Good Idea, Bad Execution
the solution is to just not over use them, they look cool and give a sharp visual kick when done right. they dont need to be used like a battlegrounds game where its not a frame its 15 seconds of flashing, but they can make action heavy scenes better
i wouldnt say that, you can still become extremely powerful, i think the strongest non magic or spirit user is like top 20 in the verse which is certainly no pushover
I think that the story is getting better over time. (I mean it starts off VERY similar to arcane adventures, the first 4 islands all fit the same general theme in each game)
Even if at the moment it isn’t amazing objectively, I enjoy it regardless.
The best we seen was Agros with years snd years of experience. Lost to a homeless bum with no real combat experience who been doing this for a canonical month in lore
Skyhall was way too short in my opinion, and underexplored. It was good though, a lot of walking and talking but it was decent. Things like the baron in skyhall, maybe a part of the story that introduces the forsaken and confirming they were not the ones to poison Allanon and kill Liara, and going to the different sky islands in the story would’ve been cool as we only go to windcrest and aneignos.
Honestly there’s so much that wasn’t explored in skyhall that I severely doubt we won’t go back there, especially when there’s a baron there (probably the second prince or queen tbh, it’s pretty obvious). If vetex makes the skyhall baron an open world one I’ll be really disappointed.
Well that’s too bad we’re going to save the world from the Order’s 「Ancient Power」or something big bad and evil etc. Which is okay, but also kinda average.
But at least side content and quest storylines are somewhat interesting, I like Ruby Roger specifically lol.
Is this good or bad, I’m not too aware of nordic mythology.
You can just type (t m) (without the space in the middle) to get the Ole Reliable™
Hey, this is just my thread but better! No faair!..
theres nothing in norse myth afaik that involves yggdrasil burning but im saying this because in elden ring you have to burn down a big tree, and seeing how big of a fan vetex is of elden ring i can see it being ripped.
the story and worldbuilding when you first start is amazing. once nimbus came (post-calvus) it started getting kind of mid but still acceptable. then the dialogue in skyhall was actually pretty atrocious and robotic, i was genuinely wondering if they were using chatgpt or something to write it

It’s an interesting enough story with enough moving parts that I want to see how it will play out. I have been interested enough that when prompted to I find myself speculating on character motivations and schemes, such as the circumstances behind Allanon’s attempted assassination, or how things could play out, based on things such as Morden not trusting Hassan and Ravenna getting involved in the Keraxe-Sameria conflict.
As far as pacing goes, I prefer my stories lean and to the point - any so-called “filler” needs to be in service to the story. I don’t think spending story quest time getting to know the characters would be universally bad, but it needs to work with the story. We don’t know where Morden is from (or at least I don’t recall it being mentioned), for example, but does that matter at this point? I wouldn’t want to waste precious story quest time on that. I’ll give an example that I think could be good: Iris may have some insight into what Allanon may have been thinking; the violent rage at having been greviously wronged, being willing to send the sky islands into the sea, or melt an inhabited ice island, in a desperate attempt to lash out and right those wrongs, or bring those that did wrong down.
However, some may not care about even that, and having to stop to hear such things could feel out of place. I think the main story advancing quests should stay reserved for things that move the story along, but adding main story adjacent side quests and/or optional dialogues with the other characters where you can choose a topic (Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II’s dialogue system is what I envision, but it need not be that) would be a good place to put such things. I also think some sort of story replay would be good for those that want to review something, or missed some optional dialogue/one of those main story side quests I mentioned. As for those that simply don’t care, or want to get to the fighting, throw them a bone and let them skip cutscenes/quickly go through dialogue. With the addition of a story replay mode, there would be no risk involved with this. But this requires development time, so the juice may not be worth the squeeze.
tl;dr: Interesting enough to get my noggin joggin, main story should be reserved for advancing the state of the story (eg. bosses being available, ships moving into place), throw in some optional dialogue/quests that coincide with the main story to flesh things out, a story replay to revisit these things in case something was missed, and a skip cutscene/dialogue feature for those that don’t care at all/at the moment.
Imo, it has too much going on too quickly without ever stopping to flesh out the characters. The most well developed so far is probably Iris, but there’s still not much there
The skyhall storyline was definitely the best and most interesting portion of the story so far, but it just felt too short to me, it ends pretty much as soon as it begins
Trying to make a compelling story into a game like this is a very difficult task though
The character dialogue feels amateurish, and the characters in general are straightforward and without much nuance. I played Skyhall very recently, so it’s what’s most vivid in my mind.
Like, one sentence from the Queen and we can immediately tell she’s the bad guy. Her and her son. There is no nuance there, and it felt so, so, so predictable that it was the “Evil Queen manipulating the sick King” bit. Allanon’s writing was also kind of cringe, with him being the happy, welcoming nobility. The story just kind of forces him into being your “friend”, when I only felt a bit off-put by him.
The part about the King and everyone else dismissing Allanon’s accusations was also really frustrating.
“Oh, you think your brother that hates sea-dwellers, wants to keep Skyhall seperate from any matters of the world below, and expressed sadistic satisfaction at Liara’s death (and has expressed desire for her to die in the past) was involved in the plot to murder her? You’re crazy, Allanon. It’s the sickness talking. Now hug and make up with your brother.”
They are so obviously evil, and I firmly believe that they’re not red-herrings. There is no plot twist coming. The Queen is going to claim the King died of the sickness (that she’s probably causing), take his place (or Lucian will ascend to the throne as a figurehead), and run things exactly how the Order wants them. There will not be a plot twist about them actually being uninvolved.
Then, we’ll have to go back up to Skyhall and work with Esmerelda to overthrow them, and then she’ll become Queen and pledge support to the fight against the Order.
Is that a fort boss? They aren’t canon fights if so
