The Grand Navy only became the GN about 20 years ago. They arrested Nero for his genocide of winterveil. So unless the GN was arresting Nero for crimes he committed before the GN was a thing, which could be possible don’t get me wrong, Winterveil falling could’ve only happened like 2 decades before the game starts.

Sadly no. The only trace of Winterveil Island is that the ground of Akursius happens to be the same rocks, but more broken.
The towers belonged to Ravenna after taking it.
Talking about gloam ruins. Dark grey brick towers seem to be their thing for forts. Kinda like how light brown squares are for Ravenna. That style seems to reflect onto Ravenna’s other architecture too, so wouldn’t be too surprised if it’s similar for Winterveil. Though it is possible their architecture for their sea forts and architecture for everything else bears no similarities. I would still bet on their castles looking alike them though.
i imagine winterveilli architecture would be based off of greek conceptions of hyperborea, or the northern land
so it would prob be northern european
its also possible that the lore for how the GN began was made after the lore of Nero getting arrested and vetex forgot to fix it

so basically winterveil fell around like 1750
I guess that’s possible, but the timeline does match up with Nero getting arrested something like 20 years ago. In the note in the gloam ruins we hear about a young Neviro escaping with his father which would match up with his age now, and Octavious’ reign only lasting 5 years leaves room for a 15 year old Calvus to become the something around 30 year old today and the 3 year old Revon to become the same age as the MC.
Okay well fuck everything I just said. Either the GN really did arrest bro for something before they formed or this got retconned. Cause the stuff about the Navy and the gloam ruins stuff came way after this journal.

We know this because pretty much the first thing Nero did after creating Ravenna was declare war on Winterveil.

I mean, I don’t think there’s a statute of limitations on genocide. There’s also the fact, I don’t remember which topic I saw it in, but it was mentioned Nero was a menace to other seas. Also maybe some Winterveilans (veilites? Idk what do you guys use?) joined with the GN (edit: hit publish too soon. On mobile rn) for the purpose of stopping Nero specifically.

This is a case of non-retroactivity(where you can’t be arrested for something that wasn’t illegal when you did it), or rather the lack there of, rather than something about the statute of limitations. That said yeah they could definitely arrest him afterwards anyways it’s not like they have any precedent for that or ever made non-retroactive law a thing for themselves. I wouldn’t even say they’re wrong to do it in this case, but it does bring up the question if this is the exception or the rule. Based on the note from blackreach I’m leaning towards rule. Better not do anything that might be considered a crime in the future.
