What would happen if Ivoris fell out of the sky?

This is a question that I’ve recently asked myself and I decided to share it here.

My personal theory is that there’s one of two ways that Ivoris would fall, either by: falling quickly into the vents below, or by slowly descending from the sky before safely landing on the volcano vent below and creating a moat of lava around the city.

Now there’s a few extra questions that I have around this event.

  1. What would happen to the connected sky islands?
  2. Would this cause some seismic activity?
  3. Would this cause the nearby volcanos on the vents to erupt?
  4. Would this cause massive tidal waves, and potentially tsunamis?
  5. What would the estimated casualty rate be due to the event? (For both the skyhall residents, and any other casualties caused by the event)
  6. Would this be the end of the skyhall kingdom or would it turn over a new leaf for them by forcing them down to the sea to explore?

instability, iirc they are all basically balancing each other, if one falls the others will start to fall too.

it’s a big ass rock, sure.

seismic activity tends to do that, and as I stated; “big ass rock”

huge.

nearby islands would be decimated, sameria would be severely damaged.
if we’re taking in lore sizes: everything gone.

end.
they have no other places of importance, skyhall is their only residence.

well they would probably have to change the name

depends, if we’re saying the chains were shattered then ivoris would be the only one the fall into the sea since it isnt strong enough to support its own weight, if we’re saying that for some reason ivoris started falling, it would probably drag the other connected islands down with it

yes, moreso than the fracture, this would be world-ending if we’re using in-universe sizes

hard to say, but unless the magic clouds affect something with the volcanoes then no they would not erupt (also they’re vents, not volcanoes)

yes easily tsunamis that dwarf anything seen ingame

millions, quite literally anybody who cannot escape the imminent floods and worldwide destruction that would be caused by ivoris colliding into the earth, as for the skyhall residents themselves not a single one lives unless they know how to fly or otherwise have some way to escape the fall

yes, 99% of the civilians death they wouldnt even be a kingdom anymore just a very small group of people who may be able to survive the fallout

Seahall

One thing to think about is if Ivoris would gently fall down or just plummet out of the sky (since the clouds may get trapped underneath the island while dissipating which may cause it to gently fall down)

think of it like placing something on a ball
sure it’s supported
but once it starts to roll off it begins to fall QUICK.

I suspect it’s similar to that.

Any other islands chained to it could be dragged down with it which is most likely what Allanon intended

Possibly a really big tsunami but it’s not like the War Seas have any shortage of those. Given Ivoris’s current altitude, the wave would probably no worse than the shit that comes from the Dark Sea in most places. The Nimbus Sea and maybe the eastern Vimir Sea are probably completely wrecked though (Othrys would probably shield most of the Bronze Sea from the worst of it)

I doubt anyone on Ivoris (or any other islands that get dragged down) would survive unless they somehow escape to a different island that isn’t being thrown into the ocean, and anyone in the proximity of the Vents would also probably die in the tsunami (rip vanishing fist guy)

Even if other islands survive, Skyhall is done; their government has basically been decapitated, unless Zenith or some high-ranking official manages to get out. And, even then, what is there to govern? Pretty sure Ivoris is home to the majority of their population, and to a kingdom already short on resources, I don’t know that they can take a hit of that magnitude.

Overall there’s a lot of dead racists and a few even-more-destroyed towns[1] across the Nimbus Sea

  1. Keraxe. Need I say more? ↩︎

Pretty sure it’s only Ivoris that’s in serious risk of falling

That island cloud has a massive weight on it (the city) that the other islands don’t

nothing of value will be lost

No more vanishing style tho

nothing of value will be lost.

I wonder if there might be tectonic consequences due to the island falling on the vents of Aeolus

this would make an excellent community au writing project (similar to abyss sea)

Everyone in the sea would go up to the island and start beating the shit out of the Ivoris people

And the people of Cirrus would also get involved

Sea/Sky war

Cirrus island people sending 80,000 skyships loaded with arcane barrels towards major cities of the War Seas

if i recall, ivoris isn’t the one who float. but more like other islands that supports ivoris.

i feel like skyhall is similar like sky island. their clouds are form like solid. so they can bear a heavy weight. including an island with people.
but because ivoris is a capital, and (of course) way more populated and have lots of building, that solid clouds cannot really maintain it anymore. so they needed supports.

If ivoris fell, it will drag other islands down too.

the nimbus sea is probably wiped out by massive tsunamis, potentially even impacting vimir and bronze sea too

Depending on how far away it is and where its mountains are, Keraxe might actually be more screwed than Sameria. All of Sameria’s cities are blocked from the west by mountains except for Masada so they might actually not do too horribly. Sheildguard, Rosehenge, etc are all screwed though. Mistral and the ice mines are partially blocked by Rosehenge but I don’t think that’d help too much.
