Weapon skill customisation?

Vetex mentioned further weapon skills being unlocked as you progress through the weapon stat (unsure what this means, could be through the general profession as a weapon user or through putting more into weapon-specific stats).

So if one specific weapon is able to have multiple skills, I was thinking maybe certain if not most weapons could also have customisation options to their skills that magics do.

These will depend on the skills that a weapon has, for example:

  • Changing the amount of slashes in Raging Storm
  • Changing the explosion size of Mighty Crash
  • Changing the amount of spins in Great Spin
  • A weapon skill that quickly dashes your character in the direction of your cursor and damages anyone that you pass through (possibly delayed if the weapon is a katana, mimicking the fictional attacks seen in anime which also allows for timing to perfect block) can have the amount of times it dashes be customised
  • If firearm-like weapons are implemented, their projectiles could be customised such as increasing range at the cost of damage
  • Being able to choose the attack style of M1 clicks; you can make the held-down M1 attack solely be a thrust to increase range or make it a wide swing for that sweeping range
  • Casting styles? This could be implemented in the form of stances for certain weapons and allow for different effects when the weapon’s skill is used

These are a just a few ideas. If weapons mains are really intended to be able to rival magic mains, then having the former’s skills be customisable as well will allow for more unique combat and provide further depth in an already detailed game.

Criticism and additional ideas are very welcome, I plan on maining weapons for AO and would like to hear more thoughts on the topic.

i thought this suggestion would be shit (cause your a redditor) but after reading it i fully agree that it’d be really cool to have weapons actually be competing with magics on the same level of customisation since vetex seemingly wants weapon mains to only main weapons

plus swords are a lot cooler then shooting lightning balls and i wanna be able to customise mine

i hope visual customisation will be added but yeah nah it’s never gonna happen

i have 0 qualifications and knowledge to say anything on this matter, but wouldnt adding customisation to weapons like he did with magic just be doing the same procedures? again idk tho


The create part kinda seems to imply you make the skill yourself, meaning customisation, but anyway

The counter to magic for strength mains is supposed to be fighting styles, not really weapons

i just realize he will be adding lost and primordial variations of fighting styles

iml in AA all fighting styles were just with your fists

Fighting styles are purely strength/melee, its a different route to weapons entirely

Hmm, interesting. Gotta think over some things on my weapons file when AO comes out.

cause from the way im seeing it it sure does look like that

iirc he said something about being able to bring 1 route to its maximum potential and another route to 50%.
so based on that im assuming that of these 3 routes (magics, fighting styles, weapons) we can pick 2 to focus on
