That’s the entire post. I’d like to know what the community thinks the game does well, because I’m having a hard time coming up with anything.
At no point in Arcane Odyssey’s lifespan could I ever complain about the graphics. For all the flack I give this game, it looks incredible. Especially the shader effects. Climb one of the Jaws’ spires at evening or daybreak, turn your graphics all the way, up, and just gaze out to the sea. It’s undeniably beautiful.
Even if some of the magic and weapon effects vary in quality, I don’t think I’d call any of them bad, just less good than the better ones.
the environments are really nice
sure it’s stupidly yellow but you can’t deny this silly pirate game can look really pretty sometimes
also the style feels consistent, unlike certain other games (cough cough block fruit cough)
i like the visual style for the attacks in general
they have this feel where its a good balance between fancy and simple especially in the roblox rpg gamescape where attack vfx either have that generic over the top roanime look or too simple to the point its boring
The different styles, moves, weapons, and magics. At no point, even up to now do i feel like options for my builds have started to narrow out. Ive always enjoyed how you can have the same stat investments and magic as someone else but you can play completely different than them based on spell customization or your armor
vetex does not want to be remembered for his anime game i guess ![]()
Like many people have said here: the environment. The Myriad is a really cool location (the books probably won’t ever be readable though), and it’s nice to hear stories from people like Azarel even if I already know the stories. By far, the most exciting thing for me was hearing about Redwake having boats while AO was WoM. Although, I am also quite fond of NPCs such as the one you may find on top of Ravenna’s capital walls, the fighting style mentors, and Edward Kenton.
Alright, unironically, I love the exploration, combat, and story.
Yes I know I complain a lot about minor details and incongruences, however, if I did not genuinely love the story I wouldn’t harp on those minor snags so much. I think it’s a gripping tale, that perhaps could have better pacing and dialogue, but over all is fantastic. I’m a sucker for stories like this, particularly as the war is heating up, and we’re getting closer to meeting characters like Wotan and other really interesting characters.
The combat (pve not pvp) is highly mobile and focused on skill based aiming, rather than ridiculous hit or miss combos like a lot of Roblox fighting games. I love Conjurer and Savant because they exemplify the best aspects of the system, being able to get in close or zone at a moment’s notice. I’ve never had a game which blends spells and weapons together so effortlessly, and it’s a lot of fun.
The exploration is of course also very fun, I love seeing the locations and world which Vetex has made, the background details, hints of things just beyond our view as the protagonists. I want to know what the Eden kingdom was, I want to see the Thorne Empire and the Ryujin Dynasty, all these things are what has kept me interested in the world, and continuing to come back with each story update.
Overall, I do think Arcane Odyssey is a great game with an amazing story to tell, yes the story is simple and portrayed without much depth, yet. However, not everything needs to be a Deltarune or FNAF like story to be interesting. Even that is somewhat disengenious because there are genuine mysteries in the game, what is the Order’s true goal with the entity, what was done to the player, and who are they really? These questions have inspired me to write upwards of fifty thousand words of fanfiction, and I don’t think any other game, aside from Wynncraft, would be able to capture me with a story in the way Arcane Odyssey has done. So kudos to Vetex for creating one of the most engaging stories and games on the platform. It may not have much replayibility once you’ve dumped over three-hundred hours into it, but when those updates roll around I am always at the edge of my seat to see what happens next.
I agree with other people that the environment and the atmosphere of the game is probably it’s biggest strength. Now don’t get me wrong, I do like the rest of it, but the feeling of going to certain locations for the first time is hard to top.
Character building
Graphics and feel of terrain is really good also spell vfx are pretty good(sadly except lightning)
One thing that really got me into ao when i was a new player was the insane attention to detail the game has, like did you know that when lightning clashes with sand it creates a bunch of glass shards? Or the fact that strong potions can affect the weather or the sea? Poison clouds can be ignited? I really like this kind of stuff
Another thing is exploration, as in just aimlessly wandering around islands talking to npcs. I love that town npcs give lore or worldbuilding hints, especially all the ones in skyhall
Oh and also probably the look and general vibe of the game but thats already been said by other people
concept
detail
graphics
mapping
magic’s ‘special’ interactions with eachother (fire burning a wood blast, lightning and sand making glass when clashed, etc)
really what everyone else has already said (mostly hanmbi, basically took everything i was thinking)
one thing ill add is i love the customization you can do on skills
While I believe there’s a whole lot of room for improvement in it;
If I didn’t enjoy reading this story and interacting with this world, I would not be here.
(please vetex I beg give neviro some charactization between cirrus and ravenna I beg. I literally thought I missed part of the story on my first playthrough when he showed up at ravenna)
now did you know that all of these things have actual practical effects.
Those glass shards are map hazards. Burning a poison cloud causes it to dissipate faster, but also transfers its ownership to the person who ignited it.
Meaning a poison/fire mage could ignite their own to sacrifice damage for not letting you have it or you could ignite theirs to turn their hazards into hazards for them rather than you.
Oh yeah that’s something I talked with a friend about, most games don’t let your have that much control over how your own attacks work
Honestly I really love the lore of Arcane Odyssey. It feels like there’s so much even though we probably don’t know 80% of the total lore that is in store for us. Learning about everything and coming up with theories as explanations to unanswered lore is also very fun.
its very good at keeping me coming back
Basically everything apart from animation and lag in my opinion. Especially the environmental design and world building. The game just looks pretty. Also, the gameplay loop with a maxed account. Here is some yap about that:
