What Did Calvus Do That Was Bad?

He was hunting the death curse during this time
He knew about the player saving Frostmill, that was just an excuse to cover up the fact he was going to find the Death Curse

Why exactly is the order bad

Basically Akatsuki from Naruto but instead of tailed beasts, it’s sea curses.

goal? not bad actually ( well, not entirely )
the way they do it? very bad

they arent aim to collect them all tho, its more of a side thing

their main goal is to advance the power of magic by any mean

hell, maybe they are one of the main reason why War Seas are so magically advanced ( other than because it is near the mountain where gods lived )

Calvus didnt seem THAT bad to be honest, he was treating rubica and rasnas pretty good and kept his army organized, yeah he wanted sea curses but thats because a Kingdom without curses is a weak one

Idk, i feel like he only falsely imprisoned like one or two people, and its not like he himself is the one arresting them, its his guards. People are bound to make mistakes
Dont forget that he imprisoned Revon’s stalker gf, and YOU, someone who literally destroyed one of his bases of operation, and killed his most trusted general.

The Tiberia thing seems more like a neglect issue than an actual intentional problem, since Calvus was busy trying to gather the sea curses too

Yeah bro he only ordered the execution of giant swaths of innocent people to further his attempts to get more power, neglected one of his towns to the point of kidnapping a guest, is affiliated with an order that inhumanely experiments on humans (Described as “horrible” by Morden), and turns everyone who knows about said affiliation or speaks out against him into a slave.

Quite awful.

To play devil’s advocate, Tiberia is much less than a third of Calvus’ kingdom. Ravenna Realm also owns Frostmill, Shell Island, Fort Talos, Fort Castrum, and formerly Akursius Keep.

Context

For the purpose of explaining King Calvus’ wrongdoings, I’m going to assume that the Grand Navy and the Kingdoms of the War Seas have stipulated something similar to the Geneva Conventions and the UN.

The Genocide of Winterveil and the persecution of its survivors

Starting with the genocide of Winterveil, I’ll describe what a crime against humanity (United Nations Office on Genocide Prevention and the Responsibility to Protect) is according to the UN:

“For the purpose of this Statute, ‘crime against humanity’ means any of the following acts when committed as part of a widespread or systematic attack directed against any civilian population”

AND

“According to Article 7 (1) of the Rome Statute, crimes against humanity do not need to be linked to an armed conflict and can also occur in peacetime, similar to the crime of genocide.”

Going off Oxford’s definition of genocide:

“The deliberate killing of a large number of people from a particular nation or ethnic group with the aim of destroying that nation or group.”

With the aggravation of hiding such a crime.

Assuming that the Grand Navy, created to surveil the Kingdoms, has defined what a crime against humanity is, we can safely say that this is one of the many crimes that could easily get one or more individuals the death penalty.

Summary Execution of Several Civilians

This one is counted as murder, and it is described as “an execution in which a person is accused of a crime and immediately killed without the benefit of a full and fair trial.”

According to the UN’s International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, and as reiterated in the previous point and in the Beginning section about a series of treaties stipulated to make sure that the Kingdoms are put in check, this counts as a crime.

Accomplice of Unethical Human Experimentation

While, allegedly, not directly involved with the Order’s experimentation, he still remains a criminal on the basis that he is part of the Order and stated that the Order is looking for people like the protagonist; going as far as saying that he wouldn’t kill the protagonist but instead kidnap them to be experimented on, and even admits to said crime during his defeat cutscene.

This consequently results in the violation of the human rights of those being experimented on.

Attempted Regicide/Lese Majesty

As Neviro is Winterveil’s Prince, King Calvus committed attempted regicide by severely wounding Neviro.

This crime is often punished with the death penalty.

However, I’m unsure about this being Regicide since Neviro isn’t Winterveil’s King.

Although this may classify as “Lese Majesty” since it is “an aggression towards the crown of Winterveil”.

Verdict

King Calvus has committed several crimes, some indirectly, but for the most part, he remains a murderer and a monarch who chose to continue a meaningless genocide.

Though this isn’t the best of the analyses since it was made with quick google searches and looking for what I wanted, it remains factual that King Calvus did commit many heinous crimes.

But his worst crime of all
He’s rich and a savant

Savant racist

He’s only human after all

He did a lot of horrible things, but in my opinion he’s also a tragic victim of his circumstances.

  • Born into a royal lineage that built itself on genocide.
  • The crown of Ravenna forced onto him from a young age with the untimely demise of his father.
  • Fell into the hands of the Aesir Order with nobody else to turn to.

He continued the horrors of his ancestors and sought to consolidate a kingdom they built on a mountain of corpses. That’s all he has come to know.

He was born to become this way.
In my opinion

True, true, but I think the bigger crime here is him using Savant :face_vomiting:

Oh ok, thank you for this!
I’ve mainly been joking around on this post, but this was a really well and thought out response that helped inform me of more specific things as to what Calvus did

  • Born into a wealthy royal lineage beloved by its people.
  • Assumed the throne after the death of his evil father
  • Had countless Royal consorts to support him

Even when he had a lot of resource and help, it’s still exhausting to taking a position as a king from a young age and living your family dark legacy while keep it secret. maintaining peace over other countries is also a difficult thing
