starve over and over again losing you money, the new system will make it easy to afk (assuming your device can handle it).
i feel like this would make long term grinding easier, if anything. you’ll burn through faster, but you’re also dishing damage out faster
not necessarily what i said, though depending on how it’s done it may be neat. i’m just saying, at the very least, i prefer as it is over as it will be
i can kinda see what you’re saying, it’ll definitely burn through food easier (especially considering i have a shitton of food from my chef),
maybe just me but i don’t like the idea of afking (be it for infamy/clan resources and whatnot)
this seems like a bad thing tbh, falls into powercreep
it fulfills the same function (more or less) of refilling a meter generally, just a different gauge that depends on actions rather than overall living. i like the idea of hunger not killing you but restraining your abilities, but that should be it’s own hunger gauge, while keeping energy as is
… Yeah. This is an RPG. It is literally the powercreep genre.
I don’t. It’s a meter you have to manage so that you aren’t performing sub-optimally, and the only thing you get out of managing it properly is not starving. You get punished for not managing it, and you aren’t even rewarded when you do manage it. Its only purpose is being fucking annoying.
maybe powercreep wasn’t the right term, but to better elaborate, a new universal feature being powerful enough to make another aspect useless (spell cost) is too powerful on the basis of balancing the game to itself
I find it funny because I can imagine the comedic scene of two people throwing hands and then eating 400 hunger meals mid-fight because they ran out of energy
Like some people in the comments said, you have all these people praising this change, but all they really did was turn the hunger bar blue and named it “energy”
having to charge mid fight leaves an opening for a counter attack, and choosing when and where to recharge actually added a layer of skill to combat
and most importantly, energy recharging (for now) is FREE. this update would force people to start grinding for food
in the video we see every attack cost 4 energy. doesnt seem like a lot, but when youre getting into multiple fights, doing dueling with friends, and even just testing spells it seems like itll run out quick. all i can think about is how im going to have to start grinding perfect cooking meals for all my poor alt files that survived just fine off of apples and coconuts
conclusion: update is forcing a once optional mechanic (cooking), making it effectively mandatory, and adding another grind to the game
why do you have to afk overnight unless you were running some fishing macro or something? very, very niche benefit that doesnt apply to the vast majority of players
With the removed passive energy recharge from awakening, eating definitely isn’t TOO much of a hassle for maxed out files, but I can definitely see it being an annoyance for in-progress files or in the long run
this is a concern especially for poor files and new players. theyre going to see this mechanic and be “huh? i cant do anything if im not collecting tons of food? seems grindy”
i could buy 20 apples from the food merchant for 40 galleons and it would always last me around 40 minutes or so, but when youre pvping and doing stuff all the time, i doubt those 200 apples will last very long
even then, itll be ~200 apples, when right now its much less. having to eat 200 apples worths of food vs only having to eat 20 from time to time, theres a big difference
honestly this update would not even be THAT bad if you could still hold shift to charge energy for free, but it would be slower, and food would be a way to do it faster and gain saturation
