A few months ago I did a similar topic to this for Jarl Ivar, however I never did one for Allanon, so here it is (better late than never lol)
First fights alright, second one’s a nightmare, because you can’t see him behind all the particles.
I’ll write some more later on his character and such, but that’s a summary of my thoughts on the fight.
hi Nashatra of the Atelophae, I personally didn’t struggle with Allanon in the boss fight due to my insanely high defence + regen, however stuff like the grab attack and Allanon being so unfriendly towards non-Cannon Fist Strength users really messes it up. It feels like Vetex just designs stuff for mages and the other classes are playing on hard mode.
Funnily enough, I died once on the first fight but no times on the second ![]()
oh also his character is eh, the AO storyline is mostly eh which is a topic for another time that has already been heavily discussed
his music is boring. i want more than just intense orchestral music. do more stuff like lord elius
screw you Allanon
idk, I’ve never seen him
remember when we thought captain maria was the worst boss ever
+ALLANON!
+JARL IVAR!
+DRAGONLORDS!
Gonna be honest, I kinda forgot a lot about Allanon so this probably won’t be as good it could’ve been. But from memory I never beat him legitimately (phase 2) because of a bug where he kept respawning mid-battle, ending up winning 'cause he bugged and didn’t do anything.
I think phase 1 is kinda cool gonna be honest, I like that you fight him in a populated area with different terrain compared to the usual flat arena most bosses have, plus the houses also work as elevation if you don’t have many good ranged moves (oh and Callahan is also there, though he dies in like the first 10 seconds of the fight lol)
Phase 2 is kinda where my praise ends, first off you’re given a battle injury which nerfs you, so already off to a bad start. He doesn’t have anything really new if I recall? Minus the auto heal which can be annoying if you can’t hit him enough. Also heard complaints about the amount of visual clutter but I don’t recall that too much
So overall, I think Jarl Ivar might be better compared to Allanon in almost every aspect, I say almost because Allanon does do something miles better, and that is build up.
You’re greeted almost immediately by Allanon who is presented as an ally (helping you recover your torn letter) and acts as a sort of guide to you. Overall being really friendly until the part where he gets stabbed and his fiancée dies (I kinda forgot her name sadly since she serves no purpose other than that), with Allanon surviving but said to have been inflicted with a maddening herb (don’t quite remember). Then you get to the throne room where Allanon and his brother are brought in, where Allanon goes crazy and then attacks you
I think that is really cool, and sure it might be a bit unrealistic how quickly he became crazy, but considering his wound did corrupt him and he lost his fiancée, I can look past that and accept how quickly he grew crazy. Anywho sorry for the rant I just really wanted to ramble on about Allanon’s build up because I think it was probably the best out of any boss lol
On the music part, I agree a lot of the boss music is kinda forgettable to me? I think the only boss in the recent update that I vaguely remember was Leviathan’s? I kinda understand why a lot of it is samey due to the time period, but I think there can be more routes than just “ancient instruments and choir” for music
yeah and if youre focusing on this type of music you could at least make it a bit more memorable
not asking for like DM Dokuro levels of music but genuinely none of the songs in AO have impressed me at all no offense to the composer
Stupid and annoying like basically every other character and fight in this game after Shura
horrible boss fight imo, mid lore (the only reason im calling it mid is because im comparing it to the other characters in the arcaneverse. otherwise its bottom of the barrel shit from a butt in anything else)
as for the actual topic at hand
i think allanon is fine, he does his job of a boss youre supposed to stay away from very well, but that in of itself is where a lot of his issues lie since some classes can’t stay away, though according to a single guy who i talked to on discord a while back, berserkers can just get close to allanon and spam m1 to kill him in seconds
personally i like allanon fight, i farmed him a bit on my fire conjurer while cycling back and forth between the grayling camps for a piece of drip, and ive not had any issue with him other than him teleporting back and forth sometimes (which i cant blame on the boss design itself, thats just a game bug)
if i had to name any complaint its that he for some reason has some sort of nebula-like spell active at all times that immediately destroyed all bullets and arrows, so when i was farming him on my fire conj i had to use sword skills and spells
Visually very cool boss, can be a little difficult to keep track of (and hurts quite a lot)
Good at inflicting panic into you when you fight him for the first time though, which adds to the experience.
I fully agreed with him ngl id help him out if we were given the option to
A bit off topic and definitely an extremely hot take but I don’t really like Dokuro’s Calamity music that much (yes I know he does other stuff but he’s unfortunately only really known because of Calamity). It is pretty good on its own but it completely clashes with Terraria’ style and doesn’t fit the game at all. Some people might like that but I prefer music that fits the game.
Also people were way too nostalgic for his music and against it ever being removed even if it didn’t even fit the content it was for any more.
who?
poop ass fight
poop ass story segment
mid lore
we’re supposed to hate skyhall residents for being racist meanwhile they have literally every reason in the world to be xenophobes
simultaneously we’re supposed to want to stop allanon from destroying them
i guess you could make the argument that skyhall going down would destroy the nimbus sea which is true but is never mentioned once
How do you manage to make a bootleg of Theos, someone you specifically wrote
Generally sucks ass
A flying enemy with way too small of a hitbox obscured further by his wings
The grab attack is unnecessarily overtuned
Whoever decided the player should respawn right in front of him should be shot
Far too frequent of a tendency to lose aggro and reset fully
