What went wrong with AO/its community?

Not to that level. It’s mainly fighting between two sides; one states that this fucks over PvE players who would rather get shot than engage in PvP, while the other side states that PvP should have more influence when it comes to decisions like these, believing this to be a win for them. There’s more nuance, but that’s the overall gist of the situation.

Personally, I’m on Team PvE. I’ve seen some baffling arguments from the PvP side of things that make it seem like a trip to Pyroland; I would love to see that one argument that says that agility being merc’d hurts gankers more than the ganked in particular, because that sounds especially looney.

possible solutions:

  1. remove pvp in non elysium servers
  2. ban all pvpers
  3. disband all clans

I’m being serious; it might be a genuine “hear me out” sort of scenario.

Granted, “hear me out” has often been said before the most unspeakable horrors, but it might not be that bad here.

okay, i’ll explain

so the big argument for why agility is beneficial for pve players is that they can build it to escape ganks

however…

  1. pvp players also build agility, oftentimes to a more effective degree than pve players since they likely have a minmaxed / complete build
    it’s easy to see how this turns world pvp into an agility tax where you physically can’t get away if you fail the tax
  2. with the removal of agility, pve players don’t have to build 4 million agility just to avoid pvp encounters
    they’ll actually be allowed to build shit that matters
  3. with everyone being the same speed, running is easier
    i see so many idiots constantly go “no agility will make pvp forced!!!”
    no the fuck it won’t
    it shouldn’t even be difficult to understand
    attacks freeze you in place
    the person running does not have to attack
    the person chasing does
    therefore if everyone has the same agility, running becomes favoured

I like that first idea. Maybe they could make Elysium free for public Elysium servers and people only have to pay for it for a private Elysium.

i would like to rescind all of my previous comments regarding the removal of the agility stat.

As for reforms, I propose you can only harm those who are only ten levels below you (vice versa) and at max only other max players. We also need a way to disable renown gain or to cap it.

In order to foster connection between players, server wide or global events need to be added that can only be defeated through the whole server cooperating (every player who participates receives a fair share).

Also, clan warfare needs to further expanded on to provide an outlet for PvP heads (like massive battles in 50 player servers in which the winner gains a ton of infamy and the loser loses a lot, and possibly has to boot members).

Kingdom Town alignment and player fleets would be great for PvE players, and allow clans to ally with respective kingdoms which could help with adding random spawning events (skirmishes and battles between kingdoms)

Finally, elysium should be publicized or an alternative formulated for consensual PvP to occur, and weekly balance changes, if not content addition, should be introduced

The dark sea could also benefit from a ton of content additions, but overall the community will remain unstable fundamentally until consistent and satisfying updates are constantly released to inject content into the system, and prevent decay into a toxic cesspool filled with sweats, no lifes, and a few unlucky casuals/newbies.

This would allow the game to capture new community members to refresh and enlarge the community, and create a more welcoming environment for newbies.

Eventually, if done right, arcane odyssey could gain enough cultural relevance (in Roblox) to develop the staying power to remain a popular game for quite some time.

Conclusion: the toxicity of the ao community is merely the symptom of chronic content droughts and some questionable decisions, along with the incompleteness of the main replayable pve feature, the dark sea. Remedying this, I see ao becoming great again.

Well I personally think every ao player is an idiot, pvphead or pvehead

I think a huge issue is the fact that so far Vetex’s image has been ruined by his own actions, People are still in this community cuz they like the game. I feel like it’s not fair to blame players when a huge part of their behavior is a negative feedback towards the devs which after ignored either makes the individual a full on hater or causes them to just leave

Id say a huge part of all the issues arises from the dev team’s mistakes SO FAR, I can see that they have considerably improved this year, but you can’t really convince me that the players are the cause for the overall negativity

I’ve played RPGs all my life. Not even joking, I was watching my oldest brother play Oblivion when I was THREE.

AO is an RPG, and I can confidently say there are multiple things to add that would help.

1 - a profession system that doesn’t favor late game players. Something that can influence the game but still needs to be grinded (like a loadout, but this would be something that doesn’t effect the current items. Like, along with fishing, there’s multiple different possible things that could be added. Cooking is a profession, add fishing as one. Add an ingredient list to complete, and, speaking as someone who is PHYSICALLY FUCKED by PVP…

Add. A. Toggle. I already have a narrow amount of games I can play because my hands simply can’t operate correctly with them. I remember someone saying to me that I offer a unique viewpoint to the PVP situation, as someone with a disability, and I’m saying either add a toggle or create a system to make people like me who already struggle with PVE due to their disabilities, at least get something of a fighting chance. I know I’m probably part of a very slim group of the fanbase, but it would still help.

Not to mention, I recommend more profession-esq systems because it’s good replay value but adds more things to “100%” for competitive players.

Also, disabling PVP for large levels gaps wouldn’t be the worst, just saying…

Enough about the PVP, seriously, it hurts my head… anyways, I feel like adding a gambling aspect would weed out some of the PVPheads who play subpar PVP games that are filled with people who are trash talking to a 9 year old, and they themselves are either 9 and angry over their lack of control over their own lives, or are a 15+ person being… just horrible to a kid that just wanted to unwind and enjoy the game. I used to play CW, and I remember seeing people genuinely try to make children cry in that game.

Hate PVP heavy games for that reason.

i love pvp but i dont mess with gankers pls add pvp toggle so people can be more chill this game needs more chill. everyone needs to chillax cause at the end of the day its just a game so let’s chill. on a side note can we get ingame names back instead of roblox names? i saw a dude named “daddywhiteeyes” the other day

Why not Sea of Thieves Idea?
I mean, we already have [C] servers for high infamy clans, why not create another tag for World PvP and another with PvP Disabled.

For someone who does both, left with the need to choose a side is fucking nasty.

This is why I respect @15Edward alot, he plays on his own way regardless of what the majority of the community throws at him and the PvP community as a whole. Bro literally rejects PvE activities (which I still think is insane, get a brig mah boi)

Even deepwoken did something about it (atleast planned, the Hive Origin, for those who want to avoid PvP in DW)

vetex has said roblox is the only platform he knows how to make games on, he cant make ao a steam game because he doesnt know how to
