i was just reminded of this but it still pisses me the fuck off
why the hell does Carina even exist?? Like, deadass, she has ZERO purpose or relevance at ALL.
Shura was acidifying the oceans around the jaws and was a big problem for redwake, and he’ll be a character we meet again.
Iris was burning down frostmill and became part of the main cast
Elius kidnapped Beringer
Argos is the general of a ravenna fort
Calvus is the king of ravenna
Maria is a captain of the corsair pirates and was shooting down ships per a contract to try to start a war
Allanon was the prince of skyhall and was going to kill everyone on it
Jarl Ivar is in charge of the Fenrir
Carina? She’s spontaneously created out of nowhere, tries to jump us, then fucking dies 5 minutes later. What mention of her exists outside of this blip in the story? One npc mentions that she’s his daughter, in a single line of dialogue. After the fact.
Carina is a fucking randomly spawning miniboss with a cutscene when she spawns in. “A noble’s daughter from Ravenna, and a member of the order, trying to hunt you down for what you did to her country.” THAT is more significant to the setting than what we got!
CARINA IS FUCKING USELESS! SHE’S NOT EVEN A MEMORABLE FIGHT.
if she didn’t exist in the arcane odyssey universe, there would deadass not be a single change. Even Jarl Ivar has some relevance to the events of arcane odyssey because he captains the Fenrir. Carina literally doesn’t do a thing and doesn’t leave the shadow of a breath’s ripple in the air on the world of arcane odyssey. Genuinely, she doesn’t exist. She just didn’t exist until we walked in the plains and had her be created by god and sent down from the heavens to hit us, and then she dies and is promptly never fucking mentioned again (except for 1 single line of text in the whole game). Carina shouldn’t exist. She has NO impact on the story at all, nor does she hold any sort of impact on the world of arcane odyssey. She is as important as a randomly generated town npc that sees a dead body and runs away. She should not be in the game at all, if she doesn’t have serious and extreme elaboration on soon. EVERY other boss at least leaves an impact on the arcane universe in some degree, but Carina was born a minute ago and was cut down by Arayashiki 7 minutes later.
a small little sharp rock made out of devourer metal attached to some wood probably wouldnt do anything compared to an ACTUAL devourer. the entire point of a devourer is you stab a curse user with it so then the curse is absorbed out of their body and then it explodes out of the blade so you can claim it for yourself.
speaking of devourers when will argos devourer become relevant, iirc vetex said Cursebane would become relevant in the story eventually
we are going back to ravenna before we go to vimir, probably to either
A: answer to the grand navy and the ravenna realm about our regicide
B: pick up neviro bc he got sidetracked
C: filler bla bla blab al
I say a combo of B and C. Chapter 10 has a curse boss that’s been talked about. Well I doubt it’s one of the sons as the story slapped us in the face a few times in chapter 9 saying we aren’t ready so my guess is jullian. He beats us the first time then we kill him the 2nd time leaving ravena is the worse state it ever been in and realistically should be wiped out as that’s all their curse power gone and the last time a kingdom went with no curse… they were nuked out of the sea.
Liara is an example of fridging and it’s unfortunate tbh… Like I get her role to the plot but it just leave a bad taste in my head reading the game story for the 14th time
I hope once we get Neviro it would be actually fascinating and not just “Your ruler commits genocide” and it magically fixes the political problem Ravenna got into due to some murder hobo.
Carina was made as a way to show our character morality, it shows the outcome from being Merciful or Ruthless, which in theory isn’t bad. However like you said: It was executed very poorly, like I doubt people care for Carina other than me for her design and me making 3D render of her.
No. She doesn’t serve that purpose at all. Either “you kill her” or “you mercifully let her painfully bleed out to death”. She doesn’t exist and she has zero bearing on the story in any possible way
It’s still a purpose, just not good one. I’m sure it was done to show how good/bad we are but it just falls flat due to it being a sudden interaction with no foreshadowing that don’t even leave an impact to the story as she (and perhaps many other Ravenna characters that’s not Calvus) is forgotten and never touched again.
is killing her really that bad when she tried ro kill us and she was gonna die anyways
also hope that with the story’s direction ruthless and merciful attribute isnt just black&white/good and bad but rather how your character’s way of thinking and dealing with certain things
Another issue I found from the story that could be just ludonarrative dissonance is how the game is presented.
The game is what you typically see in an MMORPG, yknow like grinding for stuff and exploring the vast world and mysteries surrounding it, but since it’s the main meat of the game, and adding that our main gang always gets separated, it felt like we all just doing it for ourselves and not even our gang, it’s as if it were implied that we are the only one who try to do things better while the main gang lags and do nothing than to show “We are the good guys guys!”
Right now we are a murder hobo with no memories other than we are a descendant of the Gods, and we are (unless you count your brig as a house) basically a homeless adventurer with no backstory and dragged by the story as a reason for getting involved with this secret cabal of some weird order who should’ve died 200 years ago. And because it was a game and the story have no chemistry with the characters and is what I call a slideshows of scene, it felt like EVERYTHING can just be solved through violence and if it’s not working just do more violence.
It’s a great way to add gameplay, but it isn’t always narrative wise, so I can see how the game rough transition between scenes could also be due to “we fight boss and go to the next boss”.
Now that is for Vetex to decide. I personally just glad that he tried something and make it exist than make something that’s good in his head and turn himself into vagueposting wizard teasing us for a potentially (It’s not) good story.
It’s possible though the sons feel like end game bosses personally. We all ready killed calvus let’s just completely cripple and ruin ravena and make them free resources for keraxe
