This suggestion entails some interesting new mechanics for fighting most types of NPCs. It is also to make it easier on the PvE experience generally.
What are these banes?
Banes allow you to deal extra damage to a type of enemy. They will deal 20% - 50% more damage to that type of enemy.
They are similar to armor modifiers, however you can only add and have that one type on that one weapon.
As for magics and fighting styles, they get access to a scroll that allows them to change the type of damage bonus they want to add on to. It is a lot rarer but very worth it.
These banes do not apply to bosses.
Weapon banes and Magic/FS banes can be stacked.
Struggling with high level NPCs (I do not want to fight my friend’s level 260 savant rival, he deals 500 damage for no good reason a lot of the time)? Try Banes, they are additive to your power stat/base damage and will help greatly!

Reason to add/change
I understand that next update, NPCs will be easier to dodge, however, our attacks are probably still going to get blocked or parried really hard. Not to mention the AoE of several NPCs that would not be easy to dodge out of. This ensures people to have a better reason to farm certain NPCs more and also increases the longevity of the game, by giving the players a good reason to make more weapons and also make more hybrid builds.
I don’t quite understand this part.
Magic and fs get a single scroll, and that scroll lets them have access to all types of bane but it is rarer?
Also other questions:
â—ŹHow would you get them? Treasure chests or enemies?
â—ŹHow rare would they be?
This is actually really cool and could make boss farming and sea monster hunting feel a lot more efficient
Maybe for parity reasons magics can get spells that deal bonus damage against specific targets and fighting styles get martial techniques designed to deal with tailored enemies too, and I assume spirit weapons share the bane mechanic already
I like this, yet I’m not exactly fond of the way these appear to be applied. I think this could work really well in conjunction with PvE clans. I’m not entirely sure how, but I’d like this to feel like a more important choice (kinda like WoM cultures). Again, I’m not sure how this could work, but I believe an extra enchant is not the way to go.
Oh and the values are extremely overtuned
Mostly up to vetex, but I do think the bane essences should be dropped by their respective NPCs. However, the scrolls are dropped from any of the aforementioned higher leveled NPCs but they are 10x to 100x rarer.
Because these scrolls are so rare, they can change their type of buffs easily to fit the fight as compared to their weapons counterpart. The weapons can have an easier time farming them however as they need to apply it to multiple weapons and cannot be changed.
I think it’s a very good suggestion. My only other question would be about spirit weapons. Would you make it a rite? Because they are much rarer than normal weapons it could make it a bit of a grind to get duplicates if you want different banes
these would be fun to grind for and also would really improve stuff like fighting way higher-leveled enemies or atlanteans in the dark sea, plus i can see them fitting really well in-game! u have my vote
