The way you legally fight against something some shady company is doing is by boycotting it, which artist are already doing by not using. The only way forward is to make sure other people stop using it as well. “Pick up the pencil” is a call to action, it is meant to stick inside someone’s head so they’ll think about it every time they think of generating another image.
And if tech companies start using solar panels to run their AI business, well… That’s a win!
No tech company will see a product failing and think “hmmm i gotta sell this to the robots” so why would they automate production of ghibli style images if it’s not bringing money and attention anymore?

Yeah no this take doesn’t make sense, AI companies aren’t making AI art to “replace artists commissions” they are doing it cuz corporate companies fund them so in the future their designs can be powered by AI which would be faster and efficient in the long run
you are also pretending like for example Chat GPT which was what brought on the Ghibli trend is a paid service, cuz NO… no one paid chatgpt to make those images of them as it was entirely free.
This whole “Oh we are boycotting to they don’t get funded” is stupid cuz we aren’t paying them for AI art anyways.

The “Win” we need is for AI companies to not be able to access our art without payment or permission. anything else is either nonsense, advocating for violence (which is bad) or is something that isn’t discussed here yet
