(Game requested by @ponsru21)
Neon Knights, according to it’s in-game description, is a RPG game with rogue-lite elements, while also technically being a dungeon crawler.
In the game, you fight off robots with various weapons, such as guns, grenades and swords.
But the main attraction of the game is the damn quirks you have to grind for (and also dungeons, yeah.), you can basically make infinite possibilities of guns at your disposal with this feature.
Another power booster in this game are items, which are sold in the middle of the dungeons by various characters in game, mainly Mo-Co, which seems to be the Corporation behind alot of things.
From Mo-Co, you can purchase vending machine items from their vending machines, mainly soda’s, or snacks from the Snax Vending Machine, ngl, The Soda Vending machines are a bigger investment in the long run, especially during event dives and special dives (will talk about those later), since soda’s gives %-based bonuses, and has a very rare Omnisoda variant, which acts as a soda that gives the effect of every soda, and stacks with the already purchased ones.
So…let’s talk about the main mechanics of the game shall we?
Guns:
-The Main in-game weaponry, there are currently 4 variants:
1.Short Gun-basically your average pistol, well rounded stats.
2.Shotgun-very short range, but hits like a truck with 2-7 bullets depending on your luck with rolling shotgun quirks and stats.
3.Machine Gun-The Backbone of the Neon Knights gun meta , now ruined because of a nerf, and now i am furious.Has the highest DPS out of any gun listed here, while Shotguns/Sniper rifles deal the most raw damage.
4.Long Gun-Basically sniper rifles.Fire slowly, but deal high raw damage and have the highest range out of all listed guns, while also having the highest accuracy most of the time.
Sword Variants:
1.Light Blade-well rounded stats with fast attack rate, can be animation-cancelled, allowing you to rapidly hit the same enemy rapidly…However…the finishers of melee weapons hit like a truck, so animation-cancelling is situational.
2.Dual Blades-Very fast boys with slightly shorter range.Have the unique property of dealing stacking damage per hit, up to 250% increased damage on the same target. This bonus lasts until you miss.
3.Heavy Blades-A Hunk of steel that hits the hardest, but is really slow.Offers the longest dash distance out of all weapons. It’s final hit always stuns enemies, even those nearby that weren’t hit.
4.Pointed Blades-Basically spears, finishers make you throw them, which deal a truckload of damage, hitting a enemy with the point of the spear deals increased damage.
There are also discplines, which change the combo animations and damage of each discipline, which are Knight and Lord, Knight being more aggressive, while Lord is more precise, here is what discipline i would recommend for each weapon that i tried out:
1.Light Blade-Knight
2.Heavy Blades-Lord for chasing enemies and Crowd Control, Knight for Single-target.
3.Pointed Blade-Lord, the spin in the animation multi-hits, while the Spin in Knight discipline is a large AOE that dosen’t multi-hit, i think.
Grenades:
Grenades are AOE throwables that can also have certain quirks from guns, and also their own exclusive quirks, i barely use them now and instead i use wall-buddies, let’s talk about them:
Wall Buddies:
Wall Buddies, when activated, buff a certain stat, which depends on the wall buddy you have. These things also have exclusive things, here are the stat variants:
1.Health:Gives temporary free shield on use.Who uses this?
2.Speed:Makes the player faster, obviously.Important for Flux Dives, which i’ll talk about later.
3.Stamina-increases stamina charge rate, and gives an additional stamine charge while active.
4.Gear Damage-Increases gear damage, by gear i mean swords and grenades.
5.All Damage-gives a weaker damage boost compared to Gear Damage, but it applies to everything.
Just like in your average Dungeon Crawler, these things have rarities! and you can obtain these things from chests during dives, purchasing them from vending machines (pretty effective, since you can get any rarity from this, and depending on your luck…you can even get the rarest Omega weapon.)
Or from gambling all the hard carbonite you earned into silly crates, atleast the opening animation is satisfactory, in my opinion.
