Fixes to Maria and Jarl Ivar, as well as any other problematic Nimbus Sea boss, are quite simple. Funny how only two Bronze Sea bosses have such problems, and only one of them is actually on par with Nimbus’s.
Tbh I found Allanon to be more annoying than Jarl, mostly because Jarl got cheesed a bit by him being carried out of the boss room via a wave lmao. But yeah no he’s absolutely really annoying with how he and the arena are designed
Actually you know what, fair you got a point there I completely forgot about Carina ![]()
Honestly, I’ll play devil’s advocate for both Allanon and Ivar any time.
Allanon is only a bad boss if you don’t have a long range precision attack, which literally every build that isn’t berserker does.
Berserker sucking ass is a problem with berserker, not with boss design.
If you see Allanon rush you, don’t dodge, just blast him in the face and he stops.
Ivar is shockingly predictable if you actually pay attention and he leaves himself open for literally the entire fight.
Dodge sideways to avoid his grab.
Dodge backwards or forward to avoid the metal smash.
Don’t step on the magic circles.
Parry his axe slam.
Stay away from his melee rush.
If he shields himself in the big metal ball, just attack anyways because its the worst shield ever.
and most importantly, keep attacking.
You will take damage, the bossfight needs to end fast, but every attack you avoid buys you more time to win.
If you have the DPS build that can just rush him and beat him at his own game, do that!
If you don’t, outplay his ass.
Aight, time to yap.
King Caesar: Fix him resetting his fight when fighting against him in a squad and increase his placed explosions’ cooldown, thats it. The least problematic of all bosses, and one of my favourites.
Ormolu: If you cheese him - you win. If you don’t - you lose. Him being a damage sponge is fine, but the cheese must be toned down. Just give him an attack where he summons crystal pillars around his arena, and only while they’re present, he can use his cave-wide attack that kills you, unless you hide behind his crystal pillars. Remove every natural stalagmite and rock cliff in the cave, so only crystal pillars will be the safe spots. And, maybe, lower his damage a bit. His damage, besides his arena-wide wipe, isn’t an issue at all.
Maria: Give her meaningful cooldown on her invincible ultimate, reduce the size and damage of the tentacles, and remove any other instance of invincibility.
Commander Hathor: She’s fine, but her fort is too laggy. Same goes for Castrum.
Rear Admiral Amelia + Architect Kalliste: These two suffer from the same small arena problem that Ivar does. At least Amelia has the bridges that you can lure her onto and hop between their ends, frying her AI. For Kalliste, your only option is to break the window and jump into the sea. Heat mages aren’t gonna be happy about that. I believe the small arena problem can be addressed in some ways, but besides that, decrease their overall damage and give their ultimates longer cooldowns. I think these two aren’t complained about much, because they got no worthy drops. The kraken band is the direct upgrade to Amelia’s cloak, and Kalliste’s cape was never good to begin with. At least Kai and Merlot’s (give those two a drop chance increase too, while you’re at it) weapons are the best a weapon hybrid could dream of. In their respective weapon categories, that is.
Allanon: First, fix the skyships not refueling at Nimbus Wilds, as well as Snowriven. Second, make his grab deal, at most, 400 damage. 2000 is way too much. Then, reduce his explosions’ size and particle amount, so they won’t lag that much. His wind-ups are telegraphed, you can know what he is using, so the enormous damage his explosions do may stay the same, except from his self-explosion, that should be halved. After that, increase his drop chances to 1 in 2. And, at last, fix him teleporting around while flying, same goes for the sirens.
Jarl Ivar: Blow up Fenrir’s rear to make the arena bigger, for both of his boss fights. Then, give him meaningful cooldowns on his 700 damage axe and his hand grab. Finally, increase his drop chances to 1 in 2.
Delamere, Maine and… Evander?: Increase their drop chances to 1 in 2. Not sure what Evander’s are, kinda forgot, but, just in case.
That is still a problem. Cannon fist isn’t quite the solution, but Crash of that fighting style throws a cannonball, so it might help slightly
Ivar needs a bigger arena
The deck of the Fenrir would be a good candidate
Other than that his design and story make the most sense out of all the bosses in Nimbus
Maria randomly harpoons your boat in a fairly uninteresting and annoying plot twist
We all know the issues with Skyhall
Ivar is just a dude who’s pissed that you broke into his boat and is fighting you for glory
That is a great boss introduction tho, and its only for one time during the storyline, so keep it
Maybe that’s just my general bias against the forest of masts
Basically nothing about that part of the storyline is enjoyable
General Akeem would absolutely smite this man.
I thought it was pretty good. The game hypes up heading to the Nimbus Sea, and then some evil pirates ruin the experience for you, so you’ve got some good incentive to show them who’s boss.
A problem with berserker, not with allanon.
Berserker lacks the basic bare minimum tools to fight bosses in this game, it needs to be given those tools in its kit universally.
If every boss was made to cater to berserker’s shitty kit, then every other class would stomp them with zero effort, and that’s just bad boss design in the other direction.
Not necessarily, it’s just that the game is full of moves that punish close combat, which is the only thing Berserker can do. The problem with that is that being up close is not something that should be punished in general.
Other builds simply go further away to avoid the punishers, which is how they stay safe.
Every boss would have to be grounded and be vastly less mobile than they are now to cater to berserker’s kit.
What two bosses are those? I can think of King Calvus but nobody else really comes to mind, Jorund?
Allanon would be 90% easier for berserkers if crash aiming was fixed and there was no move that annihilates you for daring to use a FS.
And Allanon is literally the only boss that isn’t grounded.
Boss mobility would probably be no less annoying for mages than berserkers, since in both cases your moves can either go there or take you there.
For Allanon here I gotta disagree, he’s a bad boss because he’s a small target who moves a lot and you can very easily lose track of him in the vast expense of attack effects he creates, and by the time you locate him again he’s preparing another attack ya gotta dodge. Basically sirens but far, faaaar worse
Calvus, Elius, Dragons (next update), krakens, omen, any future sea monster, future siren boss, and probably more.
Okay I forgot Elius, but Calvus basically never leaves the floor.
He literally spends the entire fight flying around.
That’s not flying…
