Why are we nerfing high renown

again, for the THIRD TIME, no one signs up for it, but they are making it actively terrible to have in general, and most people turn off pvp because there is no reward to having it on, you can just duel anyway, and usually thats more fun, and you dont get anything for having renown, so theres no reason to have it, im not saying im super annoyed right NOW because i have high renown, im saying its stupid how renown is supposed to be a thing you go for, but it has NO reward and ALL risk

Then don’t have high renown bro. It’s not like anything locked for you beside vanity.

Its like doing crime and going to jail then goes ā€œOh mommy there is bad guys hereā€. You sign up for it. I mean PVP Toggle is a thing nowadays. Its not like you are forced to join PvP. If you want you can just go to Elysium or Munera, or Duel. I mean sure its kinda restricted but like. I don’t know.

im saying, they are doing things that make having high renown annoying, and im not saying oh yeah i hate renwon i have so much but i get punished for it, im saying, why are they makin the thing that is supposed to seem good, SO bad

Neither of these are true:

  1. when making a new file, PvP is always left off, you actually need to turn it on. The game also clarifies this when you turn PvP on, and nowhere in the game are you actively shown that there are rewards for having this other than the small vanity.
  2. You can get all the important rewards from clan vendors under the PvP limit of 250k; everything else is a cosmetic for putting yourself at risk. Everything else you listen either isn’t true anymore, or is also vanity that you don’t need to put yourself through.

You can just turn off PvP, and I don’t have to be reluctant to do so, but I shouldn’t need to turn off PvP to have fun in the game!

Don’t you think it’d benefit gankers too? To make their gameplay actually fuller!

PvP is left off unless you had an account that has 250k renown or if it was made before FR. every account is left with PvP off by default now.

also i think gankers enjoy ganking, so ruining ganking probably hurts their experience. I mean, they probably just get their friends on and engage in large gank battles and they partially enjoy that. You have other means of initiating combat if you need to anyways.

To make it fully clear to you, I leave global PvP on because I want global PvP. My problem is that AO’s global PvP is ASS.

I’ve made my stance very clear. Global PvP isn’t the problem, in fact it’s something I find very interesting. The problem is that people are encouraged to use it just to cheat their way to high renown due to design that is at this point intentional.

But like, there really isn’t a way to have universal PvP… and then limit how said ā€œuniversal PvPā€ is done— and i don’t think spawn-setting is a good step in that direction either.

I would probably make more efforts on making repeated ganks harder, and make renown gain/loss penalties when you hunt in parties… but theres only so many changes you do before said ā€œuniversal PvPā€ is just duels with less rules.

I HONESTLY think the ideal way to make global PvP is to make it not give any renown at all. Drachmas, sure, but not renown.
It wouldn’t kill ganking, but it would kill the benefit of it, make it a lot less harsh on those who fall victim to intentional game design.

I think players should be able to set their own reward for hunting them, so that you can only get hunted voluntarily, make it into a game, say ā€œMy hunt reward is a sunken sword, catch me if you can!ā€
That would be SO FUN.

would slightly kill the point of renown (as in this case, the number just bloats to infinity and theres no real way to change the status— it’d just be a board of who no-lifes AO the hardest), but other than that, this idea is slightly funny and is something i had thought of sometimes.

I think at that point you could just remove competitive renown altogether, since you remove the main thing it’s for. Keep it for like, the navy and roleplay and stuff, but only even show it in the bounty/fame menus, not the player list.