There are 11 rarites, let’s talk about them:
1.Scrap
2.Basic
3.Common
4.Uncommon
5.Unique
6.Rare
7.Pristine
8.Experimental
9.Legendary
10.Alpha
11.Omega
-Rarity affects the chance of getting rare quirks onto the weapon, the amount of quirks the weapon gets (Omega having guaranteed 6 quirks, while Alpha has a chance to have 6 quirks), while rarity affects the chance of rolling good stats on a weapon.
However…this game thankfully has a pity system, the next crate you open after spending 1500 carbonite has a guaranteed chance to give a experimental weapon, has a chance to give a weapon of a rarity higher than Experimental.
An effective way of getting high-rarity guns is at the end of the penultimate and ultimate final regions of the game, the penultimate one’s final chest having a guaranteed experimental weapon if you fully activated all of the things that increase the difficulty of each room (really trying not to spoil the regions here), while the final chest in the final region has a guaranteed Legendary weapon.
Let’s talk about special dives and event dives i suppose:
EXP dives-The dive’s main mechanic is basically smashin in ULTRAKILL’s style system in a way with a regular dungeon run.In this mode…you gain exp from performing well, such as performing multi-kills, beating enemies in a short period of time, or the one that gives the most score:beating a room hitless, the highest rank you can obtain is True Rank, which i’ve got it like 3 times in my entire carreer, trust me, it’s really hard to get a true rank, but the main way is using melees (melees are OP in this game), because for some reason…melees at the intended level vs a enemy at the intended level, it one shots the enemy, for example:Hitting a enemy with a level 25 legendary sword three-one shots a average level 25 robot.
Even if i am a very good Exp Diver, that dosen’t mean my brain is smart enough for Ultrakill, nah i would be a dum dum at it.
Flux Dives-Flux Dives is the main source of Flux, which is used for your quirk forgery stuff, the main mechanic of this dungeon is a Heat Gauge, the higher the heat gauge, the more flux drops from enemies, but you take heat damage if it’s too high, which requires you to speedrun the region, while also juggling heat so that you gain alot of flux at the same time, really difficult, beware.
Good Tip, recommend using a speed-boosting wall buddy for speedrunning purposes, paired with a stamina buddy…you can quickly get to the next rooms without too much heat accumulating.
What makes Flux Dives a terror that makes me shiver my timbers is Elites, which are enemies with modifiers, which appears when you select a hard difficulty as a convoy host, i don’t remember all of the modifiers, so i am going to mention the most annoying ones you should proritize first:
1.Armored:Holy shit why is this A THING.Gives them a seperate health bar which takes normal amounts of damage, until you break their armor, they will take 99% less damage to their health.
2.Invisible:Makes the enemy model completely invisible, which can be very annoying depending on what enemy gets it, which lead me to die to them alot.
3.Tempered:A Modifier obtained from the pillars, which increase the difficulty of the game at your own volition.Makes enemies attack faster and hit like a truck while tempered.Hazards while tempered cause a explosion that deals 25 damage.
Now onto Event Dives:
Blank Hollow:The moment i heard of this event, i thought it was a horror scary-ahh event, but it was just a endless mode event for end-game players, the main gimmick of this dive is too complicated for my head to understand .This event will come back in 17 days as of the writing of this post.
Snow Delivery:A Christmas dive where you supposedly deliver presents to people? didn’t try it out yet, didn’t play The game for a year or less, AO addiction moment .
Secret Dives:
The Shallow:A Region with enemies from the first three regions, which have a very high chance to have the sludge modifier, and a small chance for the corroding modifier, the vending machines in this are rarely free, but all vending machines have a chance to explode, however.
???/Dreams:Not gonna say the method to getting there, but it’s only reserved for OP endgame players, due to the fact that all enemies there are level 99, randomly generated, and you can only get into this dungeon once per day, but awards something very powerful if you complete it deathless.
I suppose that’s all i have to say about Neon Knights , there are alot more features in the game, but i’ll let you discover them yourself.
Also, to the real NeonKnights players out here:
Since Frivolous got nerfed to the ground again, what do i replace the quirk for? here is my machine gun setup:
Dazing came with the weapon from what i remember, and from what i remember…it cannot be removed from it.
